Why are people saying bring in Jones? He needs to put in several weeks of similar efforts/results to what he had today in the SANFL to be considered. Bringing him in to the AFL side, needs to be considered in the light of, what he goes back to having several weeks of five possessions. He gets dropped again? How many times can someone be dropped before his confidence is totally shot. Same applies to Fogarty.

I'm not sure if all the people calling for Newchurch have seen him every week or just watch the highlights.

Absolutely has the tools to be a dangerous player, but he goes missing for huge chunks of the game and I'm not sure he's 100% mentally in the game 100% of the time.

Forwards by nature go missing for huge chunks. Tex has done it for 5 of our last 6 quarters after 1/4 time and he gets a shit truck of ball directed his way. And he's got 250 games of experience that ups his performance as well. You've just got to assess these guys based upon what they do when they're near the ball. Even Nicks implied our forwards consistently went to the wrong spot. And that's our 1s.

Or... it's because we've got two players spudding it up in our forward line and Newchurch is a natural replacement for.

Really, giving Newchurch a game, and punting McAdam to the SANFL is right now a better result then just hoping McAdam just works it out. We need McAdam to be good, and to get him back, he quite likely needs the same treatment it took for Matt to get back to his best.

Same as Thilthorpe. Need 2 months of outstanding SANFL form. Thilly still owes us 7 weeks, I hope we send him back to complete the block.

Rowie is the total plodder that needs to go. McAdam is a talent that is either injured or out of form. But his issues are not terminal, Rowe's are. A finished product that peaks at 4/10, seeya.

I just suspect McAdam has got ahead of himself. It wouldn't be difficult, a meteoric rise, ended up one of Adelaide's most important players last year, and won mark of the year which got him a bit of clout. Whilst they've taken different paths to get to this state, it's likely a repeat of Matt Crouch last year, he's got comfortable and is just going through the motions expecting it to happen.

Rowie is likely a plodder at this point, but I'm not as rushed with dropping him at the moment. It might happen if Newchurch steps up with the level, otherwise, it's probably just a case of he gets games until Dudley comes on the list, or Pedlar is fit enough.

5 more wins for a pass?

I'm not sure we want 8 wins. It takes us into pick 6+ range, and I think that's an issue.

If we're competitive most weeks, I'm very happy with a six win year.
Yeah
You’re right
Ok
I’ll settle for 6 wins and 2 losses under a goal āœ…

^ Dumb logic. Thilthorpe has earned his AFL spot by performing in the AFL. Jones was been gifted gold passes and failed to deliver at AFL level.

Why did we draft him if we won’t play him

Fog is perfect for SANFL conditions, where the players aren't as fast as they are in the AFL.
Your continual hate of Fogarty is making you look ridiculous...

I would play Tex, Himm and Murray forward with Murphy, newchurch and Jones. Gives us speed, lead up options and a decent contested grab in Murray. Then bring in a Warrell or fish to go back.
We have tried Jones forward and they are not going to change his role again after moving him to HB 2 weeks ago... We need to settle the lad down in a position

Murray not a permanent forward for me, it's time we just play our most talented players in the key forward positions, that is Tex, RT and Fog, with Himmelberg adding selection pressure

Why did we draft him if we won’t play him

We've given him 23 games at this point. The big issue here is Jones just didn't take at all to where we drafted him for, and for whatever reason, we just broke him (to the point he dished up a 2 disposal game against the Pies, and looked genuinely so overwhelmed he wanted to break down in the huddle). The game against Sturt is promising signs that a move to half back might be the key to making an AFL player out of Chayce, but we certainly shouldn't rush him in. He's not long off a 5 disposal game.

1) Look, it's really easy to make lots of changes after a belting, 2) what is the stronger move is making no unforced changes. Unless a tier 1 type is returning from injury.
3) My money is on no unforced changes, be strong by backing in the group. Unless Sloane returns.
3) it's not clear whether you bet that will happen or if you want it to happen. Backing in a group that got belted by 67 points would be rewarding poor performances; makes no sense to me.
McAdam and Rowe have had 3 poor games in 3 losses --- time to try 2 new small forwards and see what they can do.
I'd drop Himmelberg too, yes, so soon because he was no better than Frampton. Keep Thilthorpe and play Murray forward or bring back Fogarty.
2) NO unforced changes after 2 close losses then a hiding is lazy coaching/selecting; not "strong" at all. It's bordering on madness to play McAdam and Rowe again after 3 poor games each. Change the mix, try new players, experiment, and keep doing that until you find the players who can rise to AFL speed and pressure.
1) It's not "really easy", as if to say it's flippant or unnecessary. It's necessary, in this rebuilding time. They have to make changes after such a bad loss, see who's got the goods after being selected (eg Sholl/ Schoenberg/ Thilthorpe certainly do), drop those who do not perform after their chance/s (Frampton finally, now McAdam and Rowe).
Can Worrell/Newchurch/O'Connor play AFL footy? They won't know until they pick them.
Worrell had another decent game, O'Connor 20 touches and 10 tackles  (McAdam and Rowe currently create a tackle-free zone for oppo defenders), great, give'em both a go! Jones had 20 disposals and all three might just inject some life into the AFL team.
Whatever changes are made, the selectors must boost our mids to feed Tex, Fog or Murray, and Thilthorpe, and get more from the small forwards.
(P.S. have a look at Marini's *wonderful* goal in the last quarter; was Betts-like, showing speed, balance, evasion and goal sense. I'll watch his progress with great interest)

I don't hate him. He frustrates the hell out of me - so much talent & potential, so much fapping about him on BF, so little actual achievement on the field. I desperately want him to succeed - but he keeps on letting us down, time & time & time again.

When we select him as a forward, he doesn't get involved enough, rarely cracks double digit disposals, and is a complete liability when the opposition get their hands on the ball. He's too short to play as a KPP, and too slow & immobile to play as a small/medium forward. When we play him as a midfielder, his lack of mobility/speed/agility is exposed, and he's only marginally more effective than a witches hat. He can get away with his lack of mobility/speed/agility in the SANFL, but it gets exposed every time in the AFL.

If he was capable of sustaining the work rate that Himmelberg did yesterday, getting to as many contests as Berg did, then Fogarty would be a player. History tells us that he doesn't - he either can't, or won't. My money is on "can't".

I think there's a really good AFL player inside of him, but we're probably never going to see it because of the excess baggage he's carrying - and it's genetic, so it's going to be really hard for him to shift. I just don't see a future for him at AFL level until/unless he loses the excess muscle bulk, unleashing the talented player inside. If he could lose the weight, then he'd be faster & more agile, and able to get to more contests. Then we'd see what he's really capable of, and I have no doubt that he'd have a future at AFL level... but that's a huge IF.

What really annoys me is the constant fapping by his fanbois here, despite the fact that he's consistently done SFA every time he's been selected, which is why he's been in & out of the team like a yoyo. He comes in because they can see his talent, does SFA because his body shape is inherently unsuited to AFL football, and is dropped as a result. Rinse & repeat... yet his fanbois persist in viewing him through rose coloured blinkers, as if he was actually performing (when he hasn't). He is massively overrated, given how little he has actually achieved - and yes, I do push back against that, maybe too hard.

Wow...... just laughable how quickly people write off a 20 year old if he doesn't dominate early in his career
Are you trying to tell me that he wouldn't lose a foot race with a tortoise?

OK... I'm exaggerating slightly. Seriously though, his lack of speed/agility/mobility is constantly exposed at AFL level. That's why he's never had more than 12 disposals in 27 AFL games, and has failed to reach double digits in 20 of his 27 games. He just can't get near it, because he's too heavy, which makes him too slow & immobile.

He was a raw talent at u18 level and has had 1 year on a main list and is adjusting to SANFL. Realistically if he keeps improving his workrate he is a late next year prospect in my mind. He is very much a project player that if the club can hone him and get him up to AFL fitness he might become a good x factor player for us in the longer term. His trick will be to keep.improving enough to warrant that spot on the list
