In looking at Brisbanes rise to a GF I wanted to see how they got there and if there are any lessons for us

I wanted to post this before any result from this afternoon.

Plus I couldnt be stuffed watching the game

1st Thoughts is how surprised I was at Brisbanes list and Grand Final side. It seems to me they have been all in for a few years and struggled to get the chocolates

A few things - I chose 2017 as the starting point as that was when Fagan took over from Leppitch. I did not include 2016 Draft figures

I have chosen the GF side to see how the side was built

( and I may have missed somebody )

Breakdown of list stats

Games Played

200+ 5
150+ 7
100+ 8

50+ 6
0-49 19 ( 5 with no games)

A lot of experience on their list

You can see the inverse difference of our side - that hole between 100 and 200 really hurts us

200+ 4
150+ 0
100+ 5
(includes Seedsman and RoB who played 100 round 23)
50+ 10 (including McAdam on 50 who may leave)
0-49 25 ( 4 with no games )

My initial analysis is we are still a long way off

Or

Brisbane underachieved

Fagans Record (apologies for Table )

From 2014 Leppitch finished with 7,4 and 3 wins but notice the reset didnt take that long - 2 years with 5 wins then a HUGE jump to 16 wins

Either way in a 10 year period it was 5 years , 2 coaches to make the 8 again where they have stayed

Should we ask more of Nicks by expecting a top 8 finish or are we better off expecting more pain as our players gain experience?

Its a side set up for now - yet their backline , while full of experience , still has at least 4-6 years together

Actually they look in pretty good stead for anothe 3 years up top

Adelaide have decisions over 3 of the 4 200+ players at the end of 2024 - again leaving a big hole or we enter 2025 with zimmer frames and gophers

Every rebuild and list opportunity is different
But every rebuild and list opportunity has similar metrics

Games experience
Trade selection and
Drafting high picks

Your Intel on both must be at 65%

Development pathways - which includes total football philosophy
