You are saying, without evidence, that we lose momentum when Lobb goes in the ruck, and seem to be suggesting that a ruck is going to be an alternative to his role as a forward/ruck.

Lobb returning 18 disposals and 8 score involvements in the game, primarily in his forward work. Meek has game/career high 13 disposals and 0 goal assists.

Lobb and Meek aren’t competing for the same role.
His lack of effort annoys me.

At the center square and throw ins he barely competes. So many half hearted tackles as well.

Watch him next game, and see what he actually does

Centre square definitely needs a contest, but not a lot more. Sides have made do without dominating bounce downs and even with losing clearances. But no team would recruit Lobb to be the #1 ruck.

In the end it all gets back to drafting and trading. When asked what was our priority for the trade and draft last year, JLo identified a forward ruck. Nek minnit, nada.
Lobb is cruising because he doesn't feel any heat on him for his position. Meek has his limitations but Lobb can't keep on being uncompetitive in the ruck any more, Meek had 30 and 2 against Souths and showed he can compete at AFL level. Each game Lobb underperforms in the firsts and Meek does well in the WAFL is in Meek's favour

Why can’t we have Sturt AND Treacy? Crowden did not a lot. Even Walters might miss with that eye issue.

Because they won't touch the ball. OK, maybe, maybe not. But if they have bad games - and you'd have to say it's likely - then that's 2 passengers that we need to make up for.

The only thing that Treacy seems to bring to the table is aggression at the ball. Now that's pretty important against West Coast - having McGovern and Barrass feeling like they're about to get a knee sent through their ribcage won't be a bad thing at all. But I think he needs to bring more than that to be worth a spot.

What I am saying is I want to see 100% commitment to win, and I don't see it.
I get it, I just don’t think Lobb is in the team to win ruck contests for the 10 minutes he is in there, and don’t think that is the best way to use a forward/ruck. If that was our focus Meek may well be a better option. The real purpose is to give Darcy a spell but to have a player who adds to our forward structure for the remainder of the game.

I would be interested to see how the team performs when Lobb is in the ruck compared to the opposition, because there needs to be a larger strategy adjustment when that happens (as apuchar suggests).

i also don’t trust observations of what a player looks like (along with nodgey and the eye test). Cox always looks pretty laconic and Mundy looks weak and slow (according to Memories). A better measure of what a player is doing is the coach, and it looks to me like Lobb is doing pretty much what is being asked of him, and is a critical part of our 22. And that’s supported by the stats.

Ignoring the ruck his leads and his tackles are the same.

Plus he is not getting on the scoreboard.

Give Longmuir a good alternative and I think Lobb would be dropped

Again, 18 possessions (19 is his career high) and 8 score involvements tells me he is easily performing at an acceptable level. The other thing is that we have had a dysfunctional forward line, and Lobb back has been critical in turning that around.

It used to be Tabs doesn't get the ball kicked to him because they'd always kick it to Pav.

Now it is Treacy doesn't get the ball kicked to him because they always kick it to Tabs.

It probably doesn't matter whether you believe these statements or not or somewhere in between... The Freo coaches backed in Tabs even when he wasn't producing much. He went back to WAFL at times to work on things, and so will Treacy. It might be next week, it might be in a few weeks. We need to pump games into both Treacy and Sturt imo - but within reason. I don't mind whether they are in or out, so long as they aren't switching between the two levels on a weekly basis.

I’d be very very surprised if we see McGovern for a few weeks. He hurt his groin and could barely walk.

Allen would slaughter Watson. I think Hughes has been ok on Darling in the past and Ryan would be a better option for Allen imo.
Hopefully either Cox is ok (which I think he will be) or Kennedy doesn’t get up.
Id go Logue to Kennedy. Hughes to Darling and Cox to Allen. That way Cox can go for his marks more and intercept. If Cox doesn't get up then Chapman goes to Allen.

We play so much better when Ryan doesn’t have to play KPD. He does it well, but we get more value from him when he has a bit more freedom.

I want Treacy to play because I want him to run straight through McGovern who will probably make a miraculous recovery like he always does

The only miracle you would be getting is the miracle of Jonah*

*(ie. we won't see Treacy till Round 12 because he will be suspended for three day games and three night games that follow)).
