I'd love to see us go man on man against the Eagles to start the game. We have struggled for a long time against the short kicking, "keepings off" style that the Eagles play - just as we always struggled against Hawthorn's version. If you zone off and corral against the Eagles they go into this mode where they just keep possession, even if they are not making any forward progress. The opposition expends a lot of energy just running from man to man but never gets a real look in, then the moment the zone weakens at any point they will slingshot it forward where they are very dangerous.

In the past we probably have been weaker than them one on one, so going down that route would leave us exposed in a number of areas around the ground. I think right now we can at least match them for talent in most areas of the ground, and their defenders have shown they don't like it when they have to become accountable for their man. Admittedly their forwards have the potential to stretch our defence if they get enough supply, but I think we can limit that supply so their forwards have to come up the ground to find the ball.

We've lost 10 in a row trying to zone defend them, let's do something they don't expect and take them out of their comfort zone. I don't think Simpson has a Plan B as we saw on the weekend and in the Saint Kilda game.

It's beyond annoying seeing WC kicking the ball around the back half not being manned up and then an opening happens in the zone and it's loose man over the top and easy goal.
I,m with you ,stuff the zone make it man on man.

Once they realize it's not going to be the usual easy pickings they will fold like a pack of cards I reckon ;)

Media absolutely smashing the Eagles from pillar to post. There is no doubt they will come out breathing fire.
if ever there was a litmus test (Ross loved this word) it will be this game.
Line in the sand time, cant wait.
They sure deserve it, but you're right.

They'll come out with fire and them some. Need to be still in at at quarter time.

Crowden ( Crowley) needs to tag Sheed .
Keep him quiet and we got a good chance
Not sure he's the one to tag. I watched him very closely on the weekend, only because I had a multi on the useless prick, and he is a wide receiver. He feeds off the in and under players like Shuey, Yep etc. He's soft as **** around the contest. I'd be tagging Gaff or Kelly

100% this. Those patient short kicks pay off dividends for them

Watch all his games in the last 4 -5 years then get back to me .
Last week was not a good judgment of anyone in that side . They had a shocker .

there's not a lot of difference between blue and purple. Hope we can play just a little more basic :moustache:

IMO We should field most physical and ballsy side possible...They are desperate and will throw everything they have at Us and We better be ready...
So I definitely would not take out warriors(Mitch) and bring in softer player instead, not for this match...If We are seriously intent of winning derby We better get ready for WAR,They not gonna just give it to Us...Furthermore I would seriously consider bringing Meek in to do most of ruck duties...That would allow Darcy to spend more time forward...

I really hope that players are sick and tired of being bullied as We are by that mob...So lets We all grow some Balls, get ready for war,go and beat those w***ers...IT IS ABOUT BL""DY TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO DOCKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There is no question that they will do their best to be overly physical with us - having seen the success Carlton had with this method and North slowed us down a bit this way. We are probably a bit better at handling this now but it is clearly going to happen. And history says the umpires will turn a blind eye where possible.
Given this, Treacy needs to stay in the side to add a bit off agro. I'm sure JL will talk to the mids about honouring his leads a bit and not only looking for Tabs. Similarly, Crowden will add a bit of toughness. He may have been a bit quiet in his first game back, but he'll build into it and playing mid is not his normal position. It's unfortunate that Sturt and Tucker did not get a run in the WAFL last week.
We don't know who will return from injury for them this week, but we need to be prepared to face anyone. If JK is back, then we'll need a team defense to restrict supply. We really need to keep our forward delivery precise and not bombing long to contests - if there aren't options then chaos ball is best.

They don't lose many at Optus, but we can do this. Prepare for a very physical clash, but focus on playing to our system and we've got this.

Bog game for Freddy - his high pressure at the ball to not let weagles switch / kick around free in their back half will be a major influence this week

Yep. We seem to have a rare talent of getting teams after they have been ridiculed in the media (e.g. Carlton this year).

I was hoping there would be no crowd. They will feed off a packed house. If it was empty then even if they came out fired up, their efforts might quickly go back to normal/poor. Hopefully it is only a small crowd allowed and it will be a subdued atmosphere.

This is exactly the sort of game we need Freddy to perform in .
Heaps of pressure and quick precise ball movement into the 50.
Must say he hasn't been great last couple of weeks so hope this is the one where he turns it around

The same JLO that is besties with Simmo? Wont happen. Same vice versa. This will be a real soft game imo.

I thought it was Belly and Simmo that were besties?

Legit we need to meet in a final to bring the hatred back. Even after the Gaff punch the clubs were too friendly afterward. How different would the rivalry be had we met in the 2015 GF? This is the year. We will meet in a final, an elim final, 6th vs 7th or so.

Yeah, not the same anymore.

WCE's 'keep-off' style = disaster for us. Conversely when other teams this season have managed to rush them, tackle etc. they've quickly become demoralised.

Ditto halting the uninterrupted trajectory to Kennedy is a must. None of our defenders is a perfect match for him alas. If Cox is out: I like the player I think Watson'll become, has produced some good intercepts, but I wish we had an in-form Duman to fit in too. In his best games he bobs up with surprising effectiveness to thwart the opposition.

Nic Nat will be looking to hurt people, that’s his modus operandi.
He will look to hurt people for sure. Stanley was bullying him physically in the contest and he lost his cool a bunch of times and went for the old jumper punch or late grab after the ruck contest. Darcy should be told to get physical with him early and use your body on him, NicNat just doesn't look like he has the body to last a game anymore.

He has been ball watching to much lately when he should be applying the pressure.
