Wow interesting to hear about the 30 days. Still a bit of a worry to hear he still has symptoms
We shouldn’t be surprised by his ongoing symptoms or the club’s decision to give him as much time as necessary.

Anyone who has sustained a major concussion and is being honest with themselves, would be experiencing some symptoms 3 weeks on.

The sad reality is that until this year, we would never have known if a player had symptoms in week 3 because they would likely have already been back playing the week before.

Players concerned for their position in the team or their reputation would be suiting up the very next week or a week later at the very least. The decision to play post concussion wouldn’t have been about whether they SHOULD be playing but whether they COULD.

if he hasn’t played before the bye then go man your panic stations but for the next few weeks let’s just trust that we’ve got a player who feels confident enough at his club to be honest with his symptoms and a club showing the duty of care necessary to make the decision to play based on whether he should be out there not could.

It's already been confirmed he had lingering concussion symptoms leading into last week, and Beveridge cited that as the reason for his non-selection. Now he hasn't been selected again, even as an emergency.

There's no time frame for when lingering concussion symptoms go away. Daniel Venables wasn't so lucky.
See above, he’s already in contact drills. The club wouldn’t have been super conservative with him and then throw him back in if he wasn’t improving.

Naughton's knee to English's head is starting to look like a serious disaster. He didn't need to be smashing himself into packs when the game was already won. Now it's looking like English has lingering concussion symptoms.

Even if/when he comes back, one more concussion could end his career.
You have to play as you play and crashing packs is what he does.

That's just one small part of it. Another far more crucial component was Dustin Martin going to the next level and becoming one of the greatest ever players.

Every team has their role players, but just about every successful team's role players were better than Roarke Smith in every way. Smith has been tried in just about every role at AFL level, and has only ever been average at best, horrible at worst. He continues to get selected because he's a personal favourite of the coach.
This is BS, Roarke played well last week and if you can’t see that then you need to watch more closely
BTW Martin was a top 5 pick

Nailed it SD

i remember times in the past where I was relieved concussed players were picked the next week only to think weeks later how they have been playing crap

It dosent do the team or the player any good to rush them back no matter how annoying it is for fans

Will be interesting to see how caleb handles the geary tag this tim round and if he does get the better of him what the plan b will be.
Dale and Williams is a fair bit of rebounding power by themselves. Caleb can drag Geary away from those guys and give them space to run.

This is because you're judging him in the context of his previous performances. Because he didn't make any glaring errors, you perceive it as "playing well", when in reality, 13 disposals and not being particularly damaging is still very much mediocre for a player in a team that's meant to be contending. That isn't even getting to the fact that he did nothing in the VFL to earn selection in the first place, and that he has no business being in the team ahead of Mitch Wallis.

Roarke Smith has been on the list for 6 years, and has never been anything other than an average player.

In junktime?

What if Naughton did his knee crashing a pack in the last 5 minutes of a game we were 40+ points up in? Would you still say he was right to keep crashing packs? In scenarios like that, players often tend to drop their work-rate and jog around to avoid risking injury, which is basic common sense.

Come on the guy is new to the forum. He is learning how to be better than most of us. If he keeps going, he will make us look silly.
No, I’m pretty sure he’s the same troll
who’s made like 5 accounts over the past month and been banned from each of them. Same writing style and same level of hostility.

Can I ask what he did to play well?

You cannot ask that as you don't know what was his role in the side is or was.

This new role in the side card appears when required

So if everyone, including the opposition coaches, know the team lineups are a joke, just what is the point? I don’t expect the match committee to give away planned moves but put in the obvious stuff for us to give some idea players roles. ( of course if Roarke does line up at FB ignore this post)
