The problem is we keep drafting young guys with no athletic pedigree. Adds to a team full of athletically challenged stiffs. The worst part is we need some of those slow, inside types.. Which we do have in Priddis/Gaff/Mitchell... But they get exposed the worst along with our Key position players when we don't have young explosive players that can break lines and apply pressure.

Drafting skilled players is pointless. Disposal efficiency is useless if we can't get enough separation and speed. Disposal efficiency drops FAST the more contested it becomes... Doesn't matter how slick a kick an individual is.

Partington, Cripps, Duggan, Sheed, Hutching, Sheppard... A big chunk of our youth.. All slow as hell. And most of them are not very physical. It's a terrible combo.

Those are the guys that should be explosive and athletic on this team. Priddis, Mitchell and Gaff aren't the problem. Weren't a problem. They are some of the best inside mids in the game. But because we don't have the speed and explosion on the outside, these guys look bad... And so do key position players.

Every Cousins needs his Judd.

Should have drafted Liam Ryan. Hope we still can.

Saying our club needs to not draft skilled players when we can't hit a target by handball 10 meters away is really stupid.

How about we draft athletes that have skill.

Our skill are deplorable and you want us to ignore this?

Dumb.

Skills can be improved. Athleticism? Not so much. We need to start gambling on high potential prospects, and stop wasting picks on safe, low ceiling tier individuals like Partington and Duggan.

Obviously at our club skills can't be improved.
Even Shuey has got worse.
I get we need pace and good athletes but we need good users of the football as well.
Good disposal is far more important than pace.

What's the point of running fast only to kick it out of bound or missing the leading forward?

Our skills are s**t.

You're an idiot

Meh, I'll take football ability over athlete every day of the week. Granted if we are recruiting players on athletic ability you're better off going Elliot Yeo over Andrew Gaff but lets just get some blokes in who can kick, mark, handball, and tackle at an elite level.

Actually I think the bleeding edge of research is suggesting there is a much higher degree of plasticity in the human body than previously thought. For instance muscle fibre composition is being revealed now as being far more grounded in the type of training you do compared to the idea of being born with a set ratio of fast, slow, medium twitch fibres that will never change. You could probably train Andrew Gaff to shave a second off his 100m sprint or add 6 inches to his vertical leap a lot easier than you could train him to hit a bloke on the tit from 25m off both feet.

They're linked. The better our ball movement is, the simpler decisions are made and the less pressure put on the ball carrier, will result in improved execution of our skills.

Here's your problem.

Athleticism is much more than muscle fiber types. I agree with you on the plasticity of fibers types. I have researched such. Clenbuterol has shown to actually convert slow twitch fibers to fast.. Abet in tests on animals/rats/mice.

Back to my point,

Anthropometric factors play a HUGE role in athleticism. You can't teach someone to have long legs, short torso, optimal femur-tibia ratio, tendon lengths, toe length, Achilles tendon length.

Andrew Gaff will NEVER be Chris Judd. No matter how many squats and sled sprints he does.

You could probably train Andrew Gaff to shave a second off his 100m sprint or add 6 inches to his vertical leap a lot easier than you could train him to hit a bloke on the tit from 25m off both feet.
No.

Cripps and Shep are not slow. Gaff is no inside midfielder.

Sheesh, is that all?

Not asking for much are you!!!
Never think you can't do something. I definitely never thought I could write a book, and even after I started writing it, I was like, 'Oh my God, how am I gonna write a book?' Just set your sights high and reach for the stars. Go live your dreams, and never think you can't.
