Looks like Grigg squeezed out for structural reasons ie playing 2 x rucks. I assume Sandi playing hence beefing up the ruck stocks .

Not that I think it's necessarily right but I can see the reasoning. I thought our balance last week was pretty good.

The issue of under performing senior players who could have made way instead if Sando had an ounce of balls - remains

I've been super impressed with what I've seen of Hartigan. I reckon there's a good chance we've solved our CHB worries. I hope he has a big game.

Grigg is bloody stiff. Played well, and generally looked up to speed. I wouldn't have dropped Tambling ahead of him, but I'm one of the few who still thinks Tambling has something to offer. Yeah he shanks a couple of kicks a game and is terrible in the air, but he actually looks to attack most of the time, and plays with intensity. For that, I consider him an upgrade over some of the other HBF options we've had lately.

Thommo hasn't looked right for ages. He's who shouldn't be getting a game ahead of Grigg right now (and probably Mackay too, though he was a bit better for the 2nd half last week.) I know we're down on midfield experience with Danger out, but if Thommo goes off with soreness again after struggling to run and hit a friendly target from the very first bounce, I'll be bloody livid. GIVE HIM A REST!

Smack right back in is an interesting choice. I don't rate LJ much at all - far less than I do McKernan (who I'm not exactly the world's biggest fan of) but I reckon we should have tried him out this week. He's in hot form, Freo's tall stocks are thin, and I wouldn't mind seeing some SANFL form from Smack after 2 weeks without playing. Hard to see us playing him at all this year, at this point. I'm not too fussed, as I really think for all his strengths, his complete lack of intensity is a critical weakness, but I still think we should give the guy a few games on the trot to see whether he can pull his finger out. He wouldn't be the first guy to jump up a level nobody thought he was capable of when given a chance to.

Was Grigg a travelling emergency? One would think if he did make the trip I wouldn't bet against him being a late in for Thommo. Thommo just doesn't look right at the moment, our season's shot, what's the point of dragging it out, rest him and get him right.

Managed to scrounge up a couple of tickets today for the missus and I, so will be there in full voice in my Danger guernesy, any other fellow Perthites going?

No you are wrong Lyons has well and truly earnt his spot over a much longer period by dominating SANFL whilst Grigg was in reserves thanks to Bassett and shown his class and ball getting ability is up to standard in AFL and will grow.
Really pleased Hartigan gets his go this week and as posted previously down at Panther land they are very impressed with him in all aspects of game and attitude . Has great pace for a tall defender which should be very beneficial in our team defence which lacks speed .

Grigg unlucky but he'll be back. Why would Tambling drop out after last week ? Yes I get no one rates him and thats fine but he was good last week. Thommo should be the one going out.

Good luck to Hartigan on the first game

Can understand Tambo over Grigg at this stage. We know what Grigg will give us but we have to be sure Tambling is worth delisting at seasons end, plus it is at Subi so his extra pace may be worthwhile. Can see Grigg getting more games before seasons end and maybe this match, I think Thompson will struggle to come up.

Another player to make his debut this week. Shit club, shit selectors, more safe shit.
Yep bringing in a key position to replace an injured key position player is crazy brave. But you know what will happen next week don't you? Rutten in, Hartigan out.
And do you really call Grigg's game a debut? Starts as sub and only had decent game time due to injury. 12 possessions in a qtr and a half and is dropped. That's just dumb.

Stiff that @Mitch_Grigg38 misses out this week. Great debut & will be good player for us. Victim of team balance, 2 ruck

Not much to complain about there.

Need two Rucks against Freo/Sandilands. Not too many other players in the "out" position after last week. Basically "last in, last out".

However, if Thommo plays and struggles on the big ground with his groins the selection of him ahead of Grigg or even Kerridge is questionable.

I'd agree with this 90% of the time but Tambling was decent last week.
Then there's the fact that he is probably playing for his AFL career (assuming his card hasn't already been marked - as I thought it had). Grigg will be around for years to come. Tambling is being given a last chance to save his career, having done well when given the opportunity last week.

I suspect that's the club's thinking..

Personally, I would have gone with Grigg.
