Strong development unit now..

Andy Collins - Head
David Mackay
Arryn Siposs
Zane Littlejohn (Part time)

Look forward to the players progress

Expecting more goals from 70 out now

Also surprised he has given up so quickly on punting

He spoke about this on SEN a while ago.

Basically said he had no choice but to return home after Philadelphia cut him due to visa reasons, although he was still keen to put the work in back in aus in the case a team asked the question of him.

So I take it we weren't able to secure a replacement for Newman? Pretty disappointing

Dude, Ratten is a huge get.

As can be seen in the footage on Social Media, he is going to be quite hands on and still do a lot of coaching. We have a great balanced team of younger heads (Mitchell, Hale, Simpson, Littlejohn) and experience (Ratten, McCartney, Collins, Hickmott).

Similar to the Rath appointment when Clarko arrived in 04.
With respect, Rath is/was a sport scientist/analyst isn’t he? Biomechanics as well?

No doubt Arryn will have his lived experience, two codes of knowledge but not sure it’s a fair comparison. Both brought in for kicking expertise is as far as I’d take it. Is Arryn across teaching beyond himself?

Not unusual to put in an ex-player into the AFL position though! Wellbeing has its share.

Do you know more TD?

Collins and he are close from Williamstown days.

Fair to say Siposs is a better kick than Rath, and can speak from experience.

Rath never played at the level, and was plucked from the AIS.

I sincerely doubt we're after kicking IP from an NFL side. The majority of our better players can do things with a football that most NFL punters couldn't dream of - just have a look at how many collegiate punters are washed up 30 year old ex-AFL players.

If he's been brought in for anything it's the breadth of experience he has now had in the US collegiate football system and at the Philadelphia Eagles.

No doubt actually doing something has it’s worth, I’d be keen to know what else he brings. Sippos can’t kick for them on game day, Rath didn’t either.

One industry thing Clarkson should get credit for is his insistence of having coaches get qualifications regardless of playing career.

Rath continues to be sought after. I’d say most analysts and biomechanists never played in the AFL. Siposs may turn them into Jarman’s I’ll be happy, I think it’s less likely. Happy to be proven wrong.

Criminal lawyer, brain surgeon… don’t need to be in jail or have an ABI to do the highly specialised job. I just can’t see how fields of knowledge can be dismissed this easily but it is common in elite sport. Damian Farrow would eat this conversation for breakfast.

Siposs comes across as a great role model and enjoyed his lack of ego when interviewed in recent years. It is a laugh when Riewoldt becomes a jock sniffer when he wouldn’t have spoken to him down Moorabbin.

If Siposs is ‘pretty disappointing’ then give me a list of who we should have appointed.

My only issue is that on face value we have another inexperienced coach joining the ranks. Simpson was a first timer and our backline went from a strength to a weakness.

However Siposs is a development coach and we don't even know what areas he will be helping with developing, so it's too early to whine about it. Especially when we don't know what other candidates may have been available.
