Bit of both, if people want to cheer for Sydney and say they are great every week without fail, then go for it, people should just support how they want. You should also be able to be honest without being told to support another club
Yeah for sure. If you want to get around them then go for it. But I think too many people on social media want to be the arbiter of what’s acceptable when supporting the team.

100%

I felt like Roberts turned a corner in the second half yesterday. He’d been horrific disposal wise for 2 games now.
He started to make some better decisions are really showed he wanted the loose ball showing some desperation.

Panics a lot, but at least he is willing to go get the ****en thing , sometimes I think guys don’t lead and don’t chase it because of fear of failure or something

Reading all the various things being said I'm led to wonder who could genuinely be proud of their game yesterday. Not that it was perfect, that would be silly, but that they put in a real effort that was effective and that their teammates and the coaches would be happy with?
My take (not in any kind of order):
Francis Grundy
Heeney Rowbottom
Wicks Bice
McLean Rampe
Roberts got a lot of possessions but I think would/should be dissatisfied with his game, Hamling put in a fair effort but was beaten too often by average players.
The rest need to have a good, hard think about what needed to be different. Some put in effort but we're ineffective, some not much at all. I recall seeing McInerney do a centering kick and thinking "gee, that has no penetration on it at all" as it fell short and led to a turnover. No crispness in our execution, except for a few.

Gone from arguably the highest skilled and scoring team of 2024 to a side that struggles to kick more than 10 goals/cant take contested marks cant stick tackles 43 yesterday and it looks worse that Rowbottom had 8 of them...

Yeah there’s def a lack of confidence from him at times which creates that bomb kick or clanger.

That split second difference between deciding weather to chuck it on the boot and bomb it out of your zone and taking that extra bit of time to spot up a clean handball or short kick can at times seem to define our best from our worst form.

I watched again

That first half , don’t think we have been that bad for some time.

Never seen kicking like that

I would say a large majority of the group came into this season less fit than last

The kicking/handballs/general skills are poor because they all have lost a step with their fitness so they rush their decision

So many long bombs to nothing or handballs just being off this year because they don't have that extra metre or two of space and is under much more pressure from oppo to actually hit the target

Errol normally has 30-odd quality disposals, many of which are i50’s.

People say injuries aren’t an excuse - but the moment his ankle got rolled was the moment our hopes nosedived.

Agreed but imo its noticeable this year that our burst forward when we do win it or get the ball is a step off the pace from last year

Injuries aren't an excuse for the basics don't get me wrong.

But take the equivalent of Gulden , Mills, Papley , mcdonald, Amartey out of collingwood and how are they going? Not to mention Cunningham, Fox, Adams at least as backups.

But yeah basics and workrate matter more

To be honest his hot takes are usually very wrong especially when they involve port.

I get the mccartin move tbh. Our forwards are unreliable. Since Reid’s injury against Collingwood in 2022 we haven’t had anyone who can mark the ball forward of centre from outlet kicks. Mccartin does seem to mark the ball well in the backline. Let’s see whether he will be the messiah.

The downside is that he has shown himself to be a lot like Rory lobb. He is a bog average forward who can’t kick straight anyway. But as a defender he can mark it which no one else seems willing to do (I’m still upset about melican spoiling against hawthorn ffs) and teams by and large have no fear bombing it into our defensive fifty because they know georgiadis or Cameron. Or meek or whoever will bring the ball to ground because we have no decent tall defenders anyway.

He has to play back or we have to have the best half back flankers and wingers in the league because the ball is hitting the ground all the time and teams are just roving goals from ten metres out from soft drops and soft spoils every game
Marking as a forward is very different to marking as a back. It hasn’t surprised me that McCartin had struggled with the forward craft.

What has surprised me is that he has give very little down the line as well.

If all McCartin did was create a contest of sorts in F50 and support the outlet kick down the line / out if D50, I’d take it. But he had looked weak everywhere but in defence - where he clearly belongs (whether he likes it or not).

I absolutely love Gerard Healy commentating Swans games because you can just tell he knows his shit when it comes to us, whereas every other caller I'm not even sure watches all of our games.

He made a few really great observations yesterday, one being the call-out on Blakey for ducking and leading with his head to try and win frees too often.

And he was also the first commentator, that I can recall, to call out the fact that we don't run forward in numbers and move the ball by hand, it's always us trying to kick our way through the field. This is something I have been complaining about for years and it's been driving me nuts that we're never called out for it.

Has Francis ever played forward before as I was surprised with his performance when he come on.Will he play again next week and as forward?
Early at the Swans he played forward a bit. He was pretty good at finding a mark in F50 not great at converting.

He did well yesterday, didn’t he? I certainly hope he gets another go.

Also constantly got caught behind Ratugolea who is a massive unit. Couldn't even provide a contest. Then when he swung back, gave away a couple of frees and still looked lost. He had an absolute shocka.

It was a brand of football built around a list and it was successful

You've got what you want now

I hear you mate. It’s basically wine sipping mums saying “gotta cheer for the boys no matter what. If you don’t then you should support another team”
It’s like there’s a group of them that have a cut and paste waiting for any critical post.
Those types need to stick to cheering their 10 year old no matter what.
I've actually found it most commonly to be middle age males like myself. My favourite comment is go support another team when chances are, I've been a club member for longer than they've known the club existed.

It would be. Heeney weny missing completely in the middle two quarters, only 1 & 3 disposals.

I thought Blakey tried hard, pity he couldn't kick accurately.

Bice same as Blakey. He kept trying things.

Rowie tried hard. But if I see him kick another dump kick I am going to hound his Social Media lol

People knocked him nbut Campbell tried all day and was trying to get things working. He just got caught too often but then again his teammates were not helping.

Wicks tried hard but I thin Rioli might have been his responsibility. Bad bad bad

I am not sure there was one player who actually played a whole game
So you blame Heeney!!

Have a look at our mids.
The ones that win the ball out of centre bounces and stappages is
Heeney
Rowbottom
maybe Jordon
maybe Warner
That is our formidable inside mid brigade winning first use.

The rest of our midfield on the weekend was
Lloyd
McInerney
Florent
Corey Warner

When we went on a run of wins last year guess who played most of those games and played inside?
Adams.

Now I am not advocating Adams to be the saviour but he is a genuine inside mid.
Mills is a genuine inside mid. But he is injured.
We don't have the bulls in the guts.
We have the glamour boys on the outside and when they get the ball we look pretty good.

Wolftone blames Heeney!!
You don't need to be a rocket scientist to decide who to target to destroy the Swans.
Heeney was scragged all day. Credit to him to do as well as he did.

Heeney needs genuine inside mid help.

Yet when we do run the ball with hands and link up we look the best team in it. Who would have thought ! Man power has hindered it to an extent this year but last year with out any bias whatsoever it produced some of the best football played by any side in a long time. Ironically in all the games we have lost we have used it to make a run and looked the winners bar the Pies game. Even then the first 15 minutes when we skipped out to a couple of goal lead it looked how far we could win by. Just have not seen often enough for long enough this year. Even undermanned we are capable and at the moment it’s infuriating to see a lack of consistency to execute our key weapon.
