Bramble is in all sorts to my eyes with Seamus, Bmac and Morris breathing down his neck.
Kosi is in strife too.
Jeka would want to re-enter the field with nostrils flaring and some new found desire or his papers will get stamped pretty quick.
Can’t really see Long making it, particularly with Hustwaite looking like an improved version.
Big question marks on Serong too, as a project player.

Worpel likely to be elsewhere, along with Chad.

Don’t think it will be too hard to find list spots at the end of the year.
Why is worpel likely to be elsewhere? Seems like he’s finally getting a bit of form back.

Frost is 29 and erratic; Breust is 32 and declining. Of course they come under scrutiny. Unlikely either have a role in our next tilt.
Breust is contracted until the end of next year, and that's when he will finish.

It's not even a discussion point.

What's the thinking behind that call on Worpel?

Started the year in the best form he's been in since 2019.

Is he still not a genuine part of the future in your eyes? Do you think a strong year from him will yield us something decent at the trade table, perhaps explaining why we'd be happy to move him on?

As it stands at round 6 I can't personally imagine him anywhere other than Hawthorn next season.

Because we have built a deep midfield and either Harley or Lorenz would mean we are well stocked for game breakers, inside/outside and wingers and most can play dual positions. We have too many inside mids and Sam seem to be prioritising good skills and positional flexibility so Worpel and Maginness would seem at risk.

I get maginness but worpel had 35 on the weekend and has generally been playing well. It’s not like Stephens and Long are playing so well at Box Hill that we are stifling their opportunities by not playing them. Would be a strange decision for mine unless we got an above market offer.

When Clarko came in and offloaded anyone overpaid and under performing he had a lot of battlers for a couple of years. Some decent foot soldiers who trained hard and set a standard at training but just couldn’t kick the pill. Most of those were weeded out fairly quickly and replaced with players who could kick it.

Sammy has a few he will deal with over the next couple of years. Some have already been mentioned in earlier posts.

If you can’t kick a footy under Sammy who could use both feet evenly then you are going to be in strife long term.

For some to suggest we will find it hard to delist 3 players is amusing stuff.

I think the general gist is some will be unlucky to be delisted

From memory Croad Bateman Campbell Osborne Ladson Williams Brown Sewell survive the cull to 2008 as well as the usual Hodge Mitchell Crawford

Mostly pretty good kicks tho

Every player we see as big part of the future has a contract out to 2024 and beyond.

Totally agree I can see is delisting Maginness but not Worpel would be a trade to a team that needs more mid depth like the suns

I think they will end up giving Ferg a 2-yearer. If he is struggling for games in 2025 it means our fwd line must be pretty decent.

After his last couple of years, that's understandable.

If he continues as he has this year, though, I can see an extension on the horizon...

Top 20 in the league for contested possessions and clearances. 2 areas we’re notoriously poor in. It’s great to have outside mids but you still need someone to get it to them. Unless we get a really good offer I can’t see worpel being jettisoned anytime soon

I can’t see it. If he continues on this way, I reckon we cash in via trade.

Why Finn is a chance to make it….

As I stumbled my way out of Norwood FC (pockets a lot lighter after spending a fortune on drinks haha) and made the trek back to my Hotel I ran into Finn and Will both pounding the pavement around the streets.

What got me is that both had a serious sweat up and had been working hard.

Would love to know if this was part of a fitness schedule they had to complete or both were just doing the extra miles.

You're expecting 6 changes this year? Seems a lot to me given the last few years of turnover.

I reckon Long and Serong will be ok.

Would the club consider offers for CJ and potentially cash in on a high draft pick?
Risk and reward. Better players than him were traded in our previous rebuild. Same goes for Hardwick. It’s an area of the ground that we have enough talent moving forward.

Sure it’s not a popular view, but if we want to get high quality picks to get some KP types, this is the year to do it.

I don’t think anyone questions Finn in terms of desire, work ethic etc. ultimately he needs to find a second way to contribute we can’t carry a pure tagger. He can’t go forward we have enough small skilled pressure players. Wing is for good kickers so no good. That leaves defence where I could see him potentially as a lockdown back pocket type, but in the modern game how many poor kicks are there in defence? If he can become a pure defender though and plays within his limitations and distributes via our skilled kickers, that seems like about the only option left. Even then he’s competing with Morris who seems more natural after going back for a few years now and a much better kick. I’m not optimistic…

I’d be expecting at least 5, and 6 really isn’t a lot should it eventuate.

The thing that still baffles me around Finn, every person in Australia knew he wasn’t a great kick in his junior footy.

This is why I believe he will stay long term. Sam Mitchell will see and hope he becomes another version of Brad Sewell long term.
