1st test team of the summer

Why? Burns was hopeless in Sri Lanka. I'd rather play neither of them but SMarsh is opening so there is little need for Burns. I'm thankful Steyn would have made him look worse!

So was Khawaja. So was Mitch Marsh. So was Nevill. So were a few other guys. They all kept their spots.

If Burns is going to be "punished" for SL, then so should a couple of those guys. You can't have it both ways.

Marsh said the thing that cost Bird ahead of Mennie in the squad was his batting.
I couldn't believe it when I heard that! As mentioned why don't we concentrate on our batsmen making the runs and our bowlers taking the wickets??? I would think that makes more sense than picking bowlers that are making up for the deficiencies of our batsmen and vice versa.

Obviously Neville has been given a pass and doesn't need to make any runs though.

Neither Khawaja or Burns should be there. Both are very limited test batsmen. Nevill is our keeper and I'd rather not have Wade near a test side as a keeper thanks!

I guess the logic is that Siddle's batting has really fallen away, and Hazelwood/Lyon are genuine Number 10-11 types. So they don't want "three Number 11s" in the team. We saw with India a few years ago, it was 6 out = all out.

Well here is a thought and I know it's radical....pick 6 batsmen!

Are Hazlewood/Lyon really Number 11s though? They both average 14/15 at test level, and are more then capable with the bat. Thats an average of a number 10 and a stretch 9. Hell Warnie use to bat 8 for Australia and he only averaged 17.

We get it, you hate Wade. I think we got it the first 5000 times you said it.

That doesn't change the fact that, if the selectors are consistent about punishing poor form, Nevill needs a good score very soon.

How MMarsh keeps getting selected is a joke! He can't bat!
Do you like anyone? You seem to whinge and sook about every player that is picked. Burns wasn't the only one that was useless in Sri Lanka. So was warner

I actually wouldn't be against playing Wade as a specialist bat. Have said that for quite a while. He's good enough to bat in our top 6. Not as a keeper though.

I think Shaun Marsh is set to deliver. This is the summer he needs to play well to justify the faith shown. I think he's ready to flourish. Fingers crossed he's great to watch. Elegant player

They could be thinking that their bowling is basically equal so they might as well pick the best batsman.

Must admit i still find it a bit odd just based on bird doing just what we wanted in his last test outing, if people like burns lose their spot for not doing what they were meant to last time up shouldn't bird get first look based on his successful last outing?

If as others have said they are worried about a very long tail then why not pick burns or somebody else and have 6 legitimate test bats, i still think that makes a lot more sense than playing an obviously below par top 7 and trying to cover it with tailenders who can bat a bit, once we go down that road it is only a matter of time before two bowlers who are clearly not even close to being equal are picked or not picked based on how many 50's they have or have not belted lately.

Yeah I can understand that, but if we had an actual batsman at 6 and a keeper with better batting ability than Neville we would be able to make up for this.
I actually have no problem with the Mennie selection, but that reasoning is just ridiculous.

Also a quick look at CricInfo, In Mennie's past 11 innings that he has had a bat, he has scored one 50*. Outside of that his next highest score is 9. Yes a lot of these were in limited overs cricket where he would have had to come in late a 'hit out or get out', but I wouldn't exactly that it screams out about a man in form with the bat.

He also averaged 13.29 in the Shield last year, 20 innings with a top score of 49*.

I look forward to him doing an Ashton Agar on debut (should they select him) and making me look like a fool.

I wouldn't be playing any of Voges, Khawaja or Burns. I have been consistent there. Time to move on reward some domestic players that show something- Handscomb and Patterson would head the list

Marsh got a hundred in the last test, funnily looked the best out of all our batsmen all series

How the **** is Mitch Marsh still getting a game? Ridiculous!

The primary club will get a workout with him. He's very ordinary.

I guess his batting in the Shield match sealed his spot...oh wait...

So if burns just keeps scoring runs in shield cricket like he had been. Do they just ignore a bloke that's in his mid 20s now
