2nds SANFL Report: Logan continues to push

Logan will get his chance at some stage this year if Lobbe goes down.
If Ken gets sick again and can't fly to the game, I reckon Tommy will get a gig.

Does anyone have footage of slatterys 5 week suspension! ?

Logan's doing fine in the SANFL and not being picked is not to dishonour him. He's a soon to be delisted warrior, and the AFL team is almost certainly only going to pick players for the future.

not sure about that, Kenny doesn't ditch his senior men. he knows he needs them in crunch time. he picks players to win, not players to gain experience to maybe win now but hopefully tomorrow.

it's a long journey and players like Clurey and Impey won't be too bummed if they're pushed out of the team come finals. everyone is kept level headed in our system and they will get their rewards in due time. Kenny is all about rewarding those who bleed for this club day in day out and that is wonderfully Port Adelaide.

Logan was our best player in the finals last year - really unlucky not to be in the side.
Didn't they try to cut his pay? Perhaps there has been a fallout.
He is everything that Port Adelaide stands for. PLAY HIM

.... Kenny doesn't ditch his senior men .....
Tommy is not a senior man. He is a popular depth player nearing the end of his career. And obviously neither 1st 22 in Kenny's mind nor first in when we have a spot.
Hinkley has coached us for 1 a 1/3 seasons, we have no idea what he does in particular with 'senior men'. But by all appearances his approach for now is to use AFL team spots to develop his juniors, within the framework of a strong team.

He was given another year and not as a rookie. I see this as a thank you, a mark of respect for what he did last year.

I like tommy I prefer him over Heath and Stevenson. He might survive the cut this year IMO. I expect him to come in and perform for 6-8 games something neither of the above will do. Realistically we have to cut minimum of 3 players and given the high picks we will have this year I doubt we will try build heavily. we also have players such as Hitchy, Ah Chee, Renouf on the cusp and maybe even Cassisi retiring as many are suggesting. I would be disappointed if he was cut before some of those I listed.

It would be a miracle if anyone didn't like Tommy. But it would have to be some crazy complex team balance calculations that saw him survive. Perhaps on the edge as a rookie next.

Do you mean low picks?

Logan will be 29 going on 30 by the start of next season. I'd be surprised if someone like Heath gets the chop before him, but stranger things have happened.

Of course he is, along with Cassisi, Cornes, Westhoff and Schulz. I'm pretty sure Kenny himself called these players his senior men, his leaders without needing that badge of being in the leadership group. He has highlighted their importance from the get go and it's sad to see our very own supporters hoping to see the back of them. Of course we know by now how Kenny treats them, he wants to extend their careers, not cut them like some of our fans!!! You think he's only on the list this season as some kind of thank you, out of respect?! I really doubt that's how Hinkley and co. work. I don't think the coaches are sitting around going "boy I hope Logan and Cassisi drop off by the end of the year so we can delist them and play the kids we're worried about losing". Thank God they are a level headed bunch and know that kids will have down patches and we need the hardened men to be ready when those down patches come. Not even sure why people are entertaining the idea of delisting players in Round 8.. Anyway, this time last season everyone wrote Tommy off and they had to eat their words, they said Cassisi was not AFL standard and had to eat their words, they refused to believe Schulz could ever win a Coleman.... wait that one hasn't happened yet. ;)

You may not have noticed, but our side is pretty hard to break into at the moment. If you aren't paying attention, don't insinuate these rubbish rumours.

The 'pay cut' is fact, not a rumour. Perhaps you missed that... going from our best finals player to zero games this year is unusual to say the least. Pay attention!

I thought Port Adelaide stood for winning premierships - which means not playing players on sentiment.

My mistake.

For a number of years we had Logan, Thomas and Surjan - similar players in terms of their endeavour whilst unfortunately not blessed with speed or skill - but we couldn't carry all three on the list long term and certainly not in the same team unless it was bucketing down with rain. Surj got the chop/retired at the end of 2012 and 2013 basically became a play off between Loges and Thommo for one more year in the exclusive wet weather tough nut specialist role. Logan won.

If he keeps performing at SANFL level I think he will get a crack at some stage, maybe for only 1-3 games, just to see what he can do at AFL level this year. But this will only come with injury or a dire need to rest someone. And against weaker opposition perhaps.

Thats one way to look at it... the other way is that the opposition were happy for him to be the loose man. He did use it well enough though and will get another crack at the pointy end of the season this year when Impey is worn out.

Heath is a lot better than those two and wont be de-listed.

So you ask if they did try to cut his pay, then follow up by saying the pay cut is fact.

Also, Surjan was one of our best in the bad era imo. I wish the whole truth would come out about his desisting and departure from the club. He definitely tried to get re-drafted by the Eagles after he was delisted.

Happy he is out and about coaching our maggies though :)

One to remember when I set up my off-season thread, 'Who off of this board would you have play chess for your life?'.

Soggy Saô with visual cues would bring your insurance premiums right down.

I was referring to your reference to 'a fallout'. Hinkley has spoken at length of his immense respect for Logan, Tom's form this year (and in 2013) suggests he never has and never will drop his bundle.

I thought Surjan struggled for form in and between injury and this resulted in him being delisted. He later declared he would play on for the Magpies. Then he copped another injury and he couldn't recover forcing a later retirement from the Magpies. If between his delisting and re-committing to the Magpies he tried to seek interest from another AFL club, well there's nothing wrong with that at all. It didn't seem like there was any kind of 'other truth' behind the scenes.

As for Logan, he's playing well. If he gets a call up to the AFL side I'll be happy for him and he would have deserved it. He is battling against other good options ... what fall out?? We are flying at the moment, things are positive at the club, but at the suggestion of one supporter liking Logan to get a game we had to have people counter the suggestion by calling for the bloke's delisting. Fair dinkum, if there isn't a negative, why manufacture it?
