Autopsy 8 point loss to Essendon

He looked good whilst the team was competitive and atleast he runs at the footy. Thought he must have been taken off thats how much of a fall off he had when the VFL team went missing. Had a decent game against GWS atleast.

Problem is that I don't want to see Mitchell replace Lloyd because you are getting the same damn thing but with 250 games less experience. Bombs away and an unphysical game

You can make a case Hanily didn't deserve to go out.

I suspect Mitchell is next midfielder sized player in unless it's Adams, who also couldn't replace a Lloyd role.

But I also don't really want anyone doing what Lloyd does currently😂

Francis was average af , back to old ways.

He can’t handle pressure

Booing spooked him for the set shot, but he has some tools I guess. Not a fan tbh.

Leave him leading up the ground and give him one job if he is there imo

Give me Snell Buller Hanily Guss in the best 22 next week and teach these guys that they are droppable
Doubt Mitchell will be fit. Copped a knee to the head and didn't return. Hanily very quiet yesterday. Our best of the listed players was Ladhams followed by Kirk. Snell was very average. Green and Bowman were supposedly playing but both might as well have not been there. Adams looked cooked and disinterested. Buller OK but tough to get a read on him given the crap work done up field. Never thought I'd say this at the start of this season but if we want to bring in a mid size player, Kirk is most probably the one in best form and might offer the most.

Cupboard is bare.........

Hamling is a defender, his give off in the fwd fifty late was a forward w absolutely no desire to pull the trigger…..Cox wtf is he doing w this side positionally. I wonder just how influential Don Pyke was, it seems very and the residue from his time here is gone.

We need to bring in the next actual forward, Don’t confuse form and being ready.

Play players at the top level if they are next to go right now. You learn little from VFL performances inna VFL team that is full of unlisted players.

Injuries injuries injuries.

The lack of injuries goes a long way to explain why we were so successful last year. We’ve being found out this year.

And we didn’t make it count. Literally got the injury draw from heaven all year and failed, half of that was the coach not resting players but whatever.

We are copping the opposite this year it happens but whatever at this rate we’ll have a selection before King

We all know Buller is absolute rubbish too. We simply don't have the tall forward stocks we need to cover injuries.

Maybe but it’s worth at least seeing Buller can he do any worse?

You just want to see the basics.

Run and chase
Lay tackles
Defenders keep a man
Forwards lead out and create options

‘If you spill marks, or make errors and get beaten because you aren’t good enough then yeah ok it sucks, but at least you can point to grit and effort and say ok they are trying to do X, Y, Z week to week.

The fact they can come back is an indictment on their overall effort. I also don’t think they played any smarter or with any great intensity to get back, I just think that Essendon 22/23 was kinda shit and the lost players to injury.

The fact they considered making one of if not our best tall defender a forward all summer tells us what we think of our Key Forward stocks.

Only 1 of our best 3 is available and some may question those 3 as it is.

Just start Hayward from the goal square and get him out leading, ask Francis to just run and create space out of his ****en way to draw the defence, that’s all you have to do Aaron, clearly fit, just run around and if they ignore you then you will get it.

That’s where maybe Blakey starts half forward/chf at least he can take a grab, we can use Bice in defence, heck Hamling can free up Rampe.

Heeney could even go forward before people get the shits, he is just getting beaten to death in the middle right now, maybe it’s worth a try for a half? Campbell Warner Rowbottom at the bounce.

Also I Love Jordon tagging work, but we go extreme tag and take away all the other stuff he can do

Don’t know where you hide Roberts, we actually need him to get it less

I don't want to come across like I'm making excuses because there's no reason for us to play like we did in the first half last night, and this isn't an observation just about the swans but the impact of injuries on a team is massively underrated by most people.

Our lack of injuries definitely was a big factor in our early season form and also a factor in our drop in form later in the season. Brisbane had the same thing in reverse.

Early every year there seems to be a couple of surprising bolters that everyone gets excited about only for reality to hit when their gifted run with injuries disappears.

Anyone who thinks Adelaide have genuinely turned the corner this year is in for a bit of a surprise should their luck with injuries run out.

I haven't seen anything from Cox to suggest he's a great coach as yet, but I also know it's silly to judge him off what he's had to work with so far.

100% and thats why I think I am finding little enjoy as there is little we can do to change it.

Not like I really have seen much from Leidler to chuck him and and don't think Kirk has done enough for a debut

I'm not against it but I'm just saying don't expect much better than what Hamling is putting out and also don't be surprised if it's worse. Buller is not AFL standard.

As frustrating as it is, the reality of the situation is that we've hit the absolute limits of our depth and there's not really anything else to call on in the reserves.

All fair

The concern is if you said everyone’s fit and go through say the 9 players you drop out from yesterday no one has really shown they should stay or command a spot, or even are a long term option.
Little glimpses but yeah.

I think we can carry developing players like Cleary, Warner and Sheldrick (every team does) but our depth hits its limits when we're relying on Hamling, Paton and Francis imo.

And some of those players who are currently underperforming (Lloyd, McInerney etc) might find they work into the game easier with the knock on effects of the opposition having to focus on Gulden.

If Mills, Papley, Amartey, McDonald, Gulden, Melican, Cunningham and Fox were fit and firing, who would be dropped from yesterday's 23? My personal opinion of Adams is he's done and should never have been signed so not including him.

For me it would be Patton, Hamling, Francis, Corey, Lloyd, Florent, Roberts and JMac.

The first 2 q was some of the worst footy I have seen live by any team let alone a swans side.

We are imo so ****ing average atm it’s frustrating and just hands in head stuff
I've rarely left any game before the final siren but I was seriously considering leaving at half time last night. One of the worst halves of footy I've ever seen and any half decent side would have already put the game to bed against us.

We don’t really know. Still, he is a forward and should be bought in. Manufacturing forwards from defenders is a 1000 to 1 play.
