The AFL probably didn't know the lockdown was coming.

The Queensland premier announced the press conference at 9.35, and it started at 10, so obviously the Queensland government knew at that point what they were going to say.

The Melbourne players got on a plane at 9.30 though, and you'd think if the AFL had *any idea whatsoever* then that plane never would've taken off.
Yeah I know they didn’t know about the lockdown, but essendon still being in qld in the first place is a joke. No reason the Sydney teams couldn’t stay in Melbourne. Especially since they flew in the SA teams during lockdown.

Their families couldn't get into Melbourne because Vic borders were closed.

Priorities eh

Could it possibly be played tomorrow night at Marvel or the MCG? Tight turnaround with the Friday night clash though against the Bulldogs

I've been way more invested in the Olympics than the footy for the past week, so not upset at all.

Boomers play at 6.20 tonight so that's my focus. Plus athletics finals.

Oh perfect, hadn't realised they were playing. That's me sorted then.

Wonder what AFL is thinking behind closed doors. They moved mountains to accommodate the Sydney teams and their families. An enormous amount of money and now it's destroyed a Saturday night primetime fixture. The broadcaster will be furious

Don’t think 7 care about the footy that much at the moment. Olympics is everywhere, plenty of content.

And there's the official announcement:

Health officials announced six new cases of COVID-19 on Saturday morning with areas around Brisbane and Gold Coast to be sent into a three-day lockdown from 4pm.

It means Gold Coast's clash against Melbourne at Metricon Stadium on Saturday, Essendon's meeting with Sydney at the Gabba on Saturday night and Greater Western Sydney's date with Port Adelaide at Metricon Stadium on Sunday will not go ahead.

Melbourne presents as an option to host games, while using the pre-finals bye is another consideration.

Nothing much new but ye
