As every post normally is this is just some of my random thoughts and opinions of mine from the game and how it will play out with the derby.

-Treacy did not get beaten in any of the contests he was in, never out-marked or manoeuvred, applied pressure when the ball hit the deck and finally he always had the attention of a defender. He MUST stay in! Just like when we had no tall forwards we sent Darcy down into the forward line, his main goal was just to bring the ball to ground, it wasn't to kick bags as we knew that would a bit of an ask, so just compete and we were happy. Can we please apply that to Treacy? The opportunities will come for him and watching him lay Ziebell out was exactly what I want to see him doing to Hurn and Shephard and any other idiot who wants to stand in the hole.

-Our pressure and retention of the ball in our forward 50 was average and I suspect it was one of the things JLo was not happy with, they walked it out of their backline and through the centre a few too many times and we were lucky it was North and they couldn't punish us. That does point to dropping a tall but it wasn't happening all game so I think the balance was there in the team, just some players weren't putting in 100% in their role. I would almost be shuffling the cards a little as I think Freddy's pressure and tackling was off and Crowden could do it a bit better with a bit more goal sense. So Crowden less time in the middle and more filing through the forward line more with Freddy pushing up the wings in the rotations with Aish going inside more often.

-Cox out and Kennedy coming back in is a bit of a nightmare as we lose a great aerial interceptor. Logue to Kennedy as the big match-up, Hughes to Darling as he has done many times serviceably and I think Luke Ryan will have to go to Allen. Potential for Ryan to swap with Hughes if the match ups aren't working. Conca to Cripps and Chapman to play the interceptor (which was one of his strengths as he was drafted). Would be nice to have Ryan freed up but think he is our next best KPD even though he's not even 190cm.

10 derbies is a row is bloody embarrassing, if there is no crowd this week my expectation is a win from the boys. They will be fired up for sure but being fired up doesn't mean their midfield suddenly becomes good. They will bring a lot more effort than what they showed but if we can trust big Hodor to nullify Natanui and push forward from him every contest (with Lobb being the kick behind the play) we should be able to punish them. I think Darcy's form is tracking beautifully and seeing him start to realise what he can do with his size, this game looms a great chance for him to show the rest of the comp.

EDIT- Forgot the changes! I think it will be a very uninspiring Cox for Watson swap, with no WAFL games played I don't think Longmuir will bring in any of the maybes like Sturt/Henry/Tucker.

I ain’t been this confident in a derby win since I saw that glint in Dale Kickett’s eye that told me they weren’t accepting a loss.

Dont think Meek has what it takes to worry NN so we throw Darcy into the ruck to level out the midfield battle. What did we do with Meek then?

I think Meek might be better against Naitanui than Lobb and that Darcy will trouble the Eagles defense (and create more room for Tabs) than either Meek, Lobb or Treacy.

Darcy has to be the number one ruck but it could be a big win if we can bring his ruck time down closer to 50/50 while still being competitive in the ruck. Lobb goes forward when not rucking, Meek goes back/about the ground as a tall option.

Not many people would tip us until we can prove we can beat those pricks. Footytips current tally is 79% WC and 21% Freo. I think we can win, but at the same time I will be very surprised if it actually happens.

Agreed
Would have thought Eagles would be around $1.50 or so.

Anyone else noticed that JL has switched the wing roles?
Aish was the winger that got back, and Acres got forward but over the past few weeks Aish is the one getting forward and taking shots on goal and Acres is working back to help out defensively. Solid Gold move from him, has improved their output and the teams performance tremendously

No excuses this week , the cards have fallen in our favour for a change

Get er done boys

I would pick Sturt over Treacy if McMuffin is out

Spleeno and Freddy were a bit flat against North , need them to amp it up

Don’t let Lobb ruck against NN , he’s scared of him

It’s Duman time

Masks mandatory until Saturday. I’d imagine derby will go ahead with maybe 50-70% crowd?

My understanding is that there are 20 person limits on indoor or outdoor gatherings for the four days (apart from Weddings where exemptions can be applied for) and that they will "stage" out of this, so I suspect that at this stage it will be more likely be a maximum of 30% capacity at the most.

Not sure about that with crowds limited until Friday.
Tough to organise tickets in a day.

yes agree it is too much of a step change for them. It is another disaster for many music and entertainment industries, as well as for sporting clubs like Fremantle that need all the revenue it can get.

I know that but chances are whatever is set for this weekend will continue on for a while I'm afraid.

I actually think they want to ramp up quicker than they have previously. Obviously, as long as there are no local cases between now and our Brisbane game, IMO crowds will be back to 100%.

If we got smahsed against Carlton idk how we are going to win this one. I want the boys to play like their careers are on the line. I want them to use their bodies, go in hard, and do whatever it takes to bring this game home. Need to put an end to this embarrassing losing streek and send the dirty birds home early.

It's in Perth and WCE midfield without Yeo and Shuey is pedestrian. If we turn up properly, our midfield should get on top. Then it will be a case of not kicking it straight to Hurn, Barrass and Sheppard when we win the ball.

Edit: Also, Yeo obviously can't tag Fyfe so imagine if he finds his goal kicking radar this week.

Carlton played twice as well against us as they have in any game this year. It was an away game for us without our captain and with an undersized in defence. It was a poor game by us but not even close to as bad as what WC served up against Geelong.

It's a WC home game (and they are so much better playing at home) so we'd go in as underdogs but this game is definitely winnable. If our forward line had a few more weeks together before this game (and Fyfe had got his goal kicking mojo sorted) I'd expect we'd be favourites. I can see us dominating but again struggling to finish off the good work - if we can be average in front of goals I think we'll win.

Something Rohan did extremely well on Saturday was to stand the mark for WCE kick ins... when the WCE player would get into motion to kick, Rohan would rush at them. A few times he was close to smothering the ball but I'd say on almost every occasion, he caused the WCE player to panic and rush their kick more than they usually would. He wouldn't have a single stat for it but it was very effective all game.

From Geelong Board, maybe Schultz could do this
