How has Collingwood managed to be so successful since 2001 while Carlton and Essendon have not?

You haven’t seen what scandals have done fir your club even quite recently (Eddie cough cough).. just been fortunate you haven’t been whacked with being kicked out of draft for a few years and such. Collingwood for their “well run ness” still have only won 1 premiership since 1990.
2 in 13 years

2001-2023
Finals: 15/23 (65%)
Preliminary finals 11/23 (48%)
Grand final appearances 6/23 (26%)
Premiers 2/23 (9%)

Looking better now

Consistently good in fact probably second behind Geeong for finals but not great like Brisbane, Geelong, Hawthorn or Richmond when it comes to premierships.
Its actually not bad considering from 2012 onwards, with 18 sides. That means in the current situation, its only 8 finals spots and 10 teams miss out.

over 25% GF appearances is solid considering that on average it should be closer to 12% on average. Preliminary finals is almost 50% when on average it should be closer to 23%. However there are still clubs with better records over the time period.

Biggest difference i see between those clubs beyond coaching is Collingwood has had a never ending father sons and they got the most out of their acadamy before the rules were changed.

The biggest difference?? Really?

Essendon got cooked by wada, Carlton got done for cheating the salary cap. Both set back them back a decade. Management of both clubs, especially Carlton, has been shocking throughout this whole period.

On the other hand, we have been managed well and our record in that time speaks for itself.

one is a decade ago and the other is two decades ago.
enough time for two rebuilds for Carlton and one rebuild for Essendon.
like i said thats the biggest differences i see beyond coaches and or recruiters. All three clubs have big supporter groups, blockbuster matches and have free agents bending over backwards to get there.

and other factors too... North Melbourne has been really bad in the last 4 seasons too.

Eddie Mcguire.
He managed to get the pies out of the boys club mentality.

Peggy did it at the tigers, and chief did it at the hawks.

The bombers and blues have not had anyone do that (in fact, they get rid of anyone that tries)
He says the best thing he did was get rid of the coterie groups. too many people who wanted to have a say for the money they were providing and it caused too many factions. He made it so that the board were the only ones making any decisions.
