While key playmaker Roger Hayden remains out of the team with a fractured leg, Fremantle coach Mark Harvey hopes to be able to recall Luke McPharlin, Antoni Grover, Michael Johnson and Des Headland for the Geelong battle. Forward Adam Campbell’s recovery from concussion will be closely monitored this week after he was accidentally knocked cold in a collision with giant teammate Aaron Sandilands in the first quarter.

He was seen walking around the change rooms in good spirits after the match.

Harvey said Clayton Hinkley (shoulder) and Hayden Ballantyne (back spasms) were both likely to be available next week despite training mishaps at AAMI Stadium on Friday which forced the club to make a late SOS call to Ryan Murphy and Michael Walters. The young Swan made an impressive debut.

Hinkley’s shoulder popped out in an innocuous tackling drill and Harvey said Ballantyne had buttocks and hamstring pain as a result of a slightly displaced pelvis.

Looks like we could have some selection problems against Geelong. Campbell should be fine, while Harvs mentioned 6 other players in contention to return from injury. I can't imagine that Johnson or Headland would be fit, but still it'll make for some interesting selections.

I'd prefer for us to play it safe with some of these guys, and to give Walters, Campbell and Pearce another chance. But against Geelong, it might be better to bring some big bodies back, particularly in defence.

Pretty sure Headland and MJ are round 14 propositions...

Dodd has a good history on him. One of the easier match ups I would have thought.

Yep. If Dodd isn't played on SJ then he may as well not play at all. Perfect match-up size wise (Dodd being slightly taller and skinnier), one of our most defensive minded players, more than athletic enough, good record etc.

As we all know we are in a rebuilding phase atm so I will be very annoyed if Walters or Pearce is dropped for the Geelong game after solid debuts.

I would like to see Head dropped to make way for Mcpharlin to play if fit(down back). Also keen to see Ballantyne given a run so maybe a chance to rest Hill with his corkie as he didnt look comfortable the other night.

Wouldn't want any of the other youngsters dropped though after they all performed well. Maybe give Kiwi an extra week if he is not 100% also. Kepler did Ok but I wouldn't be opposed to giving Clarke a run either as Geelong are missing Ottens.

Surely Head has played his last game. Only 6 possessions, cost us a couple of goals and played just over half the game despite the fact we had 3 on the bench for most of the match.

I hope so Dom. Gee I am so sick of yelling at my telly each week every time Head is on the screen. My neighbors must think I hate my Mrs....
"F *** I hate Head... No, Don't give Head the ball... F*** You Head You F***ing tosser.... Get off Head, just F*** off!!!":o

Put Walters back in for Mayne (won't be fit) and Pearce for Dodd & I agree.
NB I don't actually think Dodd will be dropped but that's what I'd do.

i really thought the big kep did alright. defs enough to keep his spot for a few weeks.

if i see

outs: head and murphy

i will be more than pleased.

Mayne should be ready rnd 13 surely would have to play WAFL first though.

As for Dodd well i cant defend him anymore needs to be dropped to let him know no matter how good his defensive game is he must take more care with the ball cannot afford to have 2-3 turnovers under little pressure every game.
Still rate him as 1 of our best defensive stoppers just needs to play boring football, stop his man an nothing more.
If he plays on johnson he will only get 1 maybe 2 goals kicked on him.
Which is a good job trouble is it will all be undone by his skills.

Grover v Hawkins
Dodd v Stokes

For as long as I can remember, a concussion has been a one week injury. Based upon my rough calculations, that means the bug fulla should keep his spot. He sure as hell didn't do anything wrong in the 10-15 minutes he played. Should've kicked a goal and was involved in plenty of contests early. It was nice actually having a forward presence I thought, but obviously 211 and his oversized shoulder had other ideas.

if dodd is to have a future, he needs to go to the shane parker school of football. punch and handball..... nothing more.... anything other than that is above his skill level

im going to be criticised for saying this, but im not sure grover is an automatic selection... he really hasnt been that flash this year.. i dont think fossie has done too much wrong and bradley played well on the weekend.... its amazing that a team that has been as bad as we have can have so many selection dillemas, i guess it is either a reflection on how bad our injuries have been, or a reflection on how many dumb ass brigade members we have (thanks IP)

head has got to go, put him on a plane to the bermuda triangle! Lets say Headland, Johnson, Grover, McPharlin, Balla and Mayne are set to go. Who do we drop remembering we should be playing a team for the future?

out

head
kepla
campbell? if Headland fit
dodd
thornton
foster

team

FF Walters Headland Balla
HF Peake Pavlich Mundy
Cen Ibbo Johno Hill
HB Suban McPhar Duff
FB Broughton Taz Grover
Foll Sandi Hase Schammer
Int Mayne DeBoer Pearce Soloman

Mayne rotating forward
DeBoer and Soloman rotating midfield
Pearce rotating half back

This team would do alright against Geelong - very dangerous forward line!

Problem with that is that pav doesnt play in the forwardline anymore :( take him out and it looks a lot less dangerous... i also think that foster and kepler should keep their place. id consider giving grover a run for subi

From my view on the grassy knoll, Foster hasn't done much wrong and we should give him a good run in the team to get his confidence going in the right direction.

In all honesty, it will depend on what positions the returning players go to. In 2 backs are in, 2 backs out. Let's look at it :-

Head - back flank
Keplar - ruck / forward
Campbell - tall forward
Dodd - back flank, was played as a tall back ( not his fault )
Thornton - flank, forward / back
Foster - mid

Work it from there.
