i'd be shocked if Reef is selected by the bombers with a top 10 pick.

If they use one of those 3 top 10 draft picks for needs then Reef is better than the other inside mid options around those picks. Plus, there is a genuine belief that Reef could be very damaging when going forward so don't be surprised

we always rate our academy players highly. From my understanding, Reef has speed however there is a big query on his tank. Who knows it could possibly be developed, however, I'm no expert but I have yet to see Reef rated close to the top 10. Many don't have him in the top 20. Could be wrong. But apart form the speed he showed during testing, why do you rate him much higher than most others rated in the top 15? I don't actually pretend to know becasue I don't follow it closely, but you obviously have a fair idea. So would be interested to know how good he is in comparison.

Tank would be 1 of the Easiest things to Develop

He does have explosive pace but more importantly from stoppages. Is still growing and could reach Key Position size. His forward craft is excellent and if he grows a couple more cm then he could easily become a Key Forward. His contested marking and ground ball ability are elite, he is the perfect prototype for a big bodied mid or KF.

I know it’s a bit of the unknown but I think it’s unlikely too. I think they are more of a chance to bid on Swans NGA Campbell in that suite of picks. I think the Giants at 13 or 15 are a chance though.

If it goes:

JUH - Dogs (bid match)
Logan Mac - Crows
Hollands - North
DGB - Swans
Thilthorpe - Hawks
Phillips - Suns
Campbell - Swans (Ess bid match)

Then from there I think the Dons would go with 2 mids Bruhn & Perkins (or even Fin Macrae) and one of Reid/Chapman/Henry as a KP type.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Is it? Remember there were concerns with Cam Raynor's tank and he still blows a gale playing in the forward line. They can't get him into the midfield.

Raynar still a Good Forward

I get it. My only concern is if the bombers are into Reef. That means we move up the order to match a bid for Reef. So we get Reef and another later first rounder and another pick for Callow or ? If we can. Rather than Reef and 2 20s picks and hold onto our futures.

I don't think the dons would be bidding, 3 top ten picks after losing Daniher, Saad and missing out on Dunks they need to nail their picks this year as much as we do. They'll play it safe, probably hope one of the fab 5 slips to them (I can see Gold Coast passing on one of the KP Prospects if they're there at 6) and then take two more highly regarded prospects like Bruhn and Perkins or a taller type like Reid/Chapman.

I think a lot will hinge on what happens on pick 2, Adelaide seem set on a KPF and if North follows suit I suspect the swans will take a mid and DGB will go to Hawthorn at 4, leaving Gold Coast to take the other of Phillips or Hollands.

Still it’s a risk. Dons could easily see him as a need. Therefore avoid the risk and trade back.

If a bid is placed on Reef at one of the dons picks can we trade out pick 14 straight away to 2 picks in the 20’s than use pick 16 to match? Melbourne’s 18 and 19 or the crows 22 and 23??

If we can use our future to land a kid before it would be preferable but I can’t see anyone trading out their picks before the dons bids.

After the trade disaster the club needs to be smart and expect the worst and be prepared.

Yes you can as Lions did it for Coleman last year

There’s a mock draft being run on one of the draft boards with BF members for each team placing bids. Some dope from the hawks bud on Rioli with their first pick which was matched by the Tigers bloke but other than that it seems realistic. Unfortunately the bombers selected Reef with first pick which the pies didn’t match. There were pick swaps and academy bids everywhere and the pies picks were already pushed back to late teens. Hopefully it’s not an omen!

Having said that we ended up with Perkins (before Macrae) and Reid. Perkins and Reid would be a solid enough duo I guess.

It's an insane looking mock already though and probably not all that realistic in the end.

Contested marking is elite, is that true

If Maurice Rioli Jr is being selected in the top 10 (and matched) it’s not in the same universe as what’s realistic.

Agree. But it highlights how fans from other teams are into Reef Cox and Ford. Think they may be bolters on the experts draft boards pretty soon.

I guess if a bid does come around there then we can easily match it if we also rate him. If not then we just go with picks 18 and 20.

What it does highlight though is we need to target GWS pick 10 which would potentially leave us with picks 12, 16-17 and 19-20.

We'll probably need that pick inside the first 12 (factoring in the early bids for JUH and Campbell) if we're to have a shot at grabbing one of the early KPP's on offer.
