A couple of things to consider when streaming:
  • make sure to use a 4K camera
  • have a scoreboard preferably to the bottom right of the screen
  • action replays are a must
  • have someone go interview Andrew Russell at half time

  • Keep the camera on Mr Magnificent
  • That's it

Was in the pocket of the same end as varcoe when he missed that last shot. Never felt more relief in my life. That game was absolutely unreal. Perhaps the best win of the cats-hawks rivalry to date.
He actually didn't get close, he choked because it wasn't a difficult shot.

Sewell was just in the precise spot to make him hesitate.

One of the acts in that last quarter that doesn't get too many mentions was Hale's bump on Bliclavs in the centre of the ground after the Geelong kick in. Brilliant, desperate stuff. Hale was a great big game player.

Was a 3v1 against Hale. S Mitchell highlights it in his book. We lose that contest, and it's a Cats goal. Was a critical moment.

Hale is such an underrated, key cog in our threepeat! Bar on this forum, his acquirement never rates a mention.

Agreed. For a while he seemed in and out of the top 22, but when you watch the replays of some of the most critical games during our threepeat he was an absolute top big game performer.

I think he was firmly in the 22. I don't remember him playing at box Hill much of at all. He was number 1 ruck with roughy as backup in 2011/12 then had Bailey as a partner then we got McEvoy for 2014. McEvoy was in the 2's for a bit in his first year though.

The reason why Hale was so criminally under-rated (even by our own), is the very flexibility that made him so valuable. Clarkson found/created a role within which he could not only succeed, but maximise his contribution to the team as a whole.

As a key forward, he'd kick <2 goals a game - below average for a FF (where he was often named/lined up).
As a ruck, he'd get 10-15 hitouts, a few tackles, and a dozen touches - pretty average for a ruck.

The thing was, Hale did both in the same game. No-one could argue he was an elite Ruck, or an elite KPF. As a 2nd Ruck/KPF he was arguably the best in the league for quite a few years. Depending on matchups and tactics he could play as a genuine KPF (with the nous for the position, not just big and tall like Ceglar/McEvoy), and especially later in his career was very effective as a genuine ruck too.

I find a strong correlation between people who rate Hale and those who 'understand' the game and can discuss the game in depth - rather than just follow the media's stories.
