So i randomly started surfing the net on Australian stadiums (after seeing some comical stadiums in russia for the WC).

Anyway, so that new Perth Stadium all up including the additional infrastructure required to accommodate it, cost $1.8 BILLION... meanwhile suncorp stadium's redevelopment cost $280 million and the Adelaide oval redevelopment cost $535 million

I know it was a new stadium, but holy crap. $1.8 billion? And yet our stupid state government has been resisting our pleading for a measly $15 million.

I think Perth Stadium was built on land reclaimed from the river which might have resulted in a fair chunk of the extra cost.

I still think that is a remarkable amount of money for the state government to spend.

The alternatives must have had some serious flaws for that amount to be the best choice.

It's the best location they could have asked for apart from being on a river. Got the land for free too from the neighbouring Crown Casino

Good point, and it raises the question of whether we're getting our money's worth. Where's the petulance, lolly smashing and occasional tears? We paid perfectly good money for our old man in the back line. Why do other teams have cranky old men, and we get this softy?

Compared to the $25 for a beer & sandwich I paid at Perth Airport, $1.8 Billion for a stadium seems pretty cheap.

..bit worried about next week though, going to visit mum who smokes. She won't smoke around me, but knowing she's sneaking away to have a smoke might be a tad much, might follow her.

You've planted that seed, even envisioned it happening and that you will give in when it does, so you will. I'd just remind yourself how crap a slow painful death from lung cancer will be, and use that motivation to not follow her out side!

Thanks, will try to be good, promise. I feel a lot better too. amazing how well I'm breathing, don't need my puffers at all, and hardly cough either. Although I didn't cough at all while up in Qld, as soon as we drove into melb I started coughing. I so want out of this smog filled place

It's not the fog, it's the extreme low pressure systems and fluctuating weather conditions mixed with lots of dry grass, arguably the worst place on earth for respiratory illness. Smoking makes it all heaps worse.

I’ve quit too. But I still end up having a few over the weekend if drinking. But I must be saving at least $300 a week.

Time for my monthly fixture bitch.

We are so unlucky the teams we drew twice all improve or are generally tough.. roos, hawks, pies, GWS.

No blues twice, no saints twice, no freo twice. No dogs twice.

Look over the next 10 weeks and there is no soft patch again, its a very unappealing 10 weeks again.. gws or hawks like 4 out of 11 games.. worst.... fixture.... ever.

The AFL had better finally stump up and give us a manipulated draw next year, so sick of finishing last and getting a tough draw.

1. After reading the first paragraph about a businessman, coupled with the first photo, I can't tell you how disappointed I was when I read on to discover his 'business' wasn't in cacao.

2. The second pic looks like a police line up, after some sort of bust. Bunch of crooks and undesirables in that lot.

My old man had quit for two years after smoking for 40 odd years and thought he could have the odd smoke with his friends at golf/trips away. Hid it from us for a while but now we know and he's back to smoking pretty heavy again.

Fox Footy have predicted every game for the rest of the season and have us finishing 3rd last on 3 wins, ahead of GC and Carlton (who they think will provide us with our other 2 wins for the season).
