Fogarty's SANFL performance is being underrated.

He was the unused sub on Saturday, which is very difficult and mentally draining what with the constant warming up/warming down and not knowing if you're going to get a run. It's more taxing than playing an AFL game I'm reliably told.

So he effectively played 2.5 games on the weekend and was reasonable in the back half of his second game and first half of his third. Needs to be rewarded.

Not sure how true it is, but a mate told me this afternoon that Russell Ebert has been sent home from hospital and has only days left.
Hope it isn't true. Not only is he one of the all time great players, he's also one of the great humans. Just an incredible person.

Bloody hope not, didn’t know he was having treatment in hospital

Except for 2019 when we just didn't play him all season, then we did right at the end and he was great.
Didn't he come back in poor condition after the Covid break? That'd explain why it took a while for him to get an AFL game.
His preparation/ fitness/ weight are all his responsibility, to earn that healthy six-figure salary. Applies to all players.

Tex came back from the Covid break looking like he'd spent it at Donut King, but that didn't stop him getting picked.

I do actually, maybe not this week but certainly next

Given we're rebuilding and Rowe has been total crap, would losing 15% of Rowe's performance level really matter? He might go better, Rowe gets to build confidence in the 2s and Newchurch gets a couple to see what it's about. There's just nothing to lose, swapping Newchurch for Rowe won't be the difference between finals or not it even winning or not. Or even 1 or 2 goals.

They ain't looking like those players at the moment. And that's okay, lets test some others in the meantine whilst Rowe gets some AFL fitness and defensive application and Mcadam stops playing injured.
Rowe is a Ken Farmer Medal winner, McAdam made the SANFL team of the year.

They were well in advance of Newchurch then..... And still are now.

He was picked immediately after the covid break.

Then we decided that not being a gun in a 2020 forward line where our leading goal kicker kicked like 15 goals and where we had the worst midfield in history meant that he had no forward line future.

Quality decision making.

Grigg and Knight also dominated at SANFL level after they were delisted by us. Dominating at SANFL level means little if it can't be replicated in the AFL. The better prospects often are average in the SANFL and rise to the occasion in the AFL where it matters. Rowe is an SANFL standard player. My advice is to leave him where he is most effective. May help us win some games in the SANFL and facilitate the development of other players in the process. James will have a short career at afl level like his father.

Murray talking sense, colour me shocked

Newchurch would only have to add a frantic pressure on opposition defenders and it would be worth while having him.

Unfortunately, Newchurch is not a pressure player. Which is astounding given his speed. He floats around. Dangerous only when ball in hand and has a paddock in front of him. That would translate to very little value in an AFL game. The kid needs to find a harder edge.

Anybody heard anything more on this?

Be interesting to see how Port approach the matchups defensively. Himmelberg probably should be out, but given the Port defence, I reckon he should stay.

All the talk seems to be Aliir to Tex, which is interesting. He's who I fear the most - can singlehandedly destroy our F50 entries if allowed to roam. And Tex won't have the defensive game to prevent him from zoning off at all (nor I suspect the selflessness/discipline to take Aliir as far away from the setup as possible - as I imagine Todd Marshall will probably do to Doedee if we send him to Todd). But if isolated Tex could get on top of him. It's tough - it could be one of those matchups where Tex kicks three but Aliir has 20 & 10 marks.

If Aliir goes to Tex it's giving Riley and Elliott matchups on blokes 3-4 inches shorter than them. They've got to capitalise on that. If Himmelberg goes out, we lose that potential advantage.

Defensive pressure is going to be so important and Rowe/McAdam just aren't offering enough of that. Rowe strikes me as the kind of operator who'll get so up and about for a 'big game' - and probably deserves one last chance to do that. If he has another stinker it's gotta be a spell in the 2s.

Whoever gets the Hartlett matchup (assuming Ken remains the same little bitch at selection he always has been, and picks the crab) needs to burn the hell out of him. Absolute liability.

In: Sloane, Hamill
Out: McAdam, McPherson
