Lance Franklin
Lance Franklin is a giant of the game. The star Sydney Swans forward has played 300 AFL games, won two premierships with Hawthorn, is the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in VFL/AFL history, is one of just five men with eight All Australian blazers and is the most recent player to have kicked 100 goals in a season. The Western Australian is also one of just two players in the game’s history, along with former Swan and Saint Tony Lockett, to have booted 300 goals for two clubs. Franklin was added to a leadership group for the first time in his career ahead of season 2020, joining co-captains Josh Kennedy, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe, as well as Callum Mills. But the 33-year-old, who was named captain of the 2018 All Australian team, has long been considered an exceptional unofficial leader, so great is his impact on Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and the rest of Sydney’s young forwards.

Lance Franklin
DOB: 30 January 1987
DEBUT: 2005
DRAFT: #5, 2004 National Draft
RECRUITED FROM: Dowerin (WA)/Perth (WAFL)/Hawthorn

Wish I had you as my high school English teacher.

You’re a very generous marker.

I guess if a student stars at english all through school then has a couple of average weeks , yeah i wouldn't expel them

Love the headline!🤣🤣

Ah! No actually.
This is the beginning of a successful streak of form.
We will win at least 6 of the next 10 & sit 8 & 6!
Unless we name Buddy again.

Average score with Buddy playing in the last 3 years?
90 points.
Average score without Buddy playing in the last 3 years?
99 points.

This year.
With Buddy, average is 86 points.
Without Buddy, 118 points. (33 scoring shots from 58 entries).

The stats are damning.

We cannot lock the ball into our forward line with an immobile player.

Yep, his best value would be delivering from the wing into the 50 but he'll get shut down too easily by any decent defensive set up or gut running winger.

If you have the stats handy, do you know the averages scores against as well?

You have a long and glorious history of pillorying Buddy. I imagine anyone could dredge up similar statistics about X player playing with Y player. Does that justify the result and justify team changes. You are consistent. I will give you that.
Myself. I have loved having Buddy as part of the Swans. He has been a highlight reel. The 1000 goal game would have been the pinnacle of those games. But he was instrumental in us achieving success in our 2014 and 2016 seasons. He was instrumental in us winning many games.
your penchant for deriding Buddy, especially in his last year with us, is more a reflection on yourself than Buddy.
For your sake, give it a rest.

Success? i wouldnt say that he gave us the opportunity shame the rest of the team fell apart nobody is going to remember our 2014 and 2016 seasons even tho we were quite dominant.

There was one incident which summed up the 2014 GF Lake absolutely drove his shoulder into the ground early in the 1st and nobody flew the flag embarassing.

Would do the deal all over again in a heartbeat.

we dont make last years granny without him

im not sold he is done yet

Unquantifiable asset that Bud brings is competitiveness to not lose and to lift the team. We clearly cannot find a spark without Bud kicking a goal and pulling everyones heads in.

Bud gets frustrated if he gets beaten but the rest of the side just looks shocked/stunned

My thoughts exactly.

Was much more mobile yesterday than in his other games for the year.

I do question his ability to run out games though and think there needs to be a real consideration of subbing him out in the last. It would be a big call since he has so often stood up with the game on the line in the last but at his age and fitness i am not sure he can really do that anymore.

Actually like the idea of Buddy playing three quarters and being subbed. With the injuries we have I don't think it will happen. Can't see him being managed either. He looked sluggish today , he really need precise kicks to his advantage with the limited mobility he has these days.

Disappointed when Sheather fumbled that ball through in the goal square that Bud just walked off. Go to the campaigner in his second game and get him up off the ground, and tell him to forget about it.
This shows that we have a group of players looking out for themselves now.
Losing is one thing but playing out the game giving encouragement to your team mates creates some positivity on the ground. It's bad enough being undermanned but a senior player like Buddy needs to encourage. He's not winning another p'ship anytime soon.

He's checked out.
Get him to 350 games, break Doug Wades 1057 goal record, put him on ice until rounds 20-23 for a victory lap and hand over a gold watch and a picture of a spitfire.
Thanks Buddy, it was great fun watching you play.
