Whats the bet that this flog added the "dirty club" bit just to sensationalise his tweet

What are the odds the media at large run with this and spread it like wildfire? Anything to drum up controversy, especially if it can give Collingwood the "much-maligned underdogs" tag.

Astounds me that Robbo still gets a TV gig.

"Well Gerard, we started the season with 18 teams and now we've got 9 left".

There's a Robbo/bourbon/seeing double joke in there somewhere.

Could you imagine if the cup was won by interstate sides for 5 years in a row? There'd be a f*cken enquiry.

After Brisbane won it from 2001-2003, Port (2004), Sydney (2005) and the mighty EAGLES in 2006, there literally WAS an inquiry.

"The AFL has launched an investigation into the recent failure of Victorian clubs to win a grand final.
It has been seven years since a Victorian-based club won a premiership, when the Bombers triumphed in 2000.
Collingwood is the only club to have made it into the grand final since, losing consecutive grand finals to Brisbane in 2002 and 2003.
AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson told ABC TV's Offsiders program the League wanted to know why.
"We are a little bit concerned in recent years the non-Victorian clubs have definitely had a greater success," he said.
"We're interested to look at the structural differences between the Victorian clubs and Victorian competition underneath the AFL to see if there's any structural issues related to that.
"In recent years we've clearly seen non-Victorian clubs as a whole under-perform in comparison with the interstate clubs.
"And it may be a cyclical issue but what we're looking at is are there any structural issues that might explain that, or perhaps the end result of the work we do is that there aren't."

Does anyone know was it a fixture back in the early 2000's I seem to remember it being a more equatible draw. Play team's twice then the next year you play other teams you didn't play twice. Except for the local derbies?

Sort of, it doesn't work out perfectly which is why some matchups would occur more often (ie the AFL's favourite marquee games between Victorian sides). Over 3 seasons it's close to playing 14 sides 4 times, your rival 6 times, and a sprinkling of those 14 sides elevated to 5 games.

With 18 teams in the comp you need a cycle of 4 seasons in order to fairly play everyone twice, which is why the AFL adopted the 'bands of 6 teams' from the previous season to work out the double ups in the following season (2 double ups in your own band, 1 from each other band, 1 random/home state rival/marquee double up). Of course this means if you are a club on the up it is better to finish 7th than 6th and cop a supposed softer draw in order for a flag tilt the following season.

I prefer the finish 8th, win a classic on the road elimination final after the siren in extra time, build up a sense of belief you can win from anywhere and cop a top 6 fixture and then win the whole ******* thing a year later over the finish 7th and get a soft draw method!
