While that's true. I think losing an A grade player and adding a solid B is always a negative.
Also Melbourne has the only midfield in the league that worries me with us at full strength. Now there's is simply better without Treloar.

Not sure I agree with that to be honest,

Gawn > Sweet
Bont > Petracca
Macrae > Brayshaw
Libba = Oliver, take your pick here and I may be biased and Oliver has exceeded my expectations this year as I’ve never really rated him previously but I’d be leaning towards Libba.
Baz > whoever their 4th mid is
Hunter = Langdon take your pick

I think we still have them covered even witho it Dunks & Treloar

If Bont, Libba and Macrae play to their abilities, and best form, then we beat their midfield. I would back those 3 in against any core 3 midfield group in the AFL.

The only caveat is if Gawn has a blinder and dominates Sweet. Then it makes it a lot harder.

Having said that, we are weaker without rotating Dunkley and Treloar through there.

Smith and Lip (presuming he comes in) need to step up and provide some assistance when they are rotated through. Smith provides the pace and grunt, and Lip the elite use.

English playing well is big for us. He can chop Sweet out in the ruck, and provide a target forward. This means more midfield time for the Bont.

Good point forgot about him, pretty equal with Baz I’d reckon. Definitely don’t have a big advantage over them like we would if they were had Treloar & Dunks, I still think Bont, Macrae, Libba & Baz is as good as any top 4 in the comp

I think your right but I worry about us burning those 4 out by doing that. I hope we give someone an opportunity in the middle whether that’s lippy, Garcia, west or McLean after the bye I don’t mind, but it can help our mids last the season. Rather than have another go down due to fatigue and have to chuck in one of the above guys without the full support of our 4 main mids

Didn’t we try a couple of seasons ago and it wasn’t great? We’d also miss his marking down back which is pretty underrated.

Geelong game 2018, he was good.

we can bring Gardiner back (need to against 3 talls).

Another big body in the middle will be invaluable.

Or we could play him on the wing (as in 2019) and put Hunter in the middle.

And he’s a much better player than back then now- would be a great option.
