Best players not in HOF
W Johnston (should be first in)
C Mew
G Buckenara
W Schwass
T Barker
If we use Bell as the standard they are all straight in, and M Bickley is straight out.

I remember going to a roos vs blues game at princess park and the crowd yelling dominator for johnston, elevator for madden and masturbator for doritich.

I was too young to know what all that meant but the dominator did stand out from the pack

The Legend status is a AFL marketing wank. Completely unnecessary category. Who the bloody hell has the right to say player X is just inside the top 10% but player Y is only in the 11-12%???

Maurice Rioli has to be inducted next year - no ifs or butts any more - under the Barry Cable inspired move.

1980 WAFL GF his team South Feo win - He wins the Simpson medal for BOG
1981 WAFL GF his team loses the GF - He wins the Simpson medal for BOG
1982 VFL GF his team Richmond losses the GF - He wins the Norm Smith medal for BOG

Who in the history of Australian Football at the highest state league level before we had a true national comp, has a record like that in Grand Finals?

168 games for South Freo
118 games for Richmond inc B&F first 2 years at Richmond
3 All Oz selections from carnivals
State of Origin games for WA and NT

As good a mid fielder as has ever played the game. Should have been inducted years ago, before he passed away.

I must say he is one of the best players I have ever seen play the game.

Adelaide Crows bias aside, Malcom Blight would be a worthy legend. His accolades as a player alone are phemonominal:

Career highlights
Club

Representative
Coaching

St. Kilda bias aside, it's incredible to think neither Trevor Barker, Stewart Loewe or Nathan Burke are in the hall of fame. Especially considering some of the players who have been inducted in recent years.

HoF member is as far as Tuck should go. Take Tucky out of those 7 premiership sides and Hawthorn would have still won most if not all of them.

If he'd dominated in a lot of them and was the difference in Hawthorn winning rather than losing then you might have some sort of a case.

Geez those performances are woeful. And they want him as a legend?

From the era I've been watching (late 80s)

Ablett
Sheedy
Brereton
Dunstall

All should be legends
Brereton and sheedy definitely should not be legends. Media work and promoting the game isn't a part of the criteria for legend. ablett and Carey should be next in as legends as they are without question. Then we have dunstall and Judd who will be borderline legends. By the time all of them are done we have Garry Ablett junior and possibly buddy if he keeps going at his current level for another 3 years.

To be honest, those career awards aren't all that impressive when we are talking about legend status. Definitely needed his coaching career to push him over the line.
