Cuningham and LOB should be able to force their way in but aren’t locks at the moment. Stocker could be anything and is probably the most exciting player outside the 22. Will reserve judgement on Newnes until I see a bit more but seems a reliable head, much like Newman who is also stiff.
While I’m confident he’ll come good, I just don’t see Dow as a best 22 player with the influx of talent this offseason. IMO he only should only get a game due to another player’s injury or poor form. I want to see him rip apart some VFL games on a week to week basis. He may never be a high accumulator or give us a dozen highlight plays every week, but there have been games in 2019 when I barely noticed he was out there. Not contributing in any way. His well documented woeful disposal just makes it worse. I can deal with players getting 10 disposals a game if they make 80>% of them count. He’s more like 50% or less.
I do think you’re underrating Newnes too. I think he’s a best 22 player no doubt. He fills so many needs for us - he’s the right age bracket, right amount of experience, hard body, elite runner. He’ll absolutely be on a wing round 1.
The overall message from all of our best 22s is that we finally have more players vying for spots than there are spots available. Great place to be.
EFAI haven’t seen enough Newnes to lock him in yet. He’s in that blurry group of 25-35 IMO.
Dow is a personal favourite of mine. I think we need to persist with him like we did with SPS who became really important last year. He seems like a guy who thrives on confidence and maybe 6-8 weeks of dominating the VFL will give him that, or alternatively a big round 1 on the G.

Reckon he will be a good mature body in VFL side and back up only.
I clearly think they are very wrong. lolHmmm. A few on here have him well in the 22. He was a top 10 player at StKilda only 2 or 3 years ago.
not so sure.......EFA

shatap........you never are
How those splinters going... ?

He is a mature body and that is about his best asset. Nothing in his skills stands out to me as going to keep more skillful players from going straight past him.
I simply see him as there for if some kids do not come on straight away like Dow or O'Brien or a number of injuries happen to someone like Ed Ciurnow or Simpson and an extra mature body is required. I expect him to be an emergency almost every week and play maybe around 10 games at most.I have Newnes in our Best 22 to start the year. I do think his experience, big body and run are going to important for us. At the risk of being a fence sitter, I do also agree that - if all goes to plan re the development of some others - he may be surpassed as the year goes on. In fact, if he is still in our best 22 at the end of the year I fear that the year may be something of a disappointment. Dow, Stocker, LOB, Williamson and perhaps even Cottrell all play in a similar wing/HBF role and have a chance to really cement a senior spot. Until then I see Newnes getting some meaningful AFL time.
Dow is similar to Weitering in that Bolton saw his potential, threw him in the deep to fast track his development, and ended up destroying his confidence instead. Like Jacob before him, recalibrating in the VFL away from the spotlight will do him a lot of good.

Correct.Dow is going to be a gun.
Let's see how he goes in 2020 with a full pre-season.
A few things stand out at training:
1. Cuningham is sublimely skilled, smooth and more powerful than most of his peers. A class above.
2. Williamson comes across similarly.
