thank **** I seen 3 flags coz unless something changes quickly we are gonna be shit for a long long time again

Surely this was assumed when we traded out our best players. It's atleast 4-5 years until we can challenge for finals. Round 1 maybe gave people unrealistic hope. We've trailed every game by 40+ even the win. Next week could get really ugly, small crowd, no atmosphere and GC have extra days rest after this heat.

That second half was unacceptable.
The number of stupid pointless kicks across the middle of the ground just to keep possession is doing my head in.
And when the inevitable turnover happens no one is set up defensively so an easy score for the opposition.

Seriously, move it was some sense of purpose!
spot on. It must be the game plan

Result is meh the real issue that this is the result we're getting despite solid contributions from oldies like Nank, Hopper and Vlastuin. Everyone under 27 is bad. Tom Brown looked okay and that's about it.

We also have a serious issue with selection integrity due to our 'composition doesn't matter' list management strategy. MRJ only got a game because there's no alternative, he's fat and was hardly sighted in the VFL. And while I reckon he'll be good come end-of-year, we shouldn't be in this position. Same with Tresize, Short, Sonsie, McIntosh (who's been fine) et al. their form barely matters because there's so little pressure for their spots.

Blight/Lynch/Faull was too tall incidentally, need Bauer as the third-tall. But given the only players we have in abundance are talls (Sims, Gray and Ryan doing enough in the VFL for a call-up, plus Balta) we'll probably just play over-tall all year instead.

I wonder if guys like Sonsie are aware of their faults.
Is he aware that he doesn't go in anywhere near hard enough?
Doesn't run hard enough?
Doesn't pressure enough?
Doesn't stick tackles?

You'd hope the coaches tell him and send him back to the VFL.
He's out of contract at the end of the year and at this stage you'd think he's unlikely to get another contract.

I've seen enough.

Dow the same, hit a bloody target with your handball or hold it (and move to become evasive) until you find a target.
Looks like a one trick pony that has his feet planted and dishes it off. Move ffs

Don't worry he will still have defenders here, he is crap and has always been. who cares what a player does at VFL.
AFL is a completely different beast, everyone will say oh he isn't played in his position.

There are a number of players getting games who will be likely replaced when other recruits start getting a go.

Smillie and Taj will likely take Sonsie and Dow's places in the team if they develop well.

We've had about 15 worse losses than this when we were playing finals let alone in year one of a rebuild. Judging by some of the melting I think people need to wake up realise where we are at.

Yes Hopper and Taranto aren't clean but look what happened to the Eagles yesterday when they went all young. Lowest contested possession count in history. That's not helping anyone. These two are battering rams and allow us to rotate some other guys through without smashing them. Anyone can see they're not part of our future but unfortunately it's all we've got right now until the Lalors, Smillies and whoever else are ready to shoulder the load. That's how rebuilds work - you're shit until you're not.

Having said that, I would like us to change up the mix there more often in games. Give Rioli a go or throw a Steely or Campbell in there for a bit of pace. Bolton was our best centre bounce player and he would've been our lightest player on the list almost. We're too flat footed in there a lot of the time.

A few positives from me:
  • Brown with 24 touches and thwarted multiple attacks. Getting his hands on it a lot more now and makes good decisions although made a couple of errors today.
  • Trainor looks a natural. And tough. Think his kicking will grow as we become better. He's probably trying to pull off a bit much at times but to me that's a sign of great confidence.
  • Hugo nice return.
  • Miller actually fought back well against Treacy. He was probably genuinely beaten in about 3 contests. He beat him in a few himself. A couple of Treacy's goals came from zero upfield pressure or a turnover and Hopper gave away a high free on one. I think he does give too much room sometimes though.
  • A few bemoaning the lack of effort makes me wonder if we're watching the same game. You can clearly see the effort is there right up until the bell but we're regularly outclassed and today in particular were out of gas.

Ugly:
  • Short. Too many errors today.
  • I've been saying give Sonsie a run in the middle but it's not worth it. Too many weak efforts today. I don't think he'll make it.
  • Ross is too up and down. I don't think his role suits him though.
  • Tresize. Just don't see it. Fumbles too much and a meh kick.
  • The ****ing umpiring. I don't normally whinge but **** me. The Rioli trip was diabolical.
  • All the forwards had shockers really but tough to do much with the supply.

put short dow they won’t drop hopper but his disposal is giving it to them every time. our best mid is nank. we need guys who can dispose of it cleanly. sonsie has not done enough.
It's a huge part of our problem at the moment. When we get the ball our chain of attack is thwarted by a skill error made by one of our guys. There are a number of frequent culprits. We get this sorted and we start to keep the ball more and give ourselves more of a chance of finishing off plays.

People have very unrealistic expectations. Anyone seen the eagles who have been rebuilding for how much longer?
Spot on and calls for Yze to go are laughable. How much inexperience do we have in the side.
