In: Darcy, Frederick, Erasmus
Out:O’Driscoll, Sturt, Fyfe
O’Driscoll has been in poor form this year.
Sturt ranks behind Banfield.
Fyfe too slow, skills poor. Could only play as super sub.
Hanging by a thread: Banfield, Ryan, Tracey, Henry.

3 goals in two games vs Switta, Schulz, Banfield’s combined total of 0. They deserve to be under the pump.
Banfield rightly deserves to be under the pump, and like I said the banfield v sturt discussion has merit given both of their recent performances.

But using purely goals under these circumstances are a little misleading don't you think? For example everyone is taking Swittas and Shultz games against Richmond over Sturts 1 goal 7 disposal game...

Schultz is a consistent goal scorer for us normally, even if it has dropped off for us a little the last few games, which has coincided with him playing higher up the ground.

Switta has never scored many goals, but everything else he offers is elite, again he hasn't been great lately.

You don't just drop CLEARLY better players because of these circumstances, especially for a guy like Sturt atm.

Sturt should not be competing with guys like Schultz. People talk in smalls and talls as if there is no in between. There should be a spot for at least one medium forward type for team balance. Preferably more (such as Collingwood who play 3-5 players that rotate through as medium sized forwards). Unfortunately our cupboard is bare with the medium forwards so all we have is Sturt v Banfield v Emmett. After the game last week it should indeed be a no brainer to favour Sturt over Banfield, but I can see both being dropped because JL doesn't seem to care about the medium forward position and loves to stack the side with smalls.

Collingwood don't play with 3 key forwards though. We play with Jackson, Amiss, Treacey.

They play with Cox and Mihocheck (who is virtually a medium). They have to play more mediums.

I somewhat agree with what you are saying, but if we have a fully fit squad I don't think any of our mediums you named make the side. They are just too far below the level of our other smalls. Especially if Fyfe plays (which is another complicated discussion lol).

No way they will drop Fyfe even if warranted.

If he is playing mid, he may occasionally win the clearances by willing it forward, but also cost us if he is expecting others to cover him. Then when he plays forward, he has been underwhelming. Was expecting him be more of a presence and taking marks, even though we know his goal kicking is poor

Yeh, don't need three talls if you moving the ball quick into the 50. Becomes problematic with slow movement, poor delivery inside 50 on top of the forwards heads

Yes they do.

They play 3 out of Cox, Mihocek, Johnson and McStay.

Disagree on Collingwood tall setup and need to play more mediums. Mihocek is the same size as Treacy and they want to play 2 x KPF, 2 x ruck options just like our best patch of form. The ones below with Johnson (extreme leap) and Kreuger for injury/mobility cover. Also remember that Jackson has cameos in the midfield and JL is hesitant to actually play all 3 x KPFs at the same time in the forward line (something best seen attending live where most centre bounces are 2 x talls and 4 x smalls).

Pies preferred 22:
McStay-Mihocek-Cox-Cameron
Lipinski-McReery-WHE
Hill-Elliot

Compared with what JL has preferred:
Amiss-Treacy-Darcy-Jackson
Banfield
Freddy-Switta-Schultz-Walters

Our smalls are definitely better players than our mediums, which is a problem and leads to the team we actually select. Sturt has not done much, but with no better alternatives and finals a fantasy, I would persist and see if he can build. Would like to play another one as well, but Erasmus, Banfield and Fyfe lack the speed/agility/skill that you want from medium forwards and Emmett seems a long way back. Can Kuek play as a "tall medium"?

I really want to draft Tholstrup and Collard this year. Have called to draft Martin in the MSD (who has turned into a gun wing, which obviously would have been great), Eddie Ford, Harry Cole, Jaiden Magor with late picks when all were available. Some/all of these types bound to be busts (except Martin) and wouldn't help us much now, but same can be said for the likes of Wagner, Worner, Stanley, Reidy, Knobel (happy to have drafted some of them, but not all of them).

Freddy is only 3cm shorter than mcreery and WHE

Probably should be included in the medium range

The Pies will quite often play Hill, Elliott, Ginnivan in the same side, plus both Daikos and De Goey spend time forward. So they use even more smalls than us. All you've really highlighted is that they've got better quality than us, which we all knew. It's a neglected area of the ground for us, and I agree that we need to be finding quality small and medium forwards in this off season.
