It's possible Garlett isn't the brightest crayon in the box. (from http://www.afl.com.au) :p

In his own words
What type of player are you?

Midfielder/small forward with good skills on both sides of my body. I’m a hard worker with good goal sense.

Which AFL player do you most resemble and why?
Chance Bateman. We are both hard-working midfielders who have good skills.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
My strength is my hands in close and my kicking.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
Work rate, mental toughness and skills.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Fremantle Dockers. I've supported them because my grandparents support them and they always watch their games.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far and why?
My grandfather, because he is football mad and is always at my games and telling me what I've done wrong or right, and how I can improve.

cachia is a gem of a player. great competitor who gives his all 100% of the time great mark with a great leap which has seen him take many extaordinary marks over the years one against xavier in 2007 which was unreal. people pay out on him for lacking good kicking skills which i think to be a bit unfair his right is very solid and his left may need a bit of work. queries over his temperate for AFL football, has been sent off in many games and loves getting in the middle of a fight. He would do anything to get onto an AFL list and would work his backside off over the pre season.
would be a tragedy if he didnt get drafted..

Also have you seen/formed an opinion of Robbie Hicks, a small forward for PEGS/Vic Metro who would fit a similar need?

TRS I haven't seen Hicks play but after reading his bio on the AFL site I agree he also would seem to be a nice fit for that fwd crumbing role if we decide to go that way.

6 games for Vic Metro averaging 2 goals a game isn't a bad effort. Also being from Victoria he may be preferred to an interstate option with the go hame factor eliminated.

I see he is on Richmond's permission to train list that was released yesterday so he may be on their radar.

Friend of a friend, Josh Griffiths trained with u guys yesterday. I watched him play a couple of times throughout the year at the Knights. He's an impressive goal kicking midfielder and he seemed to always have the ball in his hands. Very slight chance that he would be picked up in the draft but just wondering if anyone saw him trained or your thoughts on him if you have seen him play before?

Interesting - Had a few BOGs in his early games for the Knights, and only played 11 games for them this year.

"Goal kicking midfielder" might be a stretch, as he only kicked 3 in his 11 games, but he's certainly a player that might be available on the cheap due to limited exposure.

Comparable to other rumours, I'd actually believe this one as plausible.

Could be a Hine Kind of Pick Too

Only played 11 games at Knights due to his commitment to school footy at St.Kevins. Goal kicking midfielder may be pushing it a bit, sorry about that, but in one of the games I watched he kicked a couple and pushed forward briefly.

30 possessions on debut is not a shabby effort. Aside from the fact that he's a midfielder, I wouldn't complain if we selected him.

GOLD Coast has confirmed that it will pick former North Melbourne midfielder Daniel Harris in Tuesday's NAB AFL Rookie Draft.
Recruiting manager Scott Clayton said that Harris' selection by another club in the pre-season draft was all that would prevent the 27-year-old from joining Gold Coast.
Melbourne, Richmond, Fremantle, the Sydney Swans, West Coast, Port Adelaide and Essendon hold the seven pre-season picks, however, the Demons (Joel Macdonald), Fremantle (Adam McPhee) and Swans (Daniel Bradshaw) have already committed to other senior players.
As part of its draft concessions, Gold Coast has the first five selections in the rookie intake and will use of one of those to sign Harris to a two-year deal.
"As part of our philosophy, we're certainly going to bring some AFL experience onto our list with our first five picks in the rookie draft," Clayton told afl.com.au

Glad we won't be Tempted to take Harris with him going to the Gold Coast

Can see the reasoning behind Shirley's retirement.

He is effectively going to be left out of senior footy for 2010.

At his age, he must've not wanted to play for minimum wage and be left out in the outer playing reserves footy.
