I haven’t watched a Carlton game for more than a month. How bad are they really? Enough to drop a checks notes 82 point precedent?

Carlton beat us by 82 points on Good Friday, which was only two months ago.

Not exactly certain why anyone would go into this game "expecting" a win.

Tbh that game felt like the "perfect storm". Our players were lazy, defence was unsettled, opposition were under incredible amounts of scrutiny in the media. Why can we draw against Brisbane but not beat, or at least get close to, Carlton's level?

Agreed. It feels like an outlier. And if we bring the kind of pressure and defensive intent that we saw on Saturday, it won't be happening again.

If North stick to the forward press style of game which they have adapted to quite well then why not play Maley as the congested forward 50 better suits a leaping forward rather than a Larkey type who needs space to be effective.
Of course Marley’s kicking issues can’t be easily mitigated. Handball off to McKercher instead of a set shot?

We may need that get out of jail target on the wing who can take a mark, given we got locked in our D50 last time.
But we also had a very high number of F50 tackles, so not sure they'd want to change that forward mix.

Maley’s set shot looks like a dog’s breakfast, we all know. However, his completion rate is not that bad, as far as I can see. He either kicks a goal or doesn’t make the distance.

He has a red hot dip though, if he just works himself into a frenzy pre-game, he makes others walk taller. He can have 5 tackles, 5 bumps a game. That's all I want from him. Halve contests in the air or on the ground. Doesn't need to kick it once if McKercher is instructed to receive every handpass.

I’d agree except that even with the high number of F50 tackles we only kicked 10 goals which won’t win many games. I’m suggesting more of a tweak but yeah I wouldn’t want Maley Larkey and Darling playing I50 at the same time necessarily.

I really like that Fisher runs and presents as an option, not enough of our players do the gut running.

That is about all I like though, I am not a huge fan... if he played to his strengths and used his powers for good insead of evil then he would be great. If he got the ball and encouraged the others to run with him and whenever he got the ball he looked for someone who can kick and then sacrificed himself to provide protection for that player he dished to then I would be his number one fan.

But for whatever reason he works himself to be the last link in the chain and it almost always turns to shit because he is an extremely dubious kick, always has been and we have to accept that it is unlikely he is going to change dramatically.

Will Dawson might be an option. Could ruck and play either end. I hope we don't rush Comben in too early.

We should be expecting to win. Haven't 5 of our last 6 games all been decided by under 10 points? Freo and Lions are all better than Blues and we could/should have beaten both of them.

I expect us to win or go close trying.
