Out: Darcy, JOM
In: Walters, Brodie

FB: Young, Pearce, Walker
HB: Ryan, Cox, Clark
C: Driz, Serong, Aish
HF: Frederick, Treacy, Banfield
FF: Switkowski, Amiss, Schultz
F: Jackson, Brayshaw, Fyfe

I/C: Johnson, Hughes, Walters, Brodie
Sub: Erasmus/Sturt

Possibly Sturt as sub. I don't believe we will bring in a tall. No need. Would like to see how Jacko and JT get on first, which I think they will do fine.
Feel like Erasmus could be the one to come in but as others have mentioned Brodie is probably the wiser move. Erasmus sub gives that move a bit more flexibility.

I like it, torn on the sub, think Brodie actually works better as the Sub as he’s that high impact player, we could take out which ever is more spent of Fyfe, Ras or Johnson.

Wouldn't mind Reidy getting a debut given our forward structure has looked so damn good. Keep that structure and make it like for like with the talls. Not sure who comes out for Walters but Brodie should come in for JOM
I, too, like the idea of keeping the structure, but is Reidy ready to compete against those Richmond rucks?

Why did we recruit Reidy and Knobel if we were just going to improvise with Treacy, if a ruckman went down. Why bother having two back ups? I thought Reidy was recruited for this exact scenario, so we didnt have to take Tabs or Treacy out of the forwardline if one of the two main rucks went down.
Injuries intra match - then sure, JT into the ruck.
Its important we dont burn out Jackson who is nt very tall and relies on leap, effort and agility.

Reidy seemed to have some issues with injury late in the pre-season and missed first few WAFL games. He starting to fund some continuity but for mine not quite ready yet. Regardless of why they recruited you select the best team to win game. I believe Treacy who played quite a bit of ruck at Peel particularly prior to Reidy playing is best equipped at this very moment to support Jackson. Reidy is building but just not impacting ruck contests and around the ground to make me feel he is an option as yet. As for Knobel he is a developing ruckman that I’m sure we won’t see for many years at AFL. He has played 1 WAFL league game and went ok but the remainder in reserves and I think must be out this weekend with injury or illness.

This weekend will decide how we structure up. Whether we add another medium tall type (Sturt, Corbett), play Fyfe more forward and run with Walters and midfielders (Brodie, Erasmus) or we give Reidy a go.

If he has a standout game the timing couldn’t be better. I’ll decide after the game but on what I’ve seen so far he would be the third of the options.

Brodie straight in for JOM.
Erasmus and MJ in the midfield is too raw. Fyfe isn’t 100% so having Brodie would help that.

Would imagine Brodie won’t play this week for Peel

Based upon last weekends Peel game I was definitely expecting Brodie to play for Peel again this weekend (he is selected for Peel as is Erasmus, Sturt and Worner) as he was well off the pace. Not saying that Brodie definitely won't play for Freo next week with JOM out but he was well off the mark in the game against West Perth. Hopefully he can put in a better effort today against Claremont.

It would also not surprise me if Worner or Henry put themselves in contention for the spot made available by the O'Meara suspension if they have good games today.

There is a reason why Freo took three ruckman in the same draft/trade period.

Knobel is miles off playing.

Reidy is to here to play when neither Jackson or Darcy are available.

People keep saying this but I don't think it's true. He's a project player as well. He had played a grand total of 17 league games when drafted and was still playing suburban footy when he was 20.

My point was more that he wouldn't play unless both were unavailable. I don't know if he is a project player but if he is, then that would reinforce my statement. They won't throw him in unless they have to.

I think the answer was only if they were both unavailable. I suppose they had figured they can't cover every eventuality and it's no so simple to entice a more experienced backup without definitively being in the window. Particularly when they know they are third in line.

Wait I read the 'neither' you said before as 'either'. Which is how I end up replying with a different version of the same thing you had written.

A lot is being made of Brodie playing forward for Peel a bit last week

You're all looking at it wrong IMO, we are trying to add another string to his bow, JOM has come in and plays a set amount of time forward too

Peel have been flipping players a lot more, the club made a concious decision in about round 3 or 4 of the WAFL (5/6 AFL) to blood players in new positions, under JL we had been more of a "play your specific role" type of team but we are changing it up a bit. For example, Sturt has been up the ground more in WAFL, Emmett has been playing in the centre bounces, Henry has been taking centre bounces.

None of those had been happening over the past couple of years

My guess for next week

In Walters for Darcy (Sturt in if Walters isn't ready)
In Ras for JOM (Possibly Brodie instead, this is kind of a 50/50)

Sub Brodie/Ras/Sturt this all depends on who is picked, may also depend on tomorrows WAFL game

Please no to Henry

100 % correct as under new peel coach Valentine we are more likely to try something different to develop a player (a direction from Freo who knows ?)
Would like to see Wagner moved to the wing now he is getting his confidence up

I reckon you guys will dearly miss O’meara in a game that could go either way next week.

Just a shocking out for a bloke that’s been super impressive in your renaissance.

He was absolutely brilliant against Melbourne. Just a fantastic performance.

By the way, congratulations on your win over us. The better team won on the day and you well and truly deserved the 4 points. If we meet in an MCG elimination final (say 6 v 7) I’d say you’d beat us again.

Let's be honest you guys were missing a very good midfielder on the day.

Having said that, Freo had a few injuries on the day to deal with.

Both teams seem evenly matched
