Ford has copped a week for striking a Coburg player in the 3rd quarter in the VFL.

Right in front of Coburg members and they weren't happy.

Charlie Comben's gut punch was on the opposite flank so the Coburg supporters didn't see that one.

Hawk could face tribunal for chicken wing

Hawthorn prime mover Jai Newcombe will sweat on a match review decision over his chicken-wing tackle on North Melbourne’s Griffin Logue that could see him sent straight to the tribunal.

Newcome grabbed Roos defender Logue in a tackle with a teammate that pushed him to the ground. But Newcombe’s secondary action to drag Logue’s left arm up behind him was dangerous and unnecessary.

Newcombe could be assessed for general misconduct and handed a fixed financial sanction, which would be determined by the MRO at its “absolute discretion”.

But if MRO boss Michael Christian decided it was serious misconduct, he would be referred to the tribunal where they would judge his potential penalty.

Fremantle’s Sam Switkowski was handed a two-week ban by the tribunal last year for a chicken-wing tackle on Collingwood’s Jack Ginnivan graded as “intentional, unsportsmanlike and dangerous”.

“Given the two movements and the extent to which Ginnivan’s arm was forced upwards, it is surprising that no injury resulted,” Gleeson said about last May’s incident.

But Jack Riewoldt was handed only a $1500 fine for a chicken wing tackle on Melbourne’s Bayley Fritsch in 2019.

Logue was involved in his own incident which will be assessed by the MRO after running over the ball in a high bump on Hawthorn’s Will Day.

Logue attempted to contest the ball with his hands then appeared to decide he would instead rise up to bump Day.

As he bumped Day high, his feet collided with the ball so the MRO will have to decide whether he was genuinely contesting the ball.

The MRO has looked dimly on most bumps this year and would likely assess the hit as medium force given the capacity to cause injury if he decided Logue was not contesting the ball.

So while Logue will have to wait until Sunday night to see if he is available against Carlton, he could easily be hit with a medium-impact, careless rough conduct charge which sees him miss a week.

If the MRO decided he was genuinely contesting the ball he would have no case to answer.

2 weeks for Newcombe would be about right.

Only thing you could argue is medium impact to low impact considering Day never reacted in anyway to the contact.

Don’t like our chances though.
adelaide had that specialist or whatever in, should have a go
