Well, here we are again.

This week’s clash against Collingwood might just be the biggest match we’ve played … well since we faced the Magpies in round 23 last year.

On a five-match winning streak, breaking records and seemingly playing with confidence and purpose - Collingwood are the hottest flag favourite at this point of the season since Richmond in 2018 (yes they lost the PF that year!).

Of course I could replicate the first part of the previous sentence and it would be an accurate description of our mighty Blues.

After a most depressing series of losses through the second quarter of the season, a magic potion seemingly invaded the club at quarter time of the round 14 game against the Suns at the MCG.

Weight lifted, monkey banished from our backs, tears dried … Carlton suddenly became a pressure-wielding, smooth moving, goal kicking machine.

This week however is the ultimate litmus test.

First request: can we please, please, please have a plan to keep the ball away from Darcy Moore?

He’s central to everything that is great about this Collingwood team - providing the confidence for other defenders to cheat, sag off and destroy opposition teams on the turnover.

Whatever plan we had earlier this year, it simply didn’t work. It was almost as if Moore was wearing a Carlton guernsey.

It felt like in the game against Port we had a plan to engage Allir Allir to keep him accountable - he plays a similar role so maybe we’ve learned a lesson?

Our vastly improved run and speed through the middle of the ground and increased emphasis on creating turnovers means the Pies will have less time to set up down back.

If so, the Pies will give us plenty of opportunities. Our forward mix has been working incredibly well and improved accuracy (due to return of highly skilled players such as Martin and Cuningham?) has provided the nourish … um the reward for effort we so sadly lacked earlier in the season. McKay being out maybe even adds to our unpredictability (positive thinking req).

Curnow is a superstar and just as we focus attention on Moore so will they on Charlie.

We should break even in the ruck with TDK and JSOS in career defining form and let our midfield go to work. Cez, Crippa, Hewett are more than a match for De Geoy, Pendlebury and Adams/Mitchell.

Of course, that excludes Nick Daicos who is about to become the youngest Brownlow Medallist since Judd in 2004. Don’t think we will tag - hopefully we can control the stoppages to reduce his access to the pill.

Loving the work of our backs - led by Weiters and Newman. The latter might get Elliott with McCreery/Saad and McStay/Kemp looking likely matchups.

Expecting a couple of changes to the team - Cripps, Martin and Cerra to come back in … no doubt that will provoke another week of Dow chatter.

The MCG. Friday night. A sellout. Finals on the horizon again. Embrace it Blues. Time to turn the footy world upside down.

Given the injuries and players struggling

Cripps - Dow
Cerra - Walsh
Martin - Mots
Young/Pitto - Jsos

Honey lucky but might get replaced by Fisher

Kemp also lucky, considering his extremities

Marchbank or S Durdin will be considered for Cowan

Can't believe we could have 6 changes, not great going into a game against the Pies

Why is Kemp lucky??? Baffling

Really hard to guess without knowing the extent of our injuries. Walsh looks a definate out. Cripps and Cerra based on reports should come back. Martin, SOS, Motlop hopefully just precautionary.

B: Newman Weitering McGovern
HB: Cincotta Kemp Saad
C: Acres Cripps Hollands
HF: Cunningham Silvagni Motlop
F: Martin Curnow TDK
OB: Pittonett Cerra Docherty
IC: Hewett Cowan Fogarty Cottrell
Sub: Dow

Out: Dow (sub) Walsh Curnow Honey
In: Cripps Cerra Martin Pittonett

Doch to midfield to replace Walsh with Hollands replacing him on a wing. If Motlop is out replace with Honey. If one of Martin or JSOS don't play replace with Ed and go small. If both are out pray.

There's no way anyone can say with a straight face he deserves another game. Park dow or Ed up there instead. Anyone.
Kemp also lucky, considering his extremities
Nah. Not lucky. Voss is publically preaching trying to get games and stability into each line. Kemp's cemented.

Although he’s the better ruckman of the options, Pitto offers nothing elsewhere. Would almost prefer playing a second makeshift ruckman to complement TDK of JSOS misses and keep us versatile elsewhere
If we can win it out of stoppages more with Pitto & not turn it over to a roaming Moore, then there could be an advantage there.

Also TDK as the 2nd KPF.

I'm not risking anyone for this game if they're not right. This is a free hit at the pies, were playing well and a chance but we need to ensure we have our best for the more winnable games against the likes of saints, dees, gold coast and GWS

Cripps will be fine but if cerra isn't quite right, don't select him. Same with owies, Motlop, silvagni and wash.

About 10-12 you’d drop before Kemp. Wouldn’t even be in the convo to be dropped with the MC.
Nah, that's what supporters sprouted last time he was dropped. Let's call it honestly

For now he stays

Was talking about Honey, Dow as a forward, is really pointless

Completely agree, but we can still be honest about his inconsistency

Fisher: stays out for mine, our recent resurgence has been on the back of an intensity that seems beyond him. Unless they have elite attributes elsewhere, I'm hesitant to bring players with a questionable appetite for the opponent/ball. (I might be a little harsh on this one)

Kemp: I see this both ways. He's quite raw & has a few errors in him atm but we do seem a more cohesive unit with him back there. I don't see Young or Marchbank as better options, unless there's something specific the coaches want him to go back & work on.
