No, he has not done "dreadful" things.

He has, however, repeatedly done stupid and unprofessional things that have put his body, his reputation and the reputation of his club at risk. With Tom it hasn't been a one off. When your first scandal is being arrested for being wasted in a gutter in the morning while in possession of illicit drugs you should really have got the idea straight away that you need to sharpen up. Instead we see him continuing to prioritise having a good time over being a professional athlete.

Missing rehab while injured is a big issue. Maybe in isolation what happened on the Vietnam holiday wouldn't have been a problem, but in the broader context of what else he has got up to it is just further evidence of a problem to learn from past mistakes. You say it is a beat up, but the reality is that he put himself in a position to get injured which was totally unnecessary. He was playing an amateur football game, while drinking alcohol, in the bloody ruck! When our players can rule themselves out for the season just walking home I do not want them playing full contract football against amateurs, amongst whom you can almost be certain there is one who fancies himself a bit of a hero and would like nothing more than to knock off the AFL star.

I understand having little faith in the media, particularly the football media. But I don't really understand still having much faith in Tom Liberatore given his track record either.

Maybe he has changed in the last year or so. You would be mad not to do some serious due diligence to ensure that was actually the case, though. And that is all on top of the due diligence you would need to do on his injuries. To an extent he is damaged goods, as a result of both his indiscretions and his lack of fitness, so could come at a discounted price such that taking a risk on him makes sense. None of us on this board are in a position to make that assessment though.
Come on mate, surely I never said that we shouldn't do due diligence. And surely i never made out that I was in a position to make any sort of assessment about whether of not the club should employ him. I'm usually pretty careful about that sort of thing. I think he has talent, plays in a position I think we need and has the 100 games of experience.

I don't have little faith in the media, I have none whatsoever! I try never to believe what is reported is fact. This post now was the first I'd heard of the illicit drugs, or if I'd heard it previously, I'd forgotten or simply didn't believe it.

Having said that, I don't really know what you are worried about. If there is a grain of truth behind the 'illicit drugs' story, we won't even look at him no matter how good he is.

We should do everything we can to get Lynch. Find new homes for Hannebery and Lloyd, whatever it takes.
Only if we find a new home for Reid... swapping Hannebery and LLoyd and taking Lynch only creates further problems in our midfield, and buggars up our forward line as well. I agree that having Lynch forward receiving Buddy kicks would be sensational, but I think that it's much more important that we get JPK some help and have a progression plan there.

Dawson (21) looks a likely prospect in the NEAFL to replace JPK (30), but he is still very young and untested in the AFL (1 game only). However, JPK was 22 when he came to the Swans and starred every year from there. So here's hoping Dawson follows in his footsteps!

Hayward (19) is 186 cm (6"1) and seems to me to be developing into an excellent leading and marking forward. Ronke (20) is 182 cm (5"11) and is a naturally gifted, extremely quick small forward with extreme pressure in defence. McCartin (19) who is 192 cm (6"3) who is an excellent mark and lead, but is having a little trouble with his goal kicking. Papley (22) is 177 cm (5"9) and is a good crumbing forward who can play through the middle. Buddy (31) is 199 cm (6"6) and is brilliant and can do just about anything except take a one grab mark. Our other forward is currently a resting mid (or Fox from the bench for the last few games), and I'm a fan of this forward line.

That leaves Reid (26) who is 196 cm (6"5) who is an excellent mark and lead, and who has the 100 games experience needed with all the youth. I reckon if you want to bring in Lynch, then Reid would need to go. The problem is he is on a 5 year contract, and much like Hanners, if the club believes he can recover full fitness and form, then it wouldn't trade him.

Just can't see how it could be done...

Lloyd isn’t a midfielder
No, really... I hadn't noticed

and Hanners will never be what he was imo
And yes, so you've said at least 50 times!

What do either of those things have to do with what I posted?

If we lose Lloyd and Hanners and only gain Lynch, then it's likely that Jones will again play off half back a lot more (again). Whether or not Hanners ever regains the top of his form, only time will tell. But he was a contributing cog in the wheel before this latest injury. Admittedly, I would have liked him to hit a few more targets, but he was contributing, finding the ball, winning a few clearances, laying the odd tackle.

To lose them both, with no corresponding gain, will further diminish our midfield in my opinion.

EDIT: I'm not saying don't trade them, just don't trade them for Lynch. It leaves too man holes elsewhere...

Tom Lynch would be to Richmond what Kevin Durant was to Golden State. The Australian reaction to him I'm sure won't be anywhere near as vicious as the American reaction was to Durant, but interesting nonetheless.

Premiers aren't allowed to improve their list remember

"You've got the current premiers going and spending a million dollars on a new player," Matthews said.

"Tippett has priced himself out of everyone else's range, except Sydney, and it's not supposed to work like that.

"They are supposed to be getting rid of players."

Looking forward to Leigh coming out in the media anyday now :straining::rolleyes:

I would do something like this. * next to those players that cannot be forced (ie. have a contract)
This is very harsh on some players, but I don't feel they will be a part of the next premiership team.
(note: this has almost no chance of happening)

Retire (or trade to another destination that may extend their careers should they choose)
Kurt Tippett (already gone)
Jarrad McVeigh
Heath Grundy
Kieran Jack*

**Retain or Retire (not going to be part of next premiership but am partial to being retained)
Nick Smith

Delist / Trade (Keep one from this group, I'd go with Robinson on a one year deal)
Nic Newman
James Rose
Jordan Foote
Daniel Robinson (possible retain)

Consider Trading (if advantageous)
Jake Lloyd
Gary Rohan

Promote from Rookie List
Ben Ronke
Robbie Fox
Alex Johnson (if keeps up current trajectory)

Retain on Rookie List
Joel Amartey (already signed)
James Bell
Angus Styles (if he keeps his current form trajectory, otherwise delist)

Delist from Rookie List
Jake Brown (I am not convinced he has done enough, has had a chance to step up in lieu of more senior players recently and has been shadowed by a couple of academy kids IMO. Looking at his stats, he hasn't increased them greatly over the several years being in NEAFL despite now being on the Swans actual list)
Toby Pink (unlucky for him, injury has not been kind, just don't think he has shown enough improvement)

That would leave, after rookie promotions, 6-7 spots on the main list and 2-3 rookie spots.

Draft picks currently 14, 32, 34, 76 (I think)

Draft and Trade Strategy
Option 1: Try and trade up the draft to get ahead of our likely Blakey pick. Lloyd could be useful here packaged with our first round pick. Pick up Blakey likely from our existing second round selections
1.1 Then try and trade the fringe types to try and get back into the second or (more likely) third rounds and look closely at the free agents if there are any players that would suit our needs.

Option 2: Trade our first pick and if needed what we get for Lloyd (if traded) to get a quality player for an area of need, probably midfield.
Repeat 1.1

Something like that anyway.

I would have Rampe playing the Lloyd role for what its worth.

This is where my head is at right now anyway. Anyone else want to have a go?

Have a crack at pick 1
Lloyd plus 1st rounder plus 2019 first rounder for pick 1 and a 3rd or 4th rounder for currency in the Blakey pick.
We need top end talent.
The top of the draft is good this year. Wouldn't rate the overall depth but if you have a top 10 pick you should get a great player.
