Yeah it would be pretty Hawthorn for a junk win in Tassie over the Eagles to cost us Harley, bit like how a junk win over a disinterested Gold Coast in 2020 cost us Logan. Can't be understated though what that win over the suns did for a culture.
You are on fire today mate

Look at it this way... It gave us current day Dylan Moore.

Winning culture is far more important than an individual player.

Hopefully Seamus shows something tomorrow (and ongoing). It will be interesting to see what we do with him, Bramble and Morris come the end of the season.
Seamus can build his tank and be able to play further up the ground. Let him build his confidence and lets see where that takes him. This game is really come at a great time for him. He knows he can play. Others including his coach do to.

Go ask Dylan if that was a junk win in fact talk to the players about these so called junk wins you refer to. See how far you get

Meaningless wins don't really give you a winning culture though, we haven't left the bottom 6 since the 2019 season anyways. So yeah that 2020 last round win vs a disinterested GC meant nothing.

I believe winning culture is important, but we don't have that anyway, so it's a moot point.

Most of this list haven't played in an important game in their life, so I'm sorry at this point I couldn't care less how far the conversation went with them.

I simply want top end talent into the club, I'm desperate for Harley Reid this November.

This is an epic post. They haven't played an important game in their life. Yes for u who has never played an Afl game in his life this talk is absolutely cheap. For Dylan that was very important game personally saved his career and is currently the vice captain of this great club. If u cant appreciate the journey of one of our leaders. A story of persistence and resilience then you are incredibly entitled as a supporter and to be honest no player would want to give u the time of day. Pull your head in

If we get him , you will still complain .

Come rd 6 next season you will find some reason to whinge it up .
Will either be where we are playing him, how many average possies he is getting in comparison to some random draftee at another club .
Its predictable .

And what you said is so disrespectful to our players and quite frankly anyone who has laced a boot up for a game at the top level .

You are “Desperate”

That’s funny.

Disavowing, Dissenting or Denying more like it.

I would not be surprised if we finish the year with the worst percentage.
But I will be surprised if we finish in the bottom two. So I doubt Harley will find his way to the brown and gold.
Can i ask why? I have seen this a ton in the draft thread as well.

We have been absolutely thumped in 3 out of 4 games and almost blew the North game against another poor team. A few teams are in contention for the spoon but i think we are favourites for it and i think the Eagles are the only other team i think to challenge us. North and Gold Coast i am pretty confident win more games.

Would love to better understand the clubs thinking around talls. We seem adverse to drafting any outside of MSD (with DGB the exception).

But last three afl drafts we’ve drafted 1 tall in ND but countless mids, more small forwards and hbfs. We had multiple chances to pick talls last year and went the mid/small players each time (and yes this may just have been our rankings). we’ve picked up Ramma and Blanck in MSD but they are longer shots.

Has also created list situations where we almost have too many kids in certain positions.

Maybe we’ll change course in this years draft or are highly confident of finding FAs (which seems hard) but appears a big gap in our list at present.

It’s simple. We draft best available, when the list is lacking talent.

No point drafting tall players because they’re tall and passing up more talented players.

You are the greatest nuffy of alltime.

Here's the list of KPP's that were taken post our selections last year:

7 - Mackenzie
13 - Busslinger - KPD
15 - Jefferson - KPF

18 - Weddle
23 - Barnett - KPF
25 - Hayes - KPF/Ruck
31 - van Es - KPD

37 - Hustwaite
38 - Adams - KPD
44 - Keeler - KPF

46 - O'Sullivan
47 - Lemmey - KPF

51 - McDonald
52 - Foster - KPF
53 - Scully - KPF

I think last year it was a no brainer to take Mackenzie over any of the available KPP's.

I don't think we were going to trade up for one either, the only one potentially worth what we traded would have been Busslinger.

I imagine we took Hustwaite simply because no one at the club expected him to be available at that pick. Probably too good to refuse.

It would be interesting to know why MM and his team chose JO'S and McDonald over the following KPP's. Personally I like the look of JO'S, and I think he'd have been considered a early/mid second round option if he had an injury free run at his final TAC year.

I think Kosi's terrible performances and the unfortunate injuries to Jeka and Lewis have made us consider this more than we otherwise would have. If Jeka was fit and showing promise, and Kosi was holding his own then I don't think we'd be thinking twice about it.

As for 2021, here's how it played out:

7 - Ward
8 - Amiss - KPF/3rd gall
9 - Gibcus - KPD
15 - Aleer - KPD
19 - Van Rooyen - KPD/KPF

23 - Butler
26 - MacDonald

37 - Bazzo - KPD

53 - Serong
N/A

Unless I'm missing someone there wasn't any KPP worth considering, bar maybe Gibcus. But we had taken DGB the year prior.

My guess is because they will be much better players still early on but from what I’ve seen of Scully at least. He won’t go far unless he improves massively.

Think you’ve missed a fair few other talls. Gruelweksi, Barnett, Adams, foster etc. Given how our picks moved around was lots of opportunity (if we wanted to) after our first pick (where I agree wasn’t really kpp options. Although was a few in 2021)

And yes maybe we didn’t rate any on talent (as I noted in my post) - but for 4 years in row seems slightly improbable that outside DGB every time a mid/small has been the best available, particularly for later picks where clubs often have one eye on list needs and noting we have traded back into draft a few times in last few years (for mids/small each time).

I do recall the club seeming to mention we’re focusing on mids and pacy types (best available very subjective). We at least clearly haven’t been targeting talls.

Even if it’s just been how talent has fallen it has created a reasonable list hole. We may get lucky and eg Ramma comes on etc but if not we’re going to have to work hard to fix - whether that’s in next draft/FA/trades. Trades are expensive, and draft has development time. The elite kpp FAs don’t come around very often (and are obviously highly sought after).

Obviously a lot to play out over the course of season in finding out more about what we have on list. Our list needs could look very different in 5 months time.

Gruzewski is 192cm, if he's a KPP then we might as well claim Weddle (193cm) and Hustwaite (195cm) as KPPers too. I did miss Barnett, Foster and Adams though.

I agree KPPers are a area of concern as it's a list hole, but at the time of drafting we had literally every area on the field to address. We are going to have to put in some work to address it now though.

Hopefully Blanck, DGB and Ramma continue to develop and it gives us a solid spine to work with.

Despite the hype around Watson in here I expect we will be taking a KPP if H. Reid is not available to us this season.
