Roos has alluded to the fact that Goodes and Barry might be scratched at late notice, so don't be surprised to find Malceski and Brabazon back in.

I think it will more likely be Brabazon and Ablett back in. I reckon they want Malceski to have a run in the magoos (if he even shows up!)

Have to say Mathews has probably been the most undervalued - and unjustly over-criticised player in all my years following the Swans. And that is saying something, considering the quality of his opposition in the scapegoats stakes over the last decade.

I have no doubt we could have found him a couple more games if our season had come to nothing. But sitting so precariously in the 4th spot, battling injuries, form, and one of the toughest runs into the finals in recent memory sentiment just has no role.

I know how you feel, SS. Footy can be brutal sometimes. I've had a few of my favourite players go through similar trials. Crouch is one of my favourite players in recent years. And watching the young Swans this year, I found myself wondering if it wasn't better for him to just retire. A big shift in my thinking. And I am reminded how if Maxfield hadn't re-injured himself in the reserves going into that GF in 2005, a very tough selection decision was going to have to be made about him. Some might flame me for that comment. But Maxfield missing that game could well have been a better result for the team, irregardless of the amazing job he had done for us as Captain.

You just got the feeling that long bomb from 50m was Benny's true Swansong.

Agree with the above, great club man and nice guy.

If it is his last game, he deserves to be remembered as a bloke who gave his all for the Swans, and did whatever job he was asked to do week in week out. Most of the time his role was not glamorous be he stuck to it none the less.

Most blokes starting their career would only dream of playing 198 games

I would rather it if Goodes got a extra week off. I find it hard to believe that Goodes would only take 2 weeks to recover from the injury which made him completely useless on the field.

Roos said Goodes would play even if not 100%. All I can say is that is a stupid coaching decision and one which will prolong the injury even more.

lmao. Yes, it's one of those injuries that isn't going to get any worse from playing a game of footy.

In fact, you may find that once opponents see parts of his scrotum falling off that he may find it somewhat easier to evade them.
