They showed some great vision On The Couch last night.I get the impression Taylor plays a bit tighter, but never watched him live.

You've named 6 players. I purposely didn't say THE best but its a pretty consensus take Rance was most dominant backman and teams planned to play away from him. Nothing that any of those players had except maybe Scarlett.SOS, Scarlett, Dench, Southby, Langford, Doull, etc all having a big laugh with that one.
Common misconception the Rance wasn't good one on one. Only player to regularly get the upper hand of Buddy.Rance was a great intercepting backman, but nowhere near the top tier when it came to one on one defending.
As I said, great interceptor, average one on one defender. You've named 6 players. I purposely didn't say THE best but its a pretty consensus take Rance was most dominant backman and teams planned to play away from him. Nothing that any of those players had except maybe Scarlett.

Woah what is this alternate reality where we agree with each other?!
Don't worry, it won't last long.
could mention 20 gun backmen.....mentions 6......3 of them bluesSOS, Scarlett, Dench, Southby, Langford, Doull, etc all having a big laugh with that one.
Well 2 of them were in the Team of the Century...To be fair, the Carlton trio would be three of the first handful I'd think of as well.
(Do you like that, Thrawn?)
Clubs have said the same thing about McGovern. You've named 6 players. I purposely didn't say THE best but its a pretty consensus take Rance was most dominant backman and teams planned to play away from him. Nothing that any of those players had except maybe Scarlett.
McGovern has gone past Rance IMO.Clubs have said the same thing about McGovern.
Andrews also ahead.McGovern has gone past Rance IMO.
Both had incredible purple patches, but Gov had a fantastic year as a veteran in 2024 in a really bad team. Rance retiring at 30 brings him down on the longevity scale.
I actually agree with this. He was a really good traditional man on man defender. Then you changed your defensive system and he was outstanding zoning off his man to kill a heap of contests, but was gettable if the opposition brought it in under limited pressure.Common misconception the Rance wasn't good one on one. Only player to regularly get the upper hand of Buddy.
Because they were that good? I don't think anyone's going to doubt their credentials.could mention 20 gun backmen.....mentions 6......3 of them blues![]()
Team of the Century is clearly a good guide. Pity no Collingwood players were good enough to make it.
Ah well think we've got one locked in for THIS century [emoji106]Team of the Century is clearly a good guide. Pity no Collingwood players were good enough to make it.
Pendlebury, obviously.Ah well think we've got one locked in for THIS century [emoji106]

you'd probably put jakovich there and maybe leave southby out for a bit more of a balanced viw if only throwing in 6 names.Because they were that good? I don't think anyone's going to doubt their credentials.
Never heard of theCommon misconception the Rance wasn't good one on one. Only player to regularly get the upper hand of Buddy.
Alex Silvagni? And in the end, the little master isn't in the GOAT convo. But here we are, 392 pages deep and you Colllingwood nuffies are still thinking little Nicky is a chance.I remember watching a young Sachin Tendulkar cream the Aussie bowlers. I thought **** me, this kids going to an all time great. I don't remember saying - he doesn't hit it as hard as Viv Richards. Those medium pacers he bowls are shite. I didn't crap on about Ponting also being a bloody good young player. Or him not getting any runs from a sweep shot. The little master just had it. As does footy's little master.
Pretty sure he had comfortably the highest 1v1 defensive contests/wins in his prime.Rance was a great intercepting backman, but nowhere near the top tier when it came to one on one defending.
Even the great Josh Bootsma had 4 contested marks in his illustrious 14 game career.Pretty sure he had comfortably the highest 1v1 defensive contests/wins in his prime.
You know who definitely doesn't win 1v1 contests...
Tendulker not in the GOAT conversation, only because the cricketing GOAT is miles ahead of anyone else to have ever played the game. And in the end, the little master isn't in the GOAT convo. But here we are, 392 pages deep and you Colllingwood nuffies are still thinking little Nicky is a chance.
If footy's history had a Bradman we'd be discussing Nick's potential to be the second greatest of all time. And in the end, the little master isn't in the GOAT convo. But here we are, 392 pages deep and you Colllingwood nuffies are still thinking little Nicky is a chance.
Where would you have him in the team? Are you squeezing him in on a wing or the interchange? Perhaps as the sub?Pendlebury, obviously.
