He actually didn't signal it hit the post - by tapping it (because he was too far from the post to do so -lol). He yelled it out.

Take a look where the goal umpire is and where the ball is.

It was still a fair way from the goals at that point too, the wind was taking it right to left so by the time it went through it was miles from the post.

Just got done watching the replay and the bitter taste of getting ripped off so badly is still somewhat in my mouth. Having said that, here are some thoughts:

Great effort by Liv Levicki getting scragged constantly but still dominating in the ruck, she'll never be a sublimely talented footballer but she's great at the taps and had a few really good second efforts today.
Johnson is so clean, great hands, another great shot for goal. With a bit more service in the coming years she's going to be extremely dangerous.
Erin was struggling a bit with her knee but she's such a great footballer. Imagine what she'd have been like if she'd been allowed to play underage footy and then have a whole career in AFLW rather than starting after most players would retire.
What a great job by Indy Tahau on Shierlaw who looked unstoppable early, just too fast and explosive for Amelie Borg. Tahau really put the brakes on her and took a few great grabs too.
Hannah Ewings is this good at 17, she's going to be the backbone of our team in a few years.

I saw him signal a point, the camera cut away, then cut back to the goal umpire hitting the post (although he was partially obscured).

Womens.afl has obtained behind-the-goals footage of the set shot, however it's inconclusive as the camera angle doesn't include the left goalpost - the one the ball allegedly hit.

The video which doesn't show the post that was allegedly hit is the vision referred to as assisting the league to make its decision.

It's impossible to tell from any of that camera work that it didn't hit the post, but sheesh, at least be honest AFL. Every player that was within inches of the ball thought it was a goal, yet the goal umpire 5m away in a s**t position thought he noticed something no one else did in thinking it hit the post.

The AFL should've just come out and said, the ball has certainly travelled through the goals, and no video evidence has appeared to identify this as an incorrect decision. The goal umpire heard a flick or saw it and called it appropriately, hence in the absence of any other information his decision can't be questioned.

Here is what we know:
1. Every player on the goal line who closely watched it cross reacted as if it was a goal.
2. The only vision showing the goal post in question shows a clear gap between ball and post.
3. The goal umpire originally called that it went through the behinds, then changed this to say it hit the post, which showed pretty clearly he has no clue. Im not going to blame him because from his positioning its clear he is poorly trained and unsupported.
4. The Sydney game a week ago had an even bigger and clearer * up.

Its just absolutely mindblowing that a sport with a profile so great that a second tier (at the time) player has a statue in the centre of Melbourne cant get these simple things right.

I really hope whoever comes in after Gil actually focuses on getting the rules and adjudication of the sport fixed. Its been all about image with no substance for way too long.

The reaction of every single Saints player in the behind the goal footage shows they all think it was a goal

But nah says the corrupt league

The worst part about it is that if it were the men's team we'd all just rationalise it by saying 'lol, they would've found a way to lose anyway' but the women's team has no real history of this so we are left to assume that we would've held on and won.

Lol I just saw a replay of that goal/ point. There is no way that goal umpire was in anyway in a position to make any sort of decision.

And the afl have ticked it off jeez

They have ticked it off only because of how bad the Sydney * up was and they dont want to acknowledge whats clearly a systemic problem.
