List Discussion - What should we have done?

Why the hell would you have Ryder playing down back???? Much more dangerous as the no.1 ruck or third tall in the forward line. Ryder is a better forward than Hurley and Hurley is a better backman than Ryder.
While paddy might be a slightly better ruckman than belly, paddy can play other positions a lot better than he can. With the bold part above while Hurley might be better down back he IMO is lot better up forward than paddy is. He attacks the ball and is always making a strong contest where paddy seems to really go missing up forward sometimes when things aren't going our way.

But the main reason why I want that set up is far to way times this year we got found out with only have Hurley, Crameri who isnt a kkp and average ruck up forward. It was clear as day we need 2 full time key forwards or our structures go to shit. Atleast with paddy at chb we can have him give a chop out in the ruck or even swap with Hurley but I think that's what needs to happen next year

We have Carlisle...

I think Hurley is better as a defender since he struggles to take out stretched marks..

Nor did Hooker play in that game.

Then you're thinking of either when we beat them early 2009 or early in 2010. Hook's missed the last two against the Hawks; Franklin missed the 2nd game in 2009 (Sewell bump game).

Must have saw early '10 game. Sorry about that guys! He can definitely can be our second defender, never denying that, I just don't think he can first post Fletcher-era. Hurley would take that job?

Just FWIW:

Petrie
Brown
J Riewoldt
Pavlich

Hooker beat all of those guys this year, before he - and the side - died in the arse.
That's a fair enough and I do like hooker but my plan is more so to keep Hurley and gumby up forward it could even work out with Carlisle going forward replacing gumby(if he cant get up) and hooker going down back. This is until fletcher retires of course, then one of pears or hooker must come in.

The main thing is though I really hated when we had one of the ruckman up forward with Hurley it just didn't work IMO having Ryder back and chopping out in the ruck might just work.

Because I have Ryder playing that position meaning we have gumby and Hurley and Crameri up forward, which then means we have 2 ruckman in the game if need be. Also I prefer Ryder down back it's was a prefectly simple post to understand I thought

Even stranger logic - Ryder in defence !

When he did his second acl the doctor from Channel 7 said you sportsmen regularly doing their other acl after their first acl because it is often because of a structural weakness shared by both knees.

This is my point.

Lenny hayes 2 ACL - both non-contact.

I could be wrong but my memory has him playing mostly forward with the occasional 2 second run in the middle.

He was part of a deep midfield rotation. He certainly wasn't in their best 5 mids but between Ablett, Bartel, Chapman, Corey, Ling, etc, it was a pretty strong first choice four or five.

That's part of the problem, in a midfield that deep someone like "ex Bomber gun" Darren Walsh could've been made to look good.

Prismall is an honest tryer, but the best thing that can happen to us is for him to be considered by all and sundry a depth player. Just because he came from Geelong doesn't make him a star.

EDIT - that last paragraph doesn't sound like I intended. In saying all and sundry I mean the match committee.

I've got no doubt he was good enough to be a very good premiership player. Given he'll have lost a couple of extra yards of pace, i very much doubt his body will allow him to get to the level he may have.

Played some good footy for the Bombers coming off a knee reco.

Chris Knights has officially left the Crows and is going to be a FA. He has played some good footy in the reserves this year but has had an injury plagued career so far. At the right price, would he be worth having, or is he just a list clogger?

Knights is just about to turn 26 tomorrow and has almost played 100 games and in 2009 he kicked 43 goals. If Monfries walks, would Knights be worth talking to?

Would have thought knights is all but signed and sealed to the tiges.
But when on song he can be pretty damaging as a goal kicking high half forward, but also has some of the more dodgy hammies you will ever see.

I think that you're probably right on both accounts. I haven't read too many posts from the Crows supporters who are going to miss him, and I didn't hear too many calling for him to get games during the year either. I still think that he can offer something at AFL level though.

I can't really remember knights to well about from tearing it apart years ago, but I can't remember what sort of player he is eg can he play as an inside mid!!!!!

Price of fish in China... hmmm.

you've failed to make a valid point through this whole discussion. You've completely missed the point.
I'm saying Prismall wasn't ever a driving force @ Geelong; he looked good behind a very very good group in the same way that Heffernan did. He's an OK player, but that's all.

Not in our best 10 or 12 mids going forward.
