thommo has things that will improve with rest but he could also use some nerve therapy on the left knee.

Out: Thommo, tippets guernsey
In: Kerridge, Modra's guernsey

Give this fella another extended run up forward, just to make sure he isnt secretly a genius up there

I don't understand why people are so against Otten. He's had a good season and has now played well at both ends of the ground. He's part of our future, not some stopgap measure until we find something better.

As for Jenkins, I'm as frustrated as anyone at his kicking issues, but I'm not sure what good dropping him will do, unless we intend to keep him out indefinitely until his kicking improves. I agree with Carl on this one - 200cm athletic speedy forwards who can mark and kick goals become the best players in the league. It shouldn't be an expectation. What he does do well makes him valuable to the side already even despite his poor kicking. And he strikes me very much as a confidence player. Leave him there.

That doesn't mean LJ can't come in. I'd like to see him come in. Otten can move down back again against Freo. Thompson goes out for a rest, Grigg starts on the field, one of Mackay or Porplyzia as the sub.

I think people like making changes for the sake of making changes. I've been satisfied with Jenkins' and Otten's performances this season.

9:40 into the video, Sando basically brushed aside the BF board main gripe this year; not selecting for 2014 and beyond considering our position on the ladder.

I didn't see any outcry to this statement, or did I just miss it?

This from Sando on the club website today:

“There’s been some advice, ‘put your young kids in and give them some exposure for the rest of the season and build for 2014’, but a footy season goes for 23 weeks,” he said.
“We’ll play this season out right until the final siren of the final game. We’ll keep picking a side that we think is going to win each week, whether that’s an 18-year-old or a 30-year-old.”

Otten has been decent this year, do you seem him as a forward or defender?
I think you have to understand that his move forward v cats was not a case of him being switched to a fwd per se, he was playing a role as a defensive forward. So don't judge him as a forward only, judge him on his role. Did Taylor influence the game as he usually does? I think Otten wins that one. In addition you want a player in this role to be a threat. He kicked 2 goals - had 15 poss. Tick.

As a comparison look at a Petrenko. If the match up is right he is capable of being a competent defensive fwd IMO.

The sooner JJ realises he is a left footer not a right footer the better off he will be

Genius, or absolute clutz? :p not sure if youve seen some of his set shots for goal while hes been up forward this year but they are woeful! I think ive seen him kick more out on the fulls than actual goals from set shots lol. He could be a very handy swingman for us as he can be damaging at both ends of the ground, its just that he needs to get his goal kicking in order if im to have any confidence in his ability to put scoreboard pressure on when up forward.

WTF are people talking about re dropping Jenkins?

18 poss , 6 marks and an inspirational goal.

GTFO

Agreed, I think Jenkins is being judged rather harshly on here, especially of late. Currently playing as our only true key forward whilst also assisting Jacobs with the ruckwork. He's providing a target and generally competing well for the footy. He's not Kurt Tippett or Taylor Walker, yet, but he's working hard and is gaining valuable experience learning the game.

I dont think people are quite understand what someone of us are getting at with this point in dropping Jenkins. Like i said, ive been one of Jenkins biggest fans this year and still maintain despite criticism that he is a good kick for goal, he just badly needs to get back to basics with his kicking technique. The guy has played under 30 games and 18 months ago was on a rookie list at essendon. In a seriously depleted forward line, he has been our number 1 forward and managed 50+ shots at goal this season, which is pretty much 3 shots on goal a game and is good enough for me considering our team and form this year.

However, with the club looking to its younger players and Lewis Johnston dominating in the reserves, we seriously need to give him an extended run in the team and see if he is still worthy of a spot. At the moment he seems too good for the SANFL, so we have to take a look as to what he can do at AFL level over the course of 4-6 games. LJ was pick 12, and Lynch was pick 13 in the same draft, and look at lynchy now! The opportunity is there so why not take it. From his flashes of brilliance, i think the coaches and most supporters know what Jenkins will be capable of in a full strength forward line.

Another dimension to this is our ruck problem. We all know that JJ isnt the best ruckmen, however i definitely think there is some room for improvement there. If Crows can get LJ up and running and looking like he could be damaging at AFL, it could provide JJ with the opportunity to do some serious work on his rucking and around the ground ability over the pre season. The bloke is quick and extremely agile for a 200cm man. If he improves on this centre circle work, it pretty much gives the crows a great utility player that can push hard forward to join LJ and Tex up forward (for example) and or push back, provide an extra tall in defense when the ball goes in long, as well as a tall marking target to kick long to when the ball is stuck in our back pocket. One thing I really like about jenkins is he seems to have raw potential in a lot of the things he does, and so he could be a great weapon for us. thats just my opinion so make what you will of it :D

But anyways, back to this week. The reason why we say to rest JJ this week is because he is honestly looking a little down on confidence atm in addition to Ross Lyons game style of playing 17 defenders, 0 midfielders and 1 forward. Like someone else mentioned, freo like to flood the backline, so playing more talls may not exactly work. Therefore, giving Jenkins just this week off to match freo's game style and playing LJ looks like quite a good option. JJ could probably come straight back in for the showdown, and with Port now missing Jonas for 3, we could seriously stretch their defense there. Im not too fussed if we make finals or not, not concerned by that at all. So i wont regret this move if LJ comes in and kicks 2 behinds from 4 disposals. The club needs to make a serious decision on what to do with LJ and the only way we can do that properly is by chucking him out there and seeing what he can bring to the table.

What I'd do
In: McKernan or Johnston (McKernan if Sandilands is playing, Johnston if he isn't), Kerridge
Out: Thompson, Mackay

Have to think similar to this.
Maybe even an Andy Otten out letting both Smack and LJ play.

Only because LJ offers much more as a forward then Otten does. Ottens been good but he isnt a better option forward then LJ

Jenkins needs to change back to his old jumper. That number 4 is cursed.

He was a great kick last year. This year he is resembling the former number 4 when taking a set shot.
