I can't remember the last time Collingwood thrashed us, even during our down years. I don't think we'll win, but it won't be a massive margin, we usually match up well against them. 3-5 goal loss I reckon.

Oh FFS - I imagine you would find a positive from getting dumped on your prom night by a sure thing.

And I imagine you would complain about a BJ because she didn't tickle your balls.

Porps was fine. There were better players, there were worse. If he hasn't been dropped by now, he won't be dropped after that game.

Look at us fumble around trying to find a second ruckman... should we play Sturt's second stringer, who just got beaten by the bottom team? Or the basketballer?

They are up against Ben Hudson who was excellent Friday night, what a pity we didn't think he had 3 more years in him 6 years ago

I'd love to be optimistic about the Pies game but I really can't see anything other than a 10-15 goal smashing next week at the MCG in front of their home crowd.
This year is at least the equal of 2011.
If there's one thing I've learned from the Crows this year is it's to never be optimistic about the Crows.

Went into the year expecting decent things and had given up all hope when Tex went down. Went to the North game to see an amazing win and the hope was back only to be disappointed again. Was all gone but with the WCE outs I started to believe we could win...

Collingwood have a great history against us, Beams to possibly come back in for them, their midfield will smash ours. Van Berlo to tag someone like Shaw whilst Pendlebury, Swan, Beams, Sidebottom and Ball all have 30+ disposal games. Our midfield/team really needs to become a lot more defensive minded like Sydney's are where they still get plenty of the ball but actually work well together to stop the output of the oppositions. It's terrible just how well the opposition midfielders are doing against us this season. Hannebery and Prestia both with 42 touches against us and Masten with 39 and that's only just in the past 4 weeks...

Hartigan in, Talia thrown forward.

Grigg, Lyons in.

Riley looked a leg break not an ankle sprain, watching him come off ankle sprains they usually can at least put a little weight on it, he couldn't put any on it.
Can Hartigan play as a 3rd tall? If so, I'd rather us try Otten in the forward line again over Talia, just don't think we've got much to benefit by moving Talia out of the backline.

If we don't give Collingwood a decent match up in our forward line, Reid will play forward and stretch our defence.

Reid's gone forward with success. Carlisle's gone forward with success. Give Talia a go up forward. Besides Cloke they don't have another decent big forward unless we let Reid play there.

Good point about having only one tall although I think Talia might be a better match up for Cloke then Rutten just due to how much he runs but maybe someone like Otten could help when he goes outside of the f50 (which wouldn't phase us that much anyways). Witts will be the other they throw forward but he's nothing special.

Just can't see Talia as a forward/the coaching group moving him into the forwards but it's not like we've got anything to lose by trying it so I won't be kicking up dust if they do.

Two compulsory changes with Riley (inj) and McKernan (stupidity/suspended). Surely the Jaensch experiment must be brought to an end now? I couldn't understand why he was selected this week, selecting him next week is just pointless stupidity.

This could be the end of the road for Riley's career - and what a horrible way for it to (possibly) end. Unlike some gutless wonders on this board, I'm not going to gloat over his injury (as other's did with Reilly's injury). It's never good to see a player with a serious injury like this and there are no positives to be taken from it. I feel sorry for him and just hope that he is able to recover from what looked like a very nasty accident.

Surely it's time for Grigg to come into the side, having played many, many quality games for the Redlegs?

My guess/hopes:
OUT: Riley (inj), McKernan (stupid), Jaensch (omit)
IN: Grigg, Lyons, Petrenko

You make it sound like pointless stupidity is beyond us. Can't wait for pets to come back in and large it up with a couple of tackles on the wing boundary.

I seem to recall he walked out on us despite the offer, not because it fell short. He never got over being disciplined for the night out. It was Scott Welsh who left at the same time because we only offered him the one year.

Nah it was Hudson offered the one. He wanted more. It gave him an out.

Welsh wanted 2 years, Hudson 3 I thought and we weren't prepared to meet either demand.

I think it was just as much us that didn't get over the discipline thing.

You should go watch the game again and stop having such low expectations fir how he plays. If you think he played well, your expectations have dropped so far off the chart, it's not funny.

Was a game played in conditions that suit a sure set of hands and a player with a low centre of gravity..Stick a fork in him, he is done..

I fear the only changes will be forced !!

I can't remember the last time we beat Collingwood. (sans NAB)...and they all seem like thrashings to me. ...In particular I can remember being a long way up in the last quarter and watching collingwood kick...what was it...11 goals?.. in about 15 minutes. Expecting a very big bad loss.

IF Vince is injured and Smack gets 3 weeks (assumed), as follows:

Smack ---> Anyone in the SANFL that can play forward
Vince ---> Lyons
Jaensch ---> Grigg
Thompson --> Mackay (wont happen),

In: Grigg, Lyons, Petrenko
Out: Riley (inj.), McKernan (susp.), Jaensch (general shitness)

But Jaensch will probably stay in Mackay will be in instead of Grigg or Lyons.

Agreed on the last part

For mine.

In: McKay Grigg Lyons
Out: Riley Smack Jaensch

Riley was supposedly plaing a tagging role. I'd see Wright moving into that role and one of Petrenko or Callinan coming in. McKernan will get a holiday. I suspect one of Otten or Henderson will be thrown forward to replace him, with Mackay brought in for a running out of defence role. Jaensch will probably be dropped, with the other one of the Petrenko/Callinan to replace him. Not what I want to happen, but it's what I think will happen.

I wouldn't mind seeing Talia given a go up forward, he might actually present up there.
Getting a bit frustrated with JJ at the moment, offering very little
Does Talia go forward and we bring in Hartigan ?

Yep, I would do this.

Moving Talia forward makes sense as we get to expose Kyle Hartigan to AFL football, we get to look at Danial Talia as a key forward and we allow JJ & Lynch to move back to there key positions as a 2nd forward option and a leading flanker.

I would set the forward line up as followed...

FF: Wright ~ Jenkins ~ Porplizia (but that's only because we have no other options)
HF: Lynch ~ Talia ~ Douglas

OUT: Riley, McKernan, Jaensch
IN: Lyons, Grigg, Hartigan

Hartigan to full back, Rutten to full forward..

Riley out - Lyons in.
Jaensch out - Grigg in.
McKernan out - Mackay, Tambling or Kerridge in.

Rutten on Cloke.
Talia on Lynch/Second tall.

Otten moves forward.

Our structures are a mess with 3 big, slow talls in the backline.

Take this opportunity to move Otten forward, or drop him too.

We only lost by a goal though, and we were competitive, so we'll probably only make forced changes, as none of the precious babies played horribly enough to deserve to be harshly dropped.

VB should be dropped, tagging a mid range player and only got 12 touches (and not even good ones) but we'll keep him in and have him tag some Collingwood rookie.

Brown needs more if it, defensively solid though.

Porps is lucky, but earns a reprieve for it.

Jenkins lucky SMcK will go. Need LJ to get form quickly.

Quiet night from Wright, not good enough. Need more from him, he's capable of it.

Time to start planning for next year, as suspected weeks ago, this season is a write-off. We have not beaten any team of note, so we have next to no chance of winning 6/8 against some of the better teams. Never know, may actually uncover some gems & find winning form by mixing it up.

Bring Hartigan in & try 1 of our defenders up forward - doesn't matter which one, as can rotate during game if not working out & sub-one if a complete failure. Would start with Otten over Talia & Rutten, but Rutten may be the go if Pies have a mobile forward line.

Thompson is injured - no point playing him til he is 100% as does little damage with his disposal. Crouch has showed in last 2 games he is a clearance king & bring in Lyons to pick up the slack from resting Thommo.

VB to run with Pendles, as back to his best as a run-with player. Swan gets the ball regardless.

Porps/Lynch to rotate deep, as both dangerous around goal. Good to see Porps back in form for 2 games in a row.

In: Hartigan, Lyons, Grigg, Mackay
Out: McKernan (susp), Thompson (inj), Riley (inj), Jaensch

Kerridge to come back in later after hitout with Sturt.

B: Hartigan, Rutten, Laird
HB: Grigg, Otten, Henderson
C: Sloane, Dangerfield, Smith
HF: Lynch, Talia, Douglas
F: Porplyzia, Jenkins, Wright
R: Jacobs, Crouch, van Berlo
I: Lyons, Brown, Vince, Mackay (sub)
