Changes v Port Power est 1997

Sloane doesn't have to be an inside mid. He'd be very handy rotating through the back flank and wing rotations. Much harder to tag out of the game in those roles as well. Will be interesting to see whether there's any imagination from the coaches.
With guys like CEY and Greenwood doing well on the inside, I'd prefer this, Sloan has been very damaging in an outside role before

Changed my mind, as I think we need to give the Rat a much needed rocket now we have players returning.

In: Walker, Sloane, Knight
Out: Fogarty, Milera (inj), Atkins

B: Brown, Talia, Doedee
HB: Douglas, Otten, Laird
C: Seedsman, Mrouch, Sloane
HF: Lynch, Walker, Knight
F: Betts, Jenkins, McGovern
R: Jacobs, CEY, Gibbs
I: Kelly, Greenwood, Mackay, Gallucci

Particularly a good way of managing Sloane when he is coming back from injury.

Make him the icing not the cake for a while.

Let the likes of CEY do the heavy lifting whilst Sloane comes up to full fitness.

Agree, Sloane at his peak, the previous 3 years, averages 23-25 touches per game. CEY is 22 and improving. He's getting the brute force work done in the contest, we really lose very little. But we could gain heaps by using Sloane's gut running and overhead ability more on the outside.

I know he’ll be dropped. But I’d love Fogarty to play in the Showdown just because he’ll hand someone their ass within 5mins. You can just tell.

Personally I would love for Fog to play simply because if he gets a game in the finals due to an injury, at least he gets a H&A game thats as close to finals like that he will ever get.

As long as Tex is 100% injury free, he should obviously play. IF there is any doubt, Fog should stay.

Having just watched the replay I really can't see CEY being dropped.

I don't like the structure with him, Greenwood, MCrouch in the side but all three are playing too well to drop one for Sloaney.

I am glad it is not my decision who to omit for Sloaney.

Rat was a bit quiet yesterday however his previous 3 weeks was pretty good IMO

I can’t see Rat being dropped to be honest

Playing him in the wing would mean he’d be running more. If you want to manage him we’d play him as a small forward.

At half time 'Sodas' said that Sloane trained fully yesterday (Saturday), covered 11km and said that in hindsight that he was probably right to go last night. Should be cherry ripe for the Showdown.

Should’ve played him last night.. now he’s going in next week without playing in a month..

CEY has been better than Greenwood in all games we have one this year and was tonight as he was against Sydney and Richmond.
Greenwood was better against Carlton, and unlike CEY he's getting better each game as he finally gets himself match fit.

Nope. Greenwood and M.Crouch better than CEY. If you watch the game, these two are superior by a fair way. End discussion.
Crouch ordinarily is better then CEY easily but last night absolutely not, turned the ball over worse and had so many nothing possessions or poor disposals that sold team mates into trouble. I was shocked watching as he's usually so bloody reliable. Not an indictment on him, bit of rust after time out so no big deal. On the flipside CEY was very strong last night and extremely clean despite being in heavy traffic a lot, probably the best I've seen him play as he just seemed to look more comfortable. Will be extremely unlucky to get dropped after that though it may need to happen, if it does I'll feel a bit sorry for him as he's just got a nice string of games in and shown some good signs.

To be honest I go back and forth on Greenwood & CEY they're so different. I feel like Greenwood hacks the ball out of clearances far too much where as CEY works through traffic infinitely better. Then there's Greenwood who can take good contested marks and some of them pick ups on the move are insanely good. They're about on par overall for me at the moment though long term I think Greenwood has the higher ceiling so I guess if you have to select one you probably are going to go with him.

I would leave Tex for another week personally as I dont think its as slight as the club is saying. Get the big fella 110% right.

Sloane is good to go as is Knight.

So Fig stays in.
Milera for Sloane would be the best move, having him or Gibbs down HBF.
Knight in for Gooch

The Weagles tore them apart yesterday. What was the difference in contested possessions at half time? It was at least 40+.
Port has lost the contested possession stat in every game this season apart from Freo in Round 1.

40+ isn't just "losing the contested possession stat". To all intents and purposes, they barely even turned up to most of the stoppages in the first half.

Sure to be blamed on rocky and pickled pepper pig not being in the team.

Lock them in for next week. Pooer have been so unlucky with injuries this year:rolleyes:

Sloane was very good on the outer wing in his younger days. Port probably will play ebert on him

good luck if they don't

-Knight for Gallucci - both hard running players, Knight a bit more consistent
-Tex for Fogarty - Like-for-like players. Fogarty still has a lot of development to do before he really is AFL ready.
-Could probably leave the Gooch in if Milera is injured.

Thought Kelly was quite bad at times last night. Was good at others, can see he is well drilled in getting the ball calmly out of defense, and that he has really developed his core strength to change direction and run around players. Feel like if we get Hartigan back, that a hard-runner might be better in this role, i.e Gibson. We need more hard-runners creating options and spreading so we don't keep getting hemmed in and forced to kick down the line to a contest. It's how teams are beating us at the moment.

And that was with Shuey out

Tex and Sloane in
Fog and Milera out

I dont see the need for any more changes than that. Our team balance will be fine. Mackay will go to Milera's role. Rather than assume our team balance will be off with one extra inside mid, I would like to actually see it. Finals footy is about contested footy and I think we will be a better team for having an extra contested ball winner. Sloane and Gibbs are great on the outside. Let CEY and Greenwood bash the opposition with crunching tackles all day long and then when our A-graders rotate in they can do their thing. We know that Sloane is going to get tagged the minute we start relying on him as our main inside mid. If he becomes a rotation, it will be pointless for the opposition to focus on him anymore.
