The fact that Newcombe doesn't even move at all is amazing.

He didn't even ride the bump, he just dealt with Weightman with utter indifference.

He gave him a whack, timing is off the charts. Could have been an opening batsman with this touch.

Barely moved his feet, just got his hips lower and lent in.

Looking at these, it makes you wonder what Weightman was actually trying to do? It wasn't a bump and it was a pretty shitty attempt at a tackle. He just ran into Duke and no surprise, came off second best.
I thought the same. All I can think is Weightman expected Jai to try and evade tackle by moving away and was expecting to reach further to grab hold. Newk had other ideas and leant in to ride the contact with added KO though

Watch Dukes feet. He was moving forward and I dare say Weightman came into tackle with his left shoulder / arms intending to put his head behind Duke’s back (which would be safe).

Duke props at the last moment - meaning he isn’t as far forward as anticipated. Means Weightman’s head ends up in line with Duke’s left arm/ shoulder. He has nowhere to go now but into the body with his head. He anticipated continual movement and was in deep 💩 when Duke stopped to brace/bump.

Some insanity on weightman’s part, when you watch it at full pace you see his head was always going to be vulnerable.

He literally tackled leading with his head.

Can we all agree it was a piece of poetic comedic interpretive dance, choreographed for all of our enjoyment entertainment and pleasure.

Can anyone remind me what attributes Finn showed that got him drafted? Have the club constricted his development by focusing him on the tagging role? Why hasn’t he progressed to a regular ?

Positives - Athleticism, discipline.

Negatives- footskills

In his junior years he was a contested bull who was capable of kicking goals as a centre mid.

I think the club has targeted his development over the last couple years which has taken away from some of his strengths, but I think ultimately when/if he comes good it's as a defensive mid similar to Viney.

He was a pick 30 that has lasted 5 years on an AFL list, what kind of player do expect to land at pick 30?
I thought he was recruited under the father / son rule .
What sort of player do I expect from a pick 30?
Pretty simple , a regular in the 22 .
Not a specialist tagger who might come in one week, then is not needed the next week.

I somehow think you are really REALLY struggling to live up to your name

Endorphins are chemicals (hormones) your body releases when it feels pain or stress. They're released during pleasurable activities such as exercise, massage, eating and sex too. Endorphins help relieve pain, reduce stress and improve your sense of well-being.

You are not sounding at all like an endorphin machine, sorry

Finn needs to evolve as a tagger to become more of a Cameron Ling type and win his own footy. At the moment we only have 17 players competing in contest and offensive transition.
That becomes 16 when Ned Reeves plays as he does not get the footy.

Sometime's I watch him run past the ball to stay with his opponent.
I don’t think this is sustainable for us as a team going forward.

I'd argue it's better Finn runs past the ball.

Who cares anyway?
We were all singing his praises when he was shutting down opposition guns last year, why turn on him now after a couple of average games?

Having a C-B player nullifying an A-A+ is a win.

But yes, I would also like to see him become a Cameron Ling type tagger that wins his own ball too.

It's his skills by hand and foot that need to improve it is that simple, he is genuinely one of the worst kicking midfielders in the league. If he could just be average he might be a player.

You should go back through the past few drafts and see how many players drafted in the second round have already been delisted.

There’s a few gems in there but by and large most players taken in the 25 - 45 range in the past 5 years have failed to fire long term.

That's the real question with Finn, are we as a side better off with a C grade player nullifying a A grade player or are we better off picking a B grader with the hopes that they develop into our own A grader (very convoluted sentence but you get my drift).

If he was a Cameron Ling type tagger (ie a tagger who could also get 30 possessions and kick a couple of goals up forward) it wouldnt be an issue.

To me having a player like Finn is good for winning specific games where the match up suits (ie Daicos) but you can't really play him all 23 games as every second week there won't be a suitable matchup.

And most good teams have settled midfields (ie Melbourne) that don't chop and change like that.
