look you can talk him up all you want but he isn't an All Australian ruckman, he isn't even in the same class as blokes like Cox et al.

Yes, he had a good year, but his "recognition" was merely a result of him playing for a resurgent Richmond and not not a reflection of a sudden increase in capability.

We are going to have to disagree....

You don't think that going from 18 hitouts a game to 31 hitouts a game is a big improvement?

Heya Freddy, I did. Rutten did well on Brown. Both seem to be in similar positions though: great players who are almost ready to be put out to stud. I missed his game against the Bombers though (and his pre-season games), which is why I queried you guys. :)

Not trying to "player bash" but trying to gauge from you guys who else is in good nick and to "look out". Will definitely pay particular attention to Otten, Douglas and JJ though.

He had a shocker vs Bombers.. He certainly suits the strong slower type of forward. We will struggle for a match up for him vs Port... Infact, unless they rest Renouf/Lobbe up forward I can't see him having much of a role at all.

Agree - I think it's a bit of a risk and not sure how well he matches up on either Schulz or Westhoff...Port playing two ruckmen should at least give him someone to mind when one is resting up forward.

Talia- Schultz
Otten/Henderson- Westhoff

I would be thinking of resting Rutten this week, go an extra mid
It isn't like Renouf is going to go forward a create havoc

I think Rutten can do the job on Schultz. Talia on resting ruckman or Westhoff.

I suspect the changes will be
In Kerridge Out Callinan

I wouldn't like to see Rutten or Talia on Westhoff. And I think Talia has the better pace to stop Schulz on the lead. Rutten will take the resting ruckman of Lobbe/Renouf.

Otten did a number on Darling last year, daresay he'll get the gig though Westhoff might be slightly pacier.

Griffin is 4th choice at Freo, at best. I doubt he'll be in the team next year
4th choice? Would love to hear the other two that are ahead of him after Sandilands. Surely you can't put Clarke ahead of him considering he played 15 games last year and the most hitouts he managed was 13. Griffin played 2 less games and managed 200 more hitouts. One of the reasons for that being, they chose to start playing Clarke as a KP forward, whether that be because they like his abilities down forward, worried about their replacement for Pavlich, don't rate his rucking ability or rate what Griffin does (or a mixture of a few of those) there's no way he'd be ahead of Griffin at this stage and there's no way (unless he had some sort of career ending injury) would Fremantle delist him at the end of the season.

you only have to watch the highlights of Maric in the Carlton v Richmond game.....there is a bit in the 4th qtr, ball comes into the Carlton goal square, big Maric is there ready to take the mark...which he doesn't rather he fumbles closer to the goal which is kicked through for a Carlton goal - That is the Ivan Maric that the Crows traded, that is why he'll only ever be a good solid ruckman.
Wasn't it just last week or the week before where the ball basically fell into Jacobs hands and he still couldn't catch it? Any player can look poor in a selected play yet that doesn't make them a poor player. And there's no way Maric's season last year was just a 'solid' season for a ruckman, easily in the top 4 for rucks last year.

Agree - Rutten v Schultz, Talia v Westoff, Otten v Stewart ... but if Westoff ventures further up field Talia to pick up Stewart.

In: Johncock, Out: Callinan

Kerridge may be in next week if Vince doesn't play well (again).

I just hope that if Kerridge is squeezed out he's given the opportunity to play again in the SANFL and press his claims. Much harder to prove your worth when you're sitting on your arse over the weekend.

I heard a rumour that Tex wants to use a 65kg human being as a javlin.

I wonder who he is talking about ;)

ps. I made up the rumour. I just hope it happens and he picks him and throws him all the way back to Alberton.

Symbolic that Port are competitive again & that we need to play well to win.

Vince should be good as a sub. Let him come onto the ground with some anger, humiliation and frustration. I think he plays his best football that way. He is a proud boy who we want to fire up to extract every bit of his natural talent! Porps was excellent as sub last week and it is good to have an experienced player in that role! I believe it would be good to share the role and give it to the one who has something to prove.

BTW, Smith given a rest. They are being overly cautious and uping his contact work and saying he will be ready to go next week! Will be a handy inclusion after the physical fallout of a showdown!

Here it is also from the AFC website: http://www.afc.com.au/news/2013-04-12/three-included-in-showdown-squad

Note that Porps has been named on the ground so wont be sub. I would say Vince is a good chance or Johncock
Good, as I don't think it is healthy to have an experienced player sub 2 weeks running, unless underdone.

Good to see Stiffy back. Offers more flexibility than Callinan as we may need to throw him in defence if the Port small forwards cut loose.

Stiffy will be the sub, reckon that is fairly obvious given how he has been used in the past. Definitely won't be Vince or Crouch, with Hendo a slight possibility.

AFL: #AFLPowerCrows - Port: Renouf in for Redden. Adel: Johncock in for Callinan

This was one of my first posts after the Brisbane game and makes plenty of sense to me.

Stiffy can play either up the ground or in defence.

last week Callinan got picked on last seasons form at the Gabba

This week Vince got picked on previous showdown form

Personally I prefer Players to be picked on current form

With this in mind Kerridge should have come in for Vince
