Why you would play Mackay over Worell is mind boggling. Butts, Doedee, Worrell on Georgiades, Marshall, Dixon is a smarter option. This then releases Doedee to play as more of a third tall rebounder. Worrell gives you the same rebound as Mackay but with someone who can actually kick well.

Why you would play Mackay over Worell is mind boggling.

Mackay - 233 games of AFL

Worrell - 0 games of AFL

There's an identifiable criteria, don't agree with it, but it's there.

There's been a clear preference to go small in defence this year. Why I have no idea, but it's there and its cost Murray both times we've brought him in.
Hately hasn't added much to a midfield that has been getting smashed and they've given preference to experience (Sloane). Berry brings better pressure, even if he found less of it.

So why did we drop McAdam?

With his athleticism and speed he should be one that can impact a game, even if it's just defensively. He hasn't done that at all. Didn't seem particularly interested a few times last week in chasing and that's one thing he had improved a great deal since he was brought over.

Coaches are responsible for developing players and ours are regressing.

Himmelberg showed in a COVID year where Dixon and DBJ were All Australians that he could play half a dozen decent games. McPherson is horrifically out of form which all players go through, and McAdam is clearly carrying something.

When will you actually place any onus on the players, or will you continue to take cheap shots at a new coaching staff.

Yes he has underperformed. That alone doesn't explain why he specifically got the chop while Rowe survives.

And that's my problem with these selections. There is no clear strategy at all. Some players are in the "favorites" group, and take a lot to remove them. Others get dropped on a hair trigger. Some players get a huge block of games. Others get one game then dropped. One week we're going tall in defense. Another week it's small. Some weeks we make like-for-like changes, other weeks it's random.

The lack of a clear strategy for developing players is a concern in a supposed "development" year

So we'll be able to keep Jones off the park for a fortnight so that he runs cold. D Mac has got that spot wrapped up.

What are the coaches responsible for if not the players they coach?

Sometimes you get players who just aren't good enough and there's nothing a coach can do.

But these are three young players who have demonstrated that they ARE good enough. Add another preseason, now with a bit of experienced under the belt

.... and backwards they go.

Talented players going backwards is rebuild fail 101. It's how Carlton and Melbourne did what they did for so long.
