2019 ALL AUSTRALIAN TEAM

Each to their own. His form over the last few years has him easily as the best KPB...imo. He had 2 average games last year and in both instances are midfield was getting beaten. Who would have thought ay?

B: James Sicily, Michael Hurley, Rory Laird
HB: Zac Williams, Alex Rance, Shannon Hurn (C)
C: Lachie Whitfield, Matt Crouch, Jackson Macrae
HF: Dustin Martin, Jack Darling, Isaac Heeney
F: Luke Breust, Tom McDonald, Jordan De Goey
Foll: Max Gawn, Patrick Dangerfield, Patrick Cripps
Bench: Clayton Oliver, Elliott Yeo, Marcus Bontempelli, Nat Fyfe

3x Melb, WC
2x Haw, Rich, GWS, Adel, Dogs
1x Syd, Geel, Carl, Esse, Frem, Coll

Sicily to play a full season. Hurley to return to his best. Laird and Rance just need to play near their best and are good enough. Williams to be given the responsibility of GWS rebounding which has a good AA record (Whitfield 2018, Shaw 2016-15), Hurn a safe as houses week by week player with strong leadership ability.

Whitfield progresses to the wing, where his skills and pace compliment the accumulation of Macrae well. Crouch elevates his game to be more of an impact player while being the best accumulator in the game in the absence of Mitchell, improving on his 2017 bench spot. Gawn ends up getting most of the year to himself and his contested marking wins him the ruck spot, with Dangerfield/Cripps being the two inside beasts for the year. Oliver/Yeo start the year slightly slow but win bench spots as dominant players and B&F in top 4 sides (my prediction for 2019), while Bont and Fyfe are also realistic picks.

McDonald my Coleman medal tip, while Darling might not kick as many goals but his around-the-ground contested marking has me thinking he could be the premier forward in the comp. Martin and Heeney average 25-26 disposals and around 1.5-2 goals a game (30-40) to get flank spots, while De Goey plays a full season and you'd think he's a good pick - so hard to match up on. Breust the premier small forward in the comp.

For my side, some surprises may be no Pies mids/Grundy (think there will be a far too even spread of statlines at the end of the year - but may see 3 or 4 in the squad!), no Riewoldt/Buddy/Brown/Hawkins (think the best up-the-ground forwards end up being selected as 65 is enough to win the Coleman), and a return to a 4 mid bench.

Will be interesting anyway to come back at the end of the season and review teams/predictions.

Don’t think it will be Merrett after packing two preseasons in a row. Not Bont and crouch whose only really just getting back to full fitness. Whereas Cripps has had two full preseasons in a row. Trimmed down and has Andrew Russell getting more out of him than ever.

M.Crouch is fine and the 2013 draft pick. Has been fully fit since mid last year.

B.Crouch is the one just getting back to full fitness.

Not sure if Bont can be counted as only just getting back to full fitness? Seems to have had a full pre-season and done the overseas training too.

I like it, but raise an eyebrow at Macrae in front of Josh Kelly. I just dont think Macrae is that good. It's an opinion thread though.

I don't particularly think he's as good as a system like Champion Data rates him, but he's still excellent.

Also, it's not just an opinion thread, it's a predictions thread - so even further removed. You are predicting Kelly to be better than Macrae in 2019, I'm predicting the other way around.

You’d pick the forwrds on who was the most successful and dangerous kicking goals, and the back half who would you trust with containing the most dangerous forwards.
Who out of this lot would’ve played on Eddie Betts?
Nearly every team has a specialised small forward but there’s not a specialised small defender in this team.

2017 team had

Hibberd Rance Mcgovern
Laird Hurley Docherty

Fwds
Gray Franklin Zorko
Danniher Kennedy Betts

Macrae is a jet and far more consistent than Kelly. As a result is a better player at this stage.

Was Macrae in the squad at least? The same could be said about Coniglio but if both of them have relatively injury free years and continue with the form from last year they should be there and I would say if Macrae hadnt missed the 3 games he may have made it

Jetta somehow doesn’t make it because every year they pick 3 guys who play unaccountable rebound footy it is ridiculous

Tom Jonas will have a really good season but maybe not quite good enough to make the final team but will be selected anyway. His selection will prompt some criticism from fans saying "player x" should have been selected instead while Port fans will vigorously defend his place in the team.

Ultimately the 50/50 call from the fickle selectors on whether Jonas or "player x" makes it will come down to the increased media profile of Jonas in his new position as co-captain.

Bump this in September.

The only one I would be certain of if he plays 22 games is Martin.

Rance has 5 in a row but would be hard to continually maintain that form for a sixth but had also be a strong contender.

Riewoldt was the best KPF of 2018 and if he maintains that level hel make it again.

One of Grimes, Astbury, Vlastuin could be a smokey but they aren't flashy enough, just ultra reliable.

Lynch, Edwards, Cotchin capable at their absolute best.

Bookmarked.. This will happen... there is no doubt.

Tarrant to claim a KPD spot. Should have had one by now. 3 very good years in a row

Ziebell to claim a hff spot
If Ziebell can go from a 35 goal forward to a 45 he is almost a lock imo.

Bloody good mid sized forward

B: Hurn, McGovern, Rance
HB: Laird, Hurley, Sicily
C: Whitfield, Cripps, Kelly
HF: Martin, Franklin, De Goey
F: Greene, Kennedy, Riewoldt
Foll: Gawn, Dangerfield, Oliver
Bench: Sidebottom, Yeo, Bontempelli, Fyfe
I like it a lot.

Not sure the AA selectors would care but ideally I think a small forward with real x factor and pace. Greene and De Goey are similar types to me. More medium power forwards, although De Goey is pretty quick. I get Betts seems to reaching the end if a stellar career. May if Ryan or even Stephenson have a great year?
