Reilly and Porplyzia should be able to come in... but for whom? I think Vince needs a few games with the Eagles, just to get some touch. Burton could also very easily be rested this week.

In: Reilly, Porplyzia
Out: Vince, Burton

Jericho and Stevens need to play well, with Johncock and McGregor snapping at their heels for Round 10.

I would bring Reilly and Johncock in for Vince and Burton and give Jason Porplyzia a run in the SANFL.

Under Neil Craig the younger less experienced players don’t get a lot of game time and if Jason Porplyzia comes back into the side he may only get half a game. He needs a solid run. He has had a few injuries this season and hasn’t played a lot of football so a week back at west Adelaide and a full game may be best.

I doubt Neil Craig will give Burton a rest, he hasn't done it the past few weeks and he didn't on Friday night (a home game against the bottom team). So I can't see him doing it now.

Vince could be safe, as he's been playing up forward, unless Porplyzia comes back in. Jericho could be out for Reilly.

Luke Jericho has his faults (everyone knows that) and limitation on what he can and cannot do on the playing field but the two performances he has given were good enough for him to keep his place. He shouldn’t be dropped before Bernie Vince

Bernie Vince may have more long term potential but at the moment he is not delivering on that potential.

Once we can gain a few more experienced player (Johncock, Reilly), Brett Burton will be given a week or two’s rest so he can get his knee fixed.

Not straight away though. Reilly and Johncock may take a couple of weeks to run into form.

Vince has to be the first to go, as his form has been disappoinring.

Jericho next - nothing has changed IMO.

I agree, Vince's form has been off and a run in the SANFL will do him a lot of good. If Vince goes out and Reilly comes in I guess Jericho could spend some time up forward.

Agree with everything you said until......you said something about Jericho and forward. My mind said Nooooooooooooooo :( :) .

Possibly so but I will be very surprised to see Luke Jericho dropped before Bernie Vince or Richard Douglas and I can see Brett Burton or Scott Welsh getting a week off (If they need it to freshen up) so the NC can monitor LJ especially if they are looking at delisting him.

IMO Neil Craig will give Luke Jericho (or any player on the list) every conceivable opportunity to perform and follow his instruction. He will be given a few week to show the club he deserves a spot on the AFC playing list or any other clubs playing list for that before a definite red line has gone though his name.

Some have written him off but I am still a fan of Luke Jericho’s and believe he has something to offer.

He hasn't been that bad! He's certainly played his role over the last two weeks. He did back out of a few contests on Friday night, but I believe that can be fixed. Weren't people saying Reilly was soft a couple of years ago? He comes across as a reserved and quite person (this is from seeimg him around the place), but I believe he can improve.

We might have to implement a drill where we play a game of Brandy with Jericho. That may harden him up. :)

I wholeheartedly agree.
Its improving the team and not killing the confidence that Jericho and Douglas are building.

Besides Burton needs rest and recuperation. I'd get him right before winter hits the footy.;)

I disagree that under Neil Craig the younger less experienced players don't get a lot of time. Against Richmond the %Time on Ground shows Burton 38% and Bernie Vince 53% as the lowest time on ground .Burton's reason was obvious but everyone else had at least half a game on ground. Hudson 61% and Griffen 65% were next.Douglas 93%, Knights 85% Jerich 72% showed that the youngsters are getting a go. Goodwin 88% show the max time the gun players in the running midfield have.
The only reason players returning from injury return through the SANFL is they are considered not fit enough for AFL or there are players playing better in the Crows team. The Kenny MacGregor one is the classic that has the radio media chatting. He is not in the side at the moment because fitness and form are not as the selectors would want. Forget what Rooch says...he will play when the selectors feel he is ready.

I would also rest Burton, but you can be sure the stubborn Neil Craig won’t. Despite the fact he is having no impact and playing is only further injuring his body, he won’t be out. If McGregor can’t force his way back into the team soon, then he must be trade bait at the end of the year. I’m sure we could get a second round pick in return.

Vince and Douglas have done little to suggest they should be retained in the side, so they both should be sent back to the SANFL. However Glenelg have a bye next week so unfortunately I doubt Craig will Douglas.

Burton rests. He rested on the bench for most of the game on Friday night.

What I will say though is that I'm concerned that Douglas spends 93% of the game on the ground and gathers 8 touches, while Bernie is on for only 53% of the time and grabs 6. That tells me Douglas is struggling to find the footy full stop while with Bernie it's a matter of fitness/not being on the ground.

Stats must lie?

To summarise

Bernie averages 9.8 disposals to 12 when they play in the same side. Bernie has less marks, less hit outs, more tackles and less goals

Now in an overall sense Richie wins EVERY stat above based on 11 games to 12

I mean, is he going to spend more time on the ground as he plays more games?

They have both played basically the same amount of games...11 to 12 so the game time structure means their roles are different and that the coaches see them as different

1 a long term prospect and the other a '' burst'' player, it would surprise me then to see BV spend more than 70% on the ground

Stevens might need some time back at the SANFL. Was good at the start of the year but looks like a player playing without confidence at the mo.

However might be saved by the lack of a replacement at the moment with Kenny probably not fit enough and without the required form.

Now players are coming back, we can rest Burton (who mentioned he would be having a rest once we got some depth).

Stiffy & Reilly as 1st choice players should come straight in. Porps via Westies (put pressure on Douglas).

IMO, our structure is better with Bock at CHB, so Kenny in for Stevens.

INS: McGregor, Reilly, Johncock
OUT: Stevens, Burton (inj), Vince

F: Welsh, McGregor, Edwards
HF: Johncock, Perrie, Douglas
C: Reilly, Goodwin, Knights
HB: van Berlo, Bock, McLeod
B: Bassett, Rutten, Torney
R: Hudson, Shirley, Thompson
I: Griffin, Doughty, Mattner, Jericho

Thats also the way I'd go.

Burton has to be rested, no question there. Has toiled manfully under duress, but is really struggling.

Is Stiffy fit? If not, Vince stays in.

Oh yes and Bocky back to CHB

What exactly has Vince done to deserve being retained?

Not a whole lot, but he's in the side at present and if there isn't a replacement, he stays in.

Radar replaces Burton and Kenny replaces Stevens (hopefully)

If Johncock doesn't come up, then Vince stays in the side.

Who would you replace him with Drummond? Pfeiffer?
Yes, either he or Campbell, or even Massie given his return on the weekend.

What exactly has Vince been offering this team? Not a whole lot. He's been struggling over the past month and it's time for someone else to be given a go. Vince is extremely lucky he was fit when there was no one else available. Now that there is, it’s time for him to be dropped.
