Sav has been by far the only functional tall forward for us this year. He has kicked a fair few goals when the ball has been delivered quickly to him. He does not get huge bags of goals on very good defenders but tends to maul young or mediocre defenders.

He didn't have a fantastic game last week but lead all day and worked hard to give the crumbers plenty of opportunities which is all you can really ask other than kicking as many goals as possible.

Petrie has been disappointing this year, played a bit better last week against Hawthorn but they were very ordinary.

It's not gonna' matter because the Roos will win this comfortably, but...

Likely Changes...

In-Welsh, Bode, Hart (from injury), Hudson, Smith
Out-Biglands (Suspended), Watts, Massie, Shirley, Gallagher

F Bode, Welsh, Jericho
HF Edwards, S.Stevens, Johncock
C Goodwin, Ricciuto, Ladhams
HB Reilly, McGregor, Hart
B Mattner, Rutten, Bassett
R Clarke, Stenglein, McLeod
I Hudson, Bock, Skipworth, Smith

Would be surprised if they picked Perrie. The Crows seem to have already made up their minds on him. Watts needs a run with the Eagles & hopefully Massie, Shirley & Gags have played their last games for us (all mediocre AFL footballers). Begley should come back through Sturt.

Any chance Parker could be elevated this week or at least before the end of the season so the club could have a close look at him under AFL conditions ??

Stiffy, I am one who thought Perrie should have played last week, particularly when we lost Welsh. There are a few reasons why:
- The make-up of our forward line last week was just too inexperienced. It was literally sending the lambs to the slaughter. To replace our main forward with Ladhams was non-sensical.
- We had no foward line flexibility at all. We ended up sending our best defender forward to give us a target and take some of the heat off of the youngsters - far better to have played Perrie who could have done that. When Perrie has had to stand up as our only forward he has played some useful games (admittedly not this year).
- I'm not sure that youngsers get much out of a game like Brisbane except a massive dent in their confidence. Do you really think that Fergus Watts benefited from Saturday night - I don't. He is a very important player to our future and to expose him like that on Saturday night gained nothing.

You have to ask - why take Perrie to Brisbane if he is no chance of ever playing again (as you believe the AFC have determined)?

I'm also not so sure that Perrie is a dead loss at AFL level. He may never be a star but he will continually present and put his body on the line. If we don't give him another opportunity now that Carey has retired and Stevens is again injured we will never know. Even if he is going to be delisted, why not try and get something for him as a trade. Not getting a game when we literally have no other experienced tall forwards is hardly a selling point.

Does anybody think we can recover and beat the Roos on Friday night??

I hope not!

Sorry - still think a few weeks more pain is worth it for the extra pick ...

To all those people that are questioning the selection policy and wants Perrie included,

Isn't it obvious that AFC don't see him as part of the squad next year?????? Since this is the case why would you play him ahead of someone who the club sees as a member of the squad next year??????

Trade value. Showcase him, so he doesn't seem such a dead loss. Then we might get some value at season's end.

Might help us win a game too, as IMO he is our best available CHF.

Firstly one game at the GABBA would have no bearing on Perrie's trade value. Clubs are not that stupid.

Watts is one bloke who doesn't lack confidence. He would have learned something against Brisbane. He would have lenrd how much he has to go before becoming a good AFL player. Now he knows whats required. He would have leanred just how tough it is to get a kick on a good defender.

Perrie was taken up there as one of the emergencies. North had a bye and all 3 emergencies were roosters. We could also argue why did we take Hudson up there if we weren't going to play him??????

Personally, I think playing Perrie os pointless as he is unlikely to play for us next year. Its better for a kid to get a game than a player who will not be there next year.

Again I say that one game or the rest of the year for that matter will not increase Perrie's trade value. With the recruiting networks the clubs have these days, they know more about Perrie than we supporters do. Do you think clubs are that stupid to base their decisions on recruiting a player on a couple of games??????

Of course not. Anything Perrie does this year will not hugely impact on his trade value. He is a tall, but a very limited one who is no longer young.

Bulldog's were silly in trades last year. Clubs will give up a good pick or a kid they can't get the best out of for a tall who will fill a hole, no matter his form.

Perrie for Jordan McMahon would not suprise me at all.

Everyone is overlooking the fact that Perrie usually has his best games against us too ;)

Hudson is irrelevant to the point. We took 3 players up there that covered 3 different types of roles. My issue is that we lost a key forward and replaced him with a midfielder when we had probably the most inexperienced forward line we have ever had.
You also didn't answer why we took Perrie if he is never going to play again - doesn't make sense does it.

Its not the first time we have taken 3 emergencies up to Brisbane if their team has a bye. We only had Smith anf Krueger play in SANFL over the weekend. None of those blokes were going to make the team for a particular reason.

The fact that Perrie travelled with the team and still didn't get a game tells you something.. He is not is plans of AFC for next year and as such will not get selected. He was selected as an emergency to make up the numbers and was taken to Brisbane quite possibly to be used for some game playing with selections. Everyone expected him to be selected. Everyone except AFC and that tells us something.

Spot on. Perrie's trade value will not increase in a couple of AFL games. He will still have some trade value come the end of the year and the types of trades that you suggested probably are around the mark.

g'day all

We have got to play the kids....perrie has had his chances, im not exactly sure how long he has been on the list but he has had his chances. A couple of good games a year is not good enough.
Fergus Watts, although not getting too many kicks, he is making a contest and its what we need at CHF, give him time, he has got to learn his trade and then over the pre season get stuck into the weights.
We also need a bloke like Josh Krueger out there, all though i have not seen much of him, from what i heard he is a versatile ruckmen/forward who can take a grab!!!!
Ladhams is another bloke who has had his chance and hasnt done much with it....Shirley, dont even get me started on!

Yes I think the club may well have already decided on Perries future.
Depends on the clubs agenda, but playing Watts & Co at this stage of the season is more valuable in terms of experience than any benefit derived from playing Perrie.

If Perrie doesn't get traded he knows he will have to work his backside off to get a game next season. Could be the best thing for him and us.

Perrie and 1st round draft pick (likely to be pick 7) for Cooney would be OK.
The Bulldogs need some strong KPP.

They have a fine one in Jade Rawlings, who can present and take a contested mark as good as anyone. The mongrel simply needs to learn how to kick!

30.28 from 17 games could've been so much better if he could only get his accuracy up to as low as 65-70%

The point was well made on "on the couch" last night that at Hawthorn he took the 3rd best defender, he's currently taking the best defender and can't cope.
(so much for trading 2 draft picks and a 4 year $400K per year contract for a periphial KPP:rolleyes: )

Perrie would make a good foil and can play FF and CHF. Also Grant may not go on next year, even if he does he's half the player he used to be.

Eh?

Last year at the Hawks he kicked 34.32 in 22 games

At the Western Bulldogs so far this season he's kicked 30.28 in 17 games.

Can't cope? He's statistically having as good a season, if not better, in a side that is struggling worse (14th, 4-13) than last year's Hawks (9th, 12-10).

Dave, Rawlings made his name as a defender not forwrd.
Was forced to play as a forwrd by neccessity not by plan (due to kicking deficiencies)

27 years of age - 116 games - 62 goals?
Not the stats of a top range player/forwrd IMO.

Last year Hawtorn had Thompson, Holland and at various stages Barker and Everitt, so Rawlings was taking the 3rd best defender;)

30 goals from your key forward may explain why the Bulldogs are 14th;)

Last year was a better result as he wasn't the #1 target at Hawthorn (see other post)

We'll just have to agree to disagree on Rawlings' ability or worth, but as far as On The Couch goes, I enjoy the show, however it must be remembered that when discussing KPPs Gerard Healy believes Jonathan Brown should be considered for AA CHF this year ;)

Pretty good team, but isn't Bode still injured with his ankle?

Watts needs a rest but I don't think there is anyone to replace him (except Perrie). Therefore I believe Massie will stay. Just.

Yeah, Bode still to miss & Watts may not play due to injury any way.

Sounds like Welsh & Hart are near certainties to return.
