Powerfully built wingman who impressed for Western Australia at the National Championships with his sharp competitive edge and game awareness. Was one of his state’s best against the Allies and played all four matches during the tournament, averaging 16.8 disposals and three tackles while showing a real appetite for the contest. Continued to develop with his club Peel Thunder throughout the year, where he progressed from the under 18s through the reserves before making his senior debut late in the year. Had strong performances in the agility test (8.26 seconds) and 2km time trial (6:24) at the national Draft Combine which demonstrated his athletic prowess.

So to round out Carltons Draft we have picked up a steal in Charlie Edwards, taken the diamond of the draft in Angus Hastie and topped it off with a cherry on top in Reece Torrent who is bound to cause a storm.

I'll finish Geelong's picks with something they've largely avoided to this point, an out and out midfielder.

KRISTIAN FERRONATO

BASKETBALL BACKGROUND

A dual sportsman who was on track to be a potential Boomer of the future, Kristian Ferronato set his attention on reaching the elite AFL level instead. In the Coates Talent League, he dominated on the stats sheet, averaging a whopping 28.3 disposals, 3.8 marks, 5.8 tackles and 4.7 inside 50s. On paper, his numbers are impressive, and his production and contested work are certainly up there with the best going around - as is his work rate from contest to contest.

However, Ferronato's effectiveness can be hit and miss at times, which hurts his impact-per-possession compared to more low-accumulating, high hurt factor types. Though, with some eye-catching athletic traits such as his power and agility, Ferronato has upside and ways of adding a point of difference as the typical high-production inside midfielder. His exposed form throughout the year garnered enough interest for a state combine invite, and he remains a solid late or rookie option.

An outside player with ball hurt factor and speed, Leary fits a bit of a gap on our list. He is very undersized and lacks defensive accountabilty, but at this pick it wasn't a super tough call.

Oscar Ryan was the other player I considered here with Patton off the board.

Run and gun specialist, has some serious wheels on him and provides a lot of speed, run and carry and good kick out of defence. Is prone to taking on a run sometimes with no where to go, but otherwise has some real talent.
