Steinberg sounded like he was best on. How can he be so good at vfl level and yet just can't seem to step up to AFL level?
You've answered your own question. It's a step up and it's a big enough step up to be beyond him.

Some players are just like that. Hardingham is another classic example.

Win by 4 points!!

So we need Footscray to lose to Werribee next week and us to win against Richmond and we are in. I doubt we can catch up on percentage and Werribee won't smash Footscray to match our percentage. Very possible.

Or if Sandringham lose their next two games vs Geelong and Casey, we would take their place by percentage.

Casey may be desperate to win the last game to keep Coburg out. Need Geelong to win

Results go our way next week and its box hill at box hill in week one, if not probably Casey at north port oval
Nah, Coburg. They'll win today.

Laverde, Langford, Dempsey (?), Fantapants, Giles, Mckernan, Gwilt, Edwards, Aylett, NOB, Hams (maybe) are guys off the top of my head who would be on the cards.
Dempsey no, Hocking is a possibility.

So this is the last round situation (today's match doesn't affect us):

Essendon vs Richmond, Windy Hill: if we win by about 23 or 24 goals, we may overtake Footscray on percentage. It's not outside the realms of possibility, but we need to win to be top 4.
Box Hill vs Williamstown, Box Hill City Oval: If Box Hill win by enough we could overtake Williamstown on percentage, although it's unlikely.
Werribee vs Footscray, Avalon Airport Oval: Really need to hope Werribee win/draw this or keep the margin low enough that if we somehow manage to pull off a 180 to 40 win that we go into 4th.

If we win, our percentage is too high to go lower than 5th, and if Footscray lose we go into 4th basically.

Also, players eligible for finals after week 1:

Ashby: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Aylett: Hasn't played seniors
Browne: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Dalgleish: Hasn't played seniors
Edwards: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Fantasia: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Giles: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Gwilt: Needs 1 more VFL game to qualify
Hams: Hasn't played seniors after June
Hocking: Missed 10 consecutive games (not 100%)
Kavanagh: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Langford: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Laverde: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Long: Hasn't played seniors
McKenna: Hasn't played seniors
McKernan: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
O'Brien: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Pears: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL
Steinberg: Played more than 6 games VFL, less than 12 AFL

Obviously I ruled out players that we know won't be fit. Hams, Dalgleish, Aylett, Long we don't really know (presuming out), and let's hope Gwilt is fit for week 1 of finals. Week 2 I'm hoping a side like this will run out:

Ashby - Freezer - Gwilt
Tipungwuti - Steinberg - Browne
Fantasia - Coghlan - Schroder
Hardingham - Pears - Langford
Laverde - McKernan - Giles
Tagliabue - Polkinghorne - Kavanagh
O'Brien - Edwards - Hocking - Thompson - Wallis*

I was behind the Essendon goals in the last quarter. There was one that was clearly a goal but the goal umpire called touched. He then copped some abuse from across the fence. Then there was one that was clearly touched and he called it a goal, almost as if he felt guilty.

If Sandringham lose today's match and next week vs Casey while we win vs Richmond, then we overtake them on percentage

Has anyone been able to get their hands on a replay yet?

Also, eth-dog, surely Myers would be eligible?
Pretty sure he'll be out for the season, so excluded him.

Sandringham will win today comfortably and next week comfortably.

Sandringham up comfortably (currently 71-47). They will be in 2nd tonight.

My take would be to beat Richmond first, which we should quite easily.

Reckon Collingwood will beat Port well, Box Hill will smash Williamstown and Werribee's home ground advantage will be enough to beat the Bulldogs.

Therefore I predict:

1. Box Hill 60
2. Sandringham 56
3. Essendon 48
4. Williamstown 48
5. Werribee 48
6. Collingwood 48
7. Footscray 44
8. Casey 36

Week 1

Box Hill v Williamstown (Box Hill)
Sandringham v Essendon (Port Melbourne)
Werribee v Casey (Werribee)
Collingwood v Footscray (Port Melbourne)
